Bio

Hello! My name is Rylan. I am the first child in my family to be going to college. I have four younger siblings so it would be difficult for my parents to pay for college for all of us. Being a genuine and hardworking person are two of my biggest goals. I hope to become a nurse in the future. I want to go into this field because my days will always consist of different tasks, helping people, and regularly learning something new. Any scholarships would help me reach these goals so I can focus on them and not the money I need for them. I want to be a good impact on anyone I'm around.

Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
People are everywhere, they come from different places, backgrounds, jobs, and educations. Although, many of them have struggles in their life they don't talk about. I am passionate about helping people and helping them learn how to help themselves. I have a lot of love and empathy in my heart for others. I see many who are suffering in their mind and body and want to somehow have an impact on them. This is one of the main reasons I have chosen to go into nursing as my future profession and major. Nursing has such a spectrum of jobs to help heal others whether that be mentally or physically. As I go into the medical world I hope to experience all of it and be the best I can be. As I go throughout my life I know in this job I will learn something new every day. I will be able to meet new people and be an impact on them in different ways. No only that, but they will impact me. I want to show kindness and care in my job. I know it will not come without challenges, but I've seen so many amazing people overcome challenges and that inspires me. Obstacles can be challenging things that come in all different forms. Some can be more difficult than others and as humans, we can tend to give up and not ever overcome them. Although, that is not how I saw people I care for approach obstacles, so I don't want to either. I believe obstacles are things that in the end teach us a lesson. They make us better humans and more hardworking. I have what it takes to overcome obstacles because I want to know the end result. I want to know the lesson I'll learn from that obstacle so I can improve who I am. I then feel like I can use this in my career field to have a open minded to learning and also teach others. I grew up in a family of 7, and we went through many family and financial challenges. We had to leave the home we knew for eight years and start somewhere else. Although, I wouldn't be who I am now if that event hadn't happened. I struggled to make friends, but along the way learned about myself and how I wanted to help others in the future. Giving back is something I feel every able person should do. Being blessed the way I am I want to be able to bless others and maybe even make their life less strenuous on them. I say all of this to futher explain my passion for learning through struggle, and reason behind nursing. Unlike many careers this is one where you could be seeing someone's worst or best day. There are an array of helping people in tragedy or bringing life into this world. I have some life experience to be an encourager, but also know I will learn even more. Obstacles challenge me to grow and people inspire me to learn. This is why I chose to pursue nursing.

    Rural Community Scholarship
Community to me is unity. It is the idea of coming together to help and get to know one another. I believe that we all can have a better future with this. There can be so much dissonance between people. We have to realize we are all different. We come from different backgrounds, education, and growing up. After we all accept this that is how we make strides toward improvement. Unity is defined as "the state of being united or joined as a whole." In the description of this scholarship, there was a recognition of not being enough community in smaller towns. Unity is exactly the change I want to see. Becoming one makes it possible for us to think together and be stronger. Every community has things that can improve in the aspect of government, school, and even landscaping. I want to set up meetings with our mayor and school councils to see the things they want improvement on. After knowing these things community days would be a great action to take. I am a part of a small town and I would agree that there is not enough community, so I want to change that. The community also makes me think of speaking up and volunteering to improve our small town. In a small town, we should know one another, and I cannot say I know many people in my town. There should be love for our town and the people that make it up. That starts with us and the action we take to become one. Community days consist of having dinners together to know one another, clean-up days, or even decorating for festive times of the year. In my community, I have had the chance to help set up Christmas lights. Setting these up can seem like such a small thing, but if you realize how much joy it is bringing then it really is a big step. Inviting anyone in the community to things like this can bring us closer to unity. Getting to know each other and what makes them who they are is vital. When we all have an understanding of one another it makes our communication so much better. I hope to continue participating in these events and getting to know more people. This is how I act to make a difference. I hope to see the change of unity and begin to gain more of it in our community.

