Bio

Hi! Welcome to my Bold profile. My name is Salome Won, and I am a third-year student at the University of Georgia! I am a dedicated and passionate Biology major with a Spanish minor, aspiring to become a dentist. My academic journey is fueled by a deep curiosity for life science and a commitment to improving the well-being of my community. Outside the classroom, I actively engage in various extracurricular activities, where I cultivate leadership and service-oriented skills. My involvement with organizations like Saving Smiles as part of the executive board has helped me grow as an effective communicator, as the role of a secretary necessitates communication with other executive members as well as the members of the club. I also regularly volunteer at an organization called Extra Special People (ESP), where I spend time with people with all kinds of disabilities. This experience certainly has been rewarding. I love spending time with all the participants of ESP, and it helped me grow as a person who's able to give and receive love. In addition to my academic and extracurricular pursuits, I find joy in listening to music, cooking, or attending church. These experiences shape my well-rounded perspective and drive to make a positive impact in my community and beyond.

Service is at the heart of what makes a community thrive. I have always believed in the power of helping others to create meaningful change and uplift those around me. As a pre-dental student, I am driven by a commitment to provide care and improve the quality of life for individuals in my community. My journey into servitude is rooted in my experiences, which have shaped my perspective on what it means to give selflessly and act with compassion. One of the most impactful experiences i my life has been volunteering with Extra Special People, an organization that serves people of all ages with disabilities. I've volunteered at this organization regularly for almost two years now. Through this program, I had the privilege of working directly with participants, assisting them in activities that encouraged social interaction, creativity, and confidence-building. I recall a particular event where I was paired with a man named Alex, who had autism and learning disability. He was initially withdrawn and hesitant to engage, but by patiently encouraging him and celebrating his small victories, I watched him open up and actively participate by the end of the event. This transformation reminded me of the impact that kindness and persistence can have on someone's life. My time with ESP has deepened my understanding of empathy and reinforced my belief that service is a powerful way to honor the inherent dignity of every person. My passion for serving others also extends to my faith-based community work. As a member of my church, I volunteered to take several responsibilities within the church. I volunteer as a broadcasting team, translating team, Korean school teacher, and a vice-president of the young adult group. Seeing the joy and gratitude on the faces of the saints of the church reminds me every week that even small acts of service can have a ripple effect of positivity. In addition to these experiences, I have volunteered at a dentist near my campus during college for about a year. It was a perfect experience that incorporated both my future career and my passion to help the community. During the time of my volunteer, there was a patient who started tearing up after her implant surgeries. She thanked us and told us that she's never been more confident about her smile. Witnessing the gratitude of individuals who received assistance reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in dentistry. I believe oral health is integral to overall well-being, and I am dedicated to using my skills and knowledge to serve others. This work has taught me the importance of addressing not just physical needs but also the emotional and psychological aspects fo care. My vision for the future is to integrate service into every aspect of my career and personal life. I aspire to establish a dental practice that not only delivers high-quality care but also serves as a hub for community outreach and education. By partnering with local organizations, I hope to create programs that provide preventive care and resources to populations that often go overlooked. In conclusion, service is more than an activity--it is a way of life. My experiences have shown me that through acts of kindness and dedication, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of others as well as ourselves. I am honored to carry this ethos into my future career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share how my journey of servitude has shaped me into the person I am today.
