I am Samira Shabib from Palestine 53 years old; I have 4 boys and one daughter; I am working at New Highland Elementary School In Hardin County. I live with my family in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. We came to the United States of America in 2007 from Jordan. I like sports, especially swimming.
It is a challenge for me to learn how to write in English since it’s a foreign language for me, furthermore, I do need to learn it to complete my degree too. I had some difficulties understanding the punctuation rules, the parts of the paragraph, and I struggled a lot in organizing my ideas too. I already finished my ENG 90, but I believe I need to work more on my writing skills.
Since I have worked as a teacher for more than 20 years here and overseas, I have to improve my experience and become a certified teacher instead of a classified teacher. I need to finish an education program at WKU, this is my challenge now.
For My whole life, my dream is to be a good idol for my kids, students, and the community. I would love to give my experience as a math teacher to the students who face difficulties in understanding math. My dream in 10 years is to have my own place to give private math classes. Also, I would love to travel and visit different countries with my family.

I have many goals as a math teacher in my mind. I am always thinking about how I have managed to achieve my goals in the past, and how I can build on them to move forward for future challenges. I am focusing on my own personal approach to classroom management and figuring out what makes my math teaching unique and how I want to move forward in my career to support education. Vanderbilt University explains, “A teaching (philosophy) statement is a purposeful and reflective essay about the author’s teaching beliefs and practices”. The teaching philosophy statement includes not only the teacher's own beliefs about the teaching and learning process but also concrete examples of how the teacher applies those beliefs in the classroom. Student-centered philosophy is an important philosophy that teaches that instructors should be focused on meeting the student's needs. Teachers can help and teach students in the classroom, ensuring higher student achievement. These philosophies emphasize the individuality of students and help them approach their potential and to have successful academic years. Students and teachers usually decide what to learn and how best to achieve it.
When focusing on a student-centered philosophy, the school's system and educators can make changes, provide more choices, and create an effective and life-changing environment for students.
My philosophy, in terms of being a math teacher, depends on my humble experience here in the USA as well as overseas, for a total of thirty years.
Firstly, all students have something special that they can bring to their education. I plan to help the students to develop that environment by embracing their differences, expressing themselves, and accepting themselves as they are. Each classroom has a different community than another that I have taught so far. That said, my role as a math teacher will be to assist each student to develop their own learning style. I will present curriculums that will incorporate each learning style, and incorporate hands-on learning activities, math projects, and individual and group work that approach the engagement for students and activate students learning.
Secondly, The environment in which the students must have an education must be a place where the students can develop their emotions, social life, and mentality. It is my goal to create an environment where students can meet their full potential. I will work to provide an educational environment so the students can share their ideas and take risks. I believe that there are elements that are conducive to learning. The math teacher's role is to act as a guide for the students during the class instructions, also the students must have access to hands-on math activities especially when they have world problems, the students should have many choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. Furthermore, the students need to practice skills in an educational environment, and the part I am focusing on is incorporating technology tools in my instruction plan as well.
As a conclusion, teaching is arguably more challenging now than ever for a number of reasons, including student behavior, rapidly changing technology, and poor pay. Some of the qualities of a good teacher are communication skills, listening, cooperation, and empathy. Other characteristics of effective teaching include an engaging presence in the classroom, the value of authentic learning, the sharing of best practices, and a lifelong love of learning.

Working as an elementary school teacher here in Kentucky is my ideal job. As a full-time teacher I would help students struggling with math, stay after school for kids that are either unable to go home right away or just needing some extra help with homework, and grow as a teacher. The pay would be fit for me and my kids since my husband also has a job to cover our everyday and monthly expenses. Some rewards included with this job are being a part of the students growth, a better health insurance, and a better grasp on American education. Each quality that I explained would match my needs and desires since I taught for another educational system and would need to practice teaching the education system in Kentucky to teach all my students with as much knowledge on both systems.
