I am Sajini Kodituwakku, and I am an undergraduate student at New York University (NYU). My studies take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding ways to bring awareness to social issues, conflicts in human rights, and social policies. Through combining an individualized study across the social sciences, with coursework in media, culture, and communication, I am working to produce various media texts that can be used to advocate and educate about social problems. Currently, my passion for community activism and social change has led me to become involved in the Petey Greene Program at NYU, where I helped host a book drive aimed at bringing educational resources to incarcerated people. I also serve as the President of the Social Justice Art Project, an organization centered on artistic advocacy. As I continue my studies, I am planning to further develop my concentration by partaking in hands-on work with community-based organizations. Most recently, I have worked as a research assistant and intern for Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City in Berlin, Germany – an opportunity I was connected to as part of the Gallatin Global Fellowship in Urban Practice at NYU.
