Bio

I am Samantha J. Martin, a writer, researcher, and first-year Ph.D. student in the Political Science program at Syracuse University. Born and raised in Central Pennsylvania, I attended public school before making my way to Gettysburg College, a small liberal arts college with a rich tradition of interdisciplinary study, in Fall 2020. During my time at Gettysburg, I spent a semester in Washington, D.C., and interned with the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC), two organizations that helped to foster my passion for gender studies in politics and championed research for the public good. I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Gettysburg in Spring 2024, completing majors in Political Science, Public Policy, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, as well as a minor in Peace and Justice Studies, during my time there. I primarily study the intersections of gender, public opinion, and voting behavior in American politics, with a particular focus on ideologies and organization amongst socially conservative women. My research pulls from history, sociology, and public policy analysis, as well as political science theories and methods, to approach these topics from a well-rounded, interdisciplinary standpoint.
