Cars have always been a part of my life ever since I was young. I used to dream of owning a plum crazy purple 1969 dodge charger when I was a child. My dad had owned several Volkswagen Golfs and other tuner cars. But where I got my inspiration for wanting to become a mechanic was my grandfather. My grandfather was the real "car guy" in my family and I looked up to him for that, The main cars he has and had when I grew up were a 2001 BMW M550i and his 2004 Nissan 350Z which I adore and sometimes work on them with him, fixing the door handle and exhaust leaks on the Z.
My choice to pursue the automotive field for my future education came from a lot of my personality. Like most tradesmen, I enjoy working with my hands and its how I learn how to do something, while most people can read or hear something and know how to do it, I struggle and usually have to do the task physically or be shown how to do it, and in the automotive field that the only way to work on cars is using your hands. Along with my hands-on learning style, I have always been a creative kid, building with Legos in most of my free time or picking up some new hobby or task.
Legos were the main toy that made me realize I didn't have the same dreams as other people. Legos made sense to my brain and as I grew older and was introduced to car culture and grew old enough to understand and appreciate it, mechanics and cars became an almost perfect segway from the small bricks I would play with as a child. Every engine and component of a car must go together a certain way with specific torque specs and must be assembled a certain way, It's pretty much exactly like the Legos I used to play with. The feeling and emotions cars can give you are important to me as well, for me personally it was learning how to drive the manual on my 1999 honda accord and feeling pure happiness once I was able to drive the car to my friend's house when the week before I had spent half driving the car around a parking lot, stalling more than driving. There are many other stories but the feeling cars can give you is unlike any other emotion I have ever experienced in my life, anything from pure happiness and confidence to absolute sadness and regret. But while some emotions may be negative its the intensity of those feelings that makes me realize I truly do love cars
Cars have almost taken over my entire life right now, I spend almost every minute of my day outside of school doing something car related. Even in school, I am pursuing my career in the automotive field because I am enrolled in the MST Automotive Technology program and have completed the first year and I am currently enrolled in the second year of that class. I am also getting my foot in the door in the automotive field with my job, I have been employed at my local Valvoline for close to a year and I feel it was a great start for me and for my future. I also am going to be attending UNOH in the fall for their Automotive technician and High Performace Degrees.
