Bio

Hello, my name is Sammie Sabra. One of my biggest passions in my life is volleyball. I have been playing the sport since I was 10 years old. Volleyball has not only been just a sport to be but it has become a teacher in my life and has truly shaped me into the strong young women I have become. It has taught me discipline and the importance of organization. Throughout my high school career I have been able to keep a 4.3 GPA and take honor classes while still having a workouts, practices and tournaments. At a very young age I had to learn how to become mentally tough and strong when things were getting hard. During a volleyball game you may have a million things go wrong and you will make mistakes but the most important aspect of the game is how you respond to these setbacks and unfortunate events. I had to learn to not discouraged and keep moving forward. I learned to be a leader and bring my teammates up and make them believe in themselves and the people around them. My whole life I was told I could never play Division 1 volleyball as a 5'8 outside hitter. My will to succeed and my work ethic has allowed me to achieve my lifelong dream. I am so happy to start the next chapter of my life playing Division 1 volleyball at Niagara University. My life goal is to play in the Olympics and have my own business for workout clothes and accessories. I also want to start a non profit volleyball organization for young athletes who can't afford to play club volleyball. My main goal is to really uplift young athletes and help them mentally and physically.

    Grow The Game Volleyball Scholarship
My all time favorite moment on the court was when I was a sophomore in high school and we were playing the last team in order to win league. We had lost the first two sets and we were down three points. I remember I saw a few of our fans leave because they thought we were going to lose the game. That's when my coach called a timeout and I pulled my team in a close huddle. I told them that we are not going to lose this game and we all need to do our roles on defense and offense. After that timeout, when we came back and picked up our energy and beat the team in the last three sets and won league champs in 2018. I am extremely passionate about volleyball because it has taught me to never give up and never be satisfied with where you are at. My whole career I was told I was too short to be an outside hitter for a Divison 1 college. I had a choice to either believe those people who doubted me or work my butt off to be the best volleyball player I can possibly be. I wanted to prove all those people wrong who told me that I could never make it. I started lifting weights when I was in the 7th grade and went to one on ones every week to develop my skills and learn the fundamentals. I started playing club volleyball when I was 13 years old. In the beginning of my club years, I was always known as the quiet shy girl who rarely talked to anyone. As I continued to play throughout my club years I developed my leadership skills. I began to take the leader role on my team and became the "go to girl" when we were struggling. One of the most important things to me both on and off the court was keeping my team together and not allowing us to get down. I always tried to bring my team up through my energy and encouraging my teammates to brush off the mistakes. By the time I entered high school, I was the starting Outside Hitter on varsity and won numerous awards such as the Daily Breeze Athlete of the Week twice, Camino Real League Player of the Year and All CIF. I am currently a senior in high school and I have recently committed to play Divison 1 volleyball at Niagara University as a 5'8 outside hitter. As I further my academic and volleyball career, I will continue to have the mindset of always working hard and to never give up on my dreams. Volleyball has truly helped me grow as a person and taught me many important lessons that I will carry throughout my life. One of my future dreams is to play beach volleyball in the Olympics and start my own business for sports gear and fashion. I will forever be grateful to have been given the opportunities to play and I hope to inspire young athletes to never give up on there dreams and with hard work and dedication anything is possible.
