    Nikhil Desai Reinventing Healthcare Scholarship
As a high school student in a health sciences career program, I’ve had the opportunity to immerse myself in the hospital system by shadowing different departments. In my time in the radiology and ultrasound department, I noticed a glaring inefficiency-the time it takes to get X-ray results back is much longer than it should ever be. When a sonographer, in my experience, can read the results immediately, it seems unnecessary for the results to be sent to a radiologist who won't get the results back in 3-5 business days. This inefficiency is not just a minor inconvenience, but a significant issue that needs urgent attention. However, with a system that allows the radiologist to be on call virtually, the potential benefits are promising. The current process of obtaining X-ray results involves a sonographer capturing the images and then sending them to a radiologist for interpretation. This process introduces unnecessary delays as the radiologist may not be physically present in the hospital at all times, leading to a waiting period of 3-5 business days for the results. This delay can be detrimental to patient care, especially in cases where timely diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Allowing the radiologist to be on call virtually can significantly improve the efficiency of the entire process. With advancements in telemedicine and digital imaging, the sonographer can capture the images and instantly transmit them to the radiologist, who can then interpret the results remotely. This would significantly reduce the turnaround time for X-ray results, enabling timely patient diagnosis and treatment. Moreover, it would also alleviate the burden on the radiology department, as the radiologist can efficiently manage and interpret images from multiple locations without being physically present in each hospital or clinic. Implementing a virtual on-call system for radiologists would enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system and improve patient outcomes. Timely access to X-ray results can lead to earlier interventions, better condition management, and improved patient care. Additionally, this virtual system could expand access to specialized radiology services in underserved areas where the presence of an on-site radiologist may be limited. In conclusion, addressing the inefficiency in obtaining X-ray results is paramount for the overall effectiveness of healthcare delivery. By embracing virtual on-call services for radiologists, we can streamline the process, reduce waiting times, and ultimately enhance patient care. This initiative has the potential to revolutionize how diagnostic imaging is managed, making healthcare more efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of patients.
    1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
Taylor Swift’s 1989 album is a treasure trove of relatable emotions. If I were to create a soundtrack for my entire year, the main featured songs would be “You Are In Love” and “Wonderland.” These songs beautifully narrate the emotional rollercoaster of a whirlwind romance that has been the center of my entire year, and I'm sure many of you can relate to these feelings. In “You Are In Love,” Taylor Swift delves into the universal experience of love, a feeling that permeates every aspect of our lives. This is precisely how I’ve felt throughout the year. The sense of being in love is ever-present, a constant reminder in the world around me. As Taylor has beautifully put it, reminders of love are everywhere. It's a feeling we all share. In another of her hit songs, "You Are In Love," Taylor Swift beautifully captures the universal feeling of being in love and how it permeates every aspect of one's life. The lyrics, "And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars, and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words," perfectly encapsulate the overwhelming and indescribable nature of love, which I have experienced throughout the year. The song's dreamy and romantic melodies further enhance the emotional journey of being in love. Moving on to "Wonderland," the song speaks to finding solace and happiness amid chaos and difficulties, as Taylor sings, "Flashing lights and we took a wrong turn and we fell down a rabbit hole." This resonates deeply with me as I navigated through personal challenges and hardships this year, finding refuge and strength in the unwavering support of my boyfriend. This phenomenon also aligns with the line, “Life was never worse, but never better.” Life may have been challenging, but having my boyfriend was never better. The 1989 album has been a steadfast companion through the peaks and valleys of my year, offering a soundtrack that mirrors the emotional nuances I've experienced. The catchy pop hooks and introspective lyrics have provided a comforting and relatable backdrop to my journey, a constant source of reassurance and understanding. Overall, Taylor Swift's 1989 album has been more than just a collection of songs; it has been a mirror reflecting the myriad of emotions, from love and joy to resilience and perseverance, that have defined my year. The timeless themes of love, resilience, and hope woven throughout the album have provided a guiding light, resonating with me profoundly.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
Each time I witness the precision and grace of Simone Biles, I am left speechless. She has been my idol since childhood, and her gymnastic prowess never fails to amaze me. The complexity and difficulty of the skills she executes are not just fascinating but also mind-boggling, leaving me in awe of her unmatched talent. I had so much fun rooting for Simone this past Olympics that I would wake up early to watch every one of her events live. I am a big fan of her unmatched skills and love what she stands for as an athlete. At the 2020 Olympics, she had to take a step back because her mental health wasn’t where it needed to be, and even with all of the backlash she received, she continuously advocated for athlete mental health. It was a significant turning point in professional sports and laid the groundwork for teaching kids that it’s ok to prioritize yourself in a place where the entire world’s eyes are on you. Simone Biles, the pinnacle of her sport, is a joy to watch. Her journey, marked by challenges, has shaped her into what I believe is the most versatile athlete in Team USA and the world. Her values are significant, and her actions are truly admirable. She remains my favorite athlete, and even in her retirement, I will continue to draw inspiration from her past performances, a reminder to always strive for excellence.

As we journeyed to the concert, the anticipation was palpable, growing with every passing mile. When we finally arrived and traversed the parking lot, the sight of thousands of girls and their parents, bedecked in sparkly outfits and brimming with excitement, was a reflection of my own feelings at that moment. I was adorned with butterfly earrings, a butterfly necklace, sunglasses, and a sparkly purple mini-dress, a perfect ensemble that my dad had helped me put together. Little did I know that this night, thanks to my dad, would become the most unforgettable night of my life. The concert was held at a massive stadium, with bright lights and a buzzing energy that filled the air. My favorite artist at the time was Taylor Swift, the blonde pop star who shaped my childhood. With every album drop, I would stay up to hear the first notes of her new poetic lyrics. For my big birthday present, my dad fought the great Ticketmaster war to snatch up two tickets to see her, knowing it had been my dream ever since I was a kid. This was my first concert ever, and he was determined to make it a night I’d never forget. Stepping into the concert, I felt a profound transformation taking place within me. I was no longer just a fan, but an active participant in an experience I had never felt before. It was as if I was on top of the world, with euphoria pulsing through my veins and my heart rate increasing as the concert went on. It was three hours of pure happiness that I got to experience with my dad, and I’m so fortunate to have him be a part of the best night of my entire life. I wish I could pinpoint one moment that made me feel incredible, but the concert struck me so profoundly. From the second Taylor came out on stage to the end, with confetti flying everywhere, my attention was on the stage, and I experienced a never-ending adrenaline rush. My outfit was to represent my favorite album, Speak Now, where her album theme was purple, and her original outfits, back in 2010 when it was released sported butterflies. The greatest surprise of the concert was that Taylor coined it the “Speak Now Taylor’s Version Release Party,” as I was lucky enough to have my concert on the exact day my favorite album was relreleased. When the Speak Now set occurred, I had never been more excited to see that Taylor added an extra song just for our concert. Overall, this concert experience was not just a moment, but a life-changing event. The greatest memory was my dad being by my side the entire way, making it an even more memorable experience I will cherish forever.
