Hello. My name is Sadie Serio. I am a bookworm, as well as a theater dork, who aspires to become NASA's next great aerospace engineer. I hope to help design and build the rocket that will make it to Mars. Some of my favorite things to do include reading books, participating in my school district's theater program, and problem-solving. I especially like problem solving because I almost always learn something from it. I also love volunteering because you get to learn from the experience while also helping people. My motto is: "In order to achieve, you need to believe." It’s what keeps me driven to chase my ambitions until I succeed.

The biggest issue the word is facing right now is Covid. It is a worldwide pandemic that has left everyone in an abnormal everyday cycle. Right now the solutions are to either wear a mask or get vaccinated. The issue with this is that the vaccine is viewed as something to be skeptical about in multiple areas of the world. This is the root of the 50/50 vaccination levels in the U.S. In several states people continue to be skeptical of the vaccine which puts that entire area at risk of contracting Covid. It becomes not only a matter of whether or not you will get Covid, but whether or not you are willing to sacrifice your community because of paranoia towards the vaccine. What we should be doing to fix this issue is start educating people more on the vaccine. Have health experts, chemists, and scientists go to those areas and explain to them how the vaccine works. Without the use of the media, people are more likely to believe that the vaccine isn’t political nor is it a threat. Hearing about the vaccine from people who understand how the vaccine works and have no ulterior motive for you to get it other than to protect you should help reassure multitudes of people and make them more willing to get the vaccine. There is a big difference from hearing about the vaccine from a president with no prior medical experience, especially in the states that didn’t vote for said president, and hearing about it from someone who has no known political affiliation and years of medical experience. Educating everyone on the vaccine should be the number one priority in areas with low vaccination rates. It is even more vital to do so now that there is a delta variant.
"What Moves You" Scholarship
In the society we live in today, everyone faces hardships - some worse than others. We have been pushed to our breaking point by loved ones, employers, just about anyone we know. I know I have, at least. Every day someone is criticizing or questioning my choices and making me rethink my intentions, my goals. Saying I am not good enough, fit enough, masculine enough to achieve what I want to succeed. Every day I am forced to reevaluate and affirm my vocations. I will admit that there are some days I want to give up. That is when I remember Ben Francia's quote: Never say you have failed until you have reached your last attempt, and never say it's your last attempt until you have succeeded.
There are times we are going to want to throw in the towel or default to something simpler. There are times when all we will want to do is quit and admit failure. There are times when we will not even want to get up in the morning because of a voice in our head saying that we will not make it. Even so, we still get up. There is no failure until we say there is, and there is no failure if we succeed. All of the steps it takes to succeed are just steps, not failures along the way. They are learning opportunities that are vital to success.
There are always going to be people trying to push you aside and undermine your abilities. It is those people that should serve as a motive to keep moving forward. Use their words to drive your ambitions, not tear you down. Think about all of the doors that will open when you succeed. There are endless possibilities. There will always be someone saying that you are setting yourself up for failure, but you will only fail once you determine that you have reached your last attempt. Make sure it is not your last attempt until you have succeeded.
