Walking In Authority International Ministry Scholarship
What inspires me to get involved in my community is the profound understanding that, as a single mother, I share similar challenges with many families around me. I’ve experienced firsthand the hurdles that come with balancing work, education, and family life, and this empathy drives my commitment to making a difference. I believe that community is a powerful support system, and by fostering connection and providing resources, we can uplift one another and create a more resilient environment for everyone.
Currently, I work full-time at a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing children from entering the foster care system. Our mission is to support families in crisis through a holistic approach that includes building a caring community, offering mentorship, and providing essential resources. We realize that many families struggle with crises stemming from job loss, which can lead to a cycle of negative outcomes. This role has been both fulfilling and enlightening, as I’ve witnessed the direct impact of our work on families in need.
One of the most significant initiatives I’ve been involved in is the organization of community job fairs across Florida and the United States. We identified job loss as a critical factor that often leads families into crises, so we set out to create a solution that not only addresses the issue but also restores dignity to those affected. By partnering with local churches, businesses and organizations, we bring together job seekers and employers in a supportive, welcoming environment. These events go beyond just job placement; they also foster hope and encourage individuals to envision a brighter future for themselves and their families.
In addition to organizing job fairs, I actively engage in mentorship programs. I believe that guidance and support can profoundly influence someone’s life trajectory. By mentoring individuals, especially young parents, I aim to empower them with the skills and confidence needed to navigate their challenges. I share my own experiences, providing practical advice and emotional support, which has created strong, trusting relationships within the community.
Moreover, I advocate for community resources that address broader issues such as mental health, education, and financial literacy. I’ve collaborated with local organizations to provide workshops that equip families with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive. Through these efforts, I strive to create a culture of resilience and empowerment, ensuring that families have access to the support they need.
In summary, my inspiration to get involved in my community stems from my personal experiences as a single mother and my desire to create positive change. Through my work at the nonprofit, organizing job fairs, and mentoring others, I am dedicated to nurturing a supportive environment that empowers families to overcome challenges and build a better future. Together, we can create a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Returning to college after more than 20 years has been both exciting and a bit
overwhelming, but I’m ready to take on the challenge. As a student at Valencia College, I’m focused on growing both personally and professionally. My goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in business organization and leadership, which will give me the tools to continue building on the success I’ve already experienced as a business owner. I’m
eager to apply what I learn in the classroom to my real-world experiences.
As a single mother of four—one in college and two more about to start in the next two years—balancing family, work, and education is a significant challenge. I currently work full-time at a nonprofit dedicated to keeping kids out of foster care. We achieve this through various means, including building a caring community, offering mentorship, and providing essential resources. We’ve identified that many families face crises due to job loss, which prompted us to organize community job fairs across Florida and the U.S. These events not only help individuals find employment but also aim to restore dignity and instill hope during difficult times. Through this work, I’m able to give back to the community by helping others gain financial independence and security, all while managing the responsibilities of motherhood. Despite these challenges, I remain dedicated to pursuing my academic goals and providing a strong example of perseverance and determination for my children.
Throughout my career, I have successfully supported and built a small business,
grounded in my strong understanding of customer service and meeting the unique
needs of my clients. This entrepreneurial journey has not only taught me the value of
hard work but also fueled my passion for helping others find practical solutions to their
problems. I aspire to deepen my expertise in business management and, in the future,
mentor other women entrepreneurs—particularly those who, like me, are starting over
later in life.
A scholarship would significantly ease the financial burden of balancing education,
work, and family life. Covering tuition and other educational expenses would allow me
to focus on excelling academically, while continuing to make a positive impact through
my work in the community. With your support, I can dedicate more time to growing my
knowledge and preparing to further help others—whether through mentoring women in
business or expanding the reach of the nonprofit work I am involved in.
Thank you for considering my application and for providing this opportunity to students like me who are determined to achieve their academic and career goals.