Hello, my name is Rylan Price. I am the oldest of 5 kids and the first of us to be going to college in the fall. My parents' names are Gwen and Jeremy, and growing up has always taught my siblings and I the importance of family. My family could be considered loud, goofy, close, loving, and a good type of chaotic. I realized that chaos usually has a negative connotation to it, but for us, I like to use it in a good way. Our chaos is that we always have something going on or an event to get to. My siblings and I have all been involved in sports, the arts, and our church. Our main sports have been soccer, softball, basketball, and baseball. With this, my 3 sisters and I have been in musicals together such as "Alice in Wonderland." We always have something going on which is our good chaos. My family is close and loving because we know that we can always turn to one another no matter what happens. I like to say my sibling is my "built-in best friends." I can always count on them when I need them, even if we don't always get along. My parents met during my mom's last year of college. Our family is religious and my parents met at a Bible study. My dad would tell you when he first saw her he thought she was beautiful. While my mom was just coming out of a break up not ready for another boyfriend. The whole night at this Bible study my dad was trying to talk with her, and she was being stubborn. In the end, they ended up talking for hours, and later she moved from Kentucky to Tennessee to be closer to him. My parents got married in April of 2001 and still to this day you can see the love they have for each other. I have seen some of the trials in their marriage, but they always endured it. My parents have such giving hearts and I believe that is something that has led me to want to be a nurse. Nursing is a career that is ever-changing with new scientific discoveries and improvements in comforting people. This draws me to those career paths. Although, the biggest thing is that I want to be able to help people. If I can make an impact on someone's life then I hope to do that. Another opportunity I may have is to travel as a nurse which I would love, and I get that desire from my mom. My parents have been blessed with the opportunity to travel to some beautiful places. With my mom's job, she is able to win trips and always works hard to do so because of her love of traveling. My dad on the other hand just enjoys being with her. He would probably never think of these travels, but I think they balance each other in that way. If I could take my parents on a vacation I would take them to Bora-Bora. I believe it could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and from the photos, it's a unique place. I know they have never been and are always ready to travel to a new place. It would be sentimental for me to travel with them to a place none of us have been to. Along with the fact that my mom and I have always wanted to go there. I hope that I've shown you what a treasure my family is to me.

I recently was diagnosed with anxiety. I have lived with it for a while but never thought it was serious until I didn't enjoy life anymore. I understand that sounds very sad, but music is a thing that brings such joy into people's lives. I can speak from experience that it has brought me much joy. Although, there is a song that I believe has so much truth and depth to it for those who go through anxiety. "The Anonymous Ones" is a song from a broadway musical called "Dear Evan Hansen." This musical is truly emotional and captivates the world of those who live with this disorder. This song's message tells how you don't truly know when someone struggles with anxiety and depression, and that if you do you are not alone. In the lyrics, it urges that you don't have to be anonymous anymore. This song brings awareness to these mental disorders. People need to know they are not alone in their pain or suffering and this song conveys that to me. There could be many songs that I chose because of the depth of much music. It is a way to share feelings but not feel so scared or judged. Although, this song will always mean something to me because I never want anyone to be alone in their pain. Talking, sharing, and music have been helpful to me, and I hope can be to anyone out there who feels alone.

Volunteering is not just giving time and laboring for other people, but boosting confidence and life satisfaction. I believe that many people tend to volunteer for personal gain. Although, I believe it is so we can prove it is never wrong for someone to ask for help. To also prove that, as humans, we should always be willing to lend a helping hand. Nursing is all about lending a helping hand, and that is the career I am pursuing. I hope by going into the medical field I can help patients' physical life, but also be an impact on them psychologically. The goal in the medical field is to give patients their best quality of life. Quality of life is physical and mental well-being. With this degree, I will be even more informed to help with volunteering events. I am always open to gaining experience, having new capabilities, and becoming more qualified. Learning is what I love to do, and being a hard worker is one of my biggest goals. To do these things I have to be informed. In addition, I know all of these things include teamwork. I will try new things, listen to everyone's voice, and also be smart with any of my decisions. I care about others' goals too and cheer for them to succeed. As human beings, our goal should be unity. Unity is being joined as a whole to join as one. In our lives and this world, we will be faced with problems. If we try to go at it alone it is a most likely chance we will fail. Unity is integrating ideas to come up with the smartest solutions. That is what I strive to do as a hand in my work. These are the reasons I care to get my degree. I've outlined my goals and what this scholarship will do for my future. I hope you will consider the impact I intend to make as I make my way through life. Lastly, I thank you for using your funds to encourage others to volunteer. I hope people will put some of their time into other people rather than themselves. Without volunteering, I could not achieve my educational goals. The people are important to me, and getting to know who they are is vital. The nursing career field is all about people and so is volunteering. It is supposed to be a selfless task and I hope to keep it that way.
