      Healthy Eating Scholarship
Eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle is not only a great change in your body, but it is also a great change in your mental state. Choosing to eat healthy foods will make an individual feel better not only on the inside, but the way they look, feel, and carry themselves in everyday life. The summer going into my tenth-grade year I decided to go on a diet and try to lose weight. I went into it not knowing what to do or how to approach it, I was lost. All I knew was I needed to try and help my body by eating healthier and also helping myself with confidence. I started to eat more vegetables and lean meats and only drank water with limited sweets and fried foods. After a month of this, I started feeling a lot better overall and I started to notice changes in my body along with changes in how I felt about myself. I continued on this path for a while and I noticed how before I started I was tired all the time and my grades were lower than they could have been, but after I felt more energetic and my grades in school were higher. I also gained more confidence in myself; I started going out with friends more and felt good about the way I looked in the mirror for the first time in a long time. This along with other significant changes I felt and saw with my body and mind are the changes I have noticed while practicing healthy eating habits. I believe it's important to have healthy eating habits because it makes people happier with themselves and with the people they interact with. I found that after I started a healthier lifestyle I was happier around people and I even had friends and family members tell me they had noticed a change in the way I acted and carried myself. I feel like everyone should have healthy eating habits; it could help the world be a better place and most certainly help anyone who practices it feel better during everyday life. Something so simple and easy as choosing the better option at the table can influence people who struggle with making bad choices in life like drinking, smoking, or any other harmful thing to the body, to make the right choice and not do those things. I have personally never seen anyone who does alcohol or drugs eat healthily, or even eat at all. I believe by first choosing the healthy option at the table can impact a person's choices in life for the better.
      Wieland Nurse Appreciation Scholarship
Working in a healthcare unit is much more than just helping people get out quickly and being able to go back to their homes happy and healthy. Pursuing a career in this field is a challenge at times, it will have its many struggles and complications along the way, but I am willing to do anything to complete it and help people in a way no other has before. I aim to not only help the sick get back to their normal daily lives, but I aim to also touch them differently than some think about or consider. I want to be able to form a relationship with my patients, feel the pain and struggles they are enduring and connect to them on a more personal deep level. I want to know about every patient I deal with and learn who they are, not by what their papers tell me and the information I will be provided, but by who they truly are. I want every patient to be able to walk out with a smile on their face, not only because they were finally allowed to leave their stay, but because of the way their nurse made a positive impact on them and their lives. This is the positive impact I plan to make throughout my healthcare career. My family has had its hardships in life, my dad being the main one who has had sickness and troubles. We have had many hospital stays and many experiences with nurses, good and bad. The good ones have always made our stay enjoyable, but the not so good have made them quite awful. The good nurses have always made my dad happy and kept him in a good spirit even though he was going through a terrible time. I have noticed the way they talk and the way they try to make a positive impact on him and it truly worked the times they were good and pleasant. On the other hand, the bad ones made his stay way worse than it should have been. Some of his nurses truly didn't care for him in any way, they seemed like they were just in it for the pay. These nurses honestly inspired and showed me how not to go about handling patients. I intend to be like the good nurses and make my patient's visits a lot better, even though they may be going through a traumatic time in their life. I plan to make a positive impact on the world by approaching my healthcare career as a nurse in a manner that most do not. My patients will have confidence and reassurance that I am sincerely there for them and their personal well-being. They will not feel like they are just an ordinary patient in a hospital room being taken care of because they have to be, they will know I care for them deeply.

I was born with a deficiency in my left eye which caused my right eye to take over. After 2 years of patching the right eye and wearing glasses, I only had slight improvement in the weak left eye. So I have worn glasses or a contact since I was in Kindergarten to try and improve my overall vision. This has affected my ability in the classroom and in sports - which I love. My parents have always feared there would be an injury to my good eye, but they have supported my love of athletics throughout my school years. Thankfully there has not been any major incidents. The goals for my future are to become a Registered Nurse. I want to help people and show compassion to patients and their families. I love meeting people and working on a team. I believe that becoming a Registered Nurse would mean that I could part of a healthcare team working together to improve a person's quality of life.
