Now, for my original poem:
As a college student, there are many things that I juggle
From classes and exams to parties and snuggles
But despite the chaos, I try to stay cheerful
And use my wit and humor to keep things bearable
Like the time I pulled an all-nighter for a paper
Only to realize I had written about a different chapter
Or the time I mixed up my schedules and missed a quiz
But my professor saw the humor in it and gave me a pass with a grin and a whiz
But it's not all mishaps and mistakes
There are also moments of triumph and celebrations to bake
Like the time I aced a presentation in front of the class
Or the time I landed a summer internship that I couldn't pass
College can be overwhelming, there's no denying
But with a sense of humor, I find myself surviving
So if you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed
Just remember to laugh it off, it'll make you feel mellowed.

Eleven Scholarship
As a first-time international college student from a small village in Ecuador, coming to the University of Memphis to pursue a degree in computer science was both exciting and daunting. I had always dreamed of receiving a world-class education and making a difference in the world through my chosen field, but I also knew that I would face numerous challenges as a foreigner in a new country.
One of the biggest obstacles I faced was the language barrier. English was not my first language, and although I had studied it for many years, speaking and understanding it fluently was still a challenge. I remember feeling overwhelmed and frustrated during my first few weeks at the university. It was difficult to keep up with lectures and participate in class discussions, and I often felt lost and left out.
Despite these challenges, I refused to let them hold me back. I had worked too hard and come too far to give up now. I was determined to succeed and make the most of this opportunity. So, I "turned it up to 11" and did everything I could to improve my language skills. I signed up for English language tutoring and spent countless hours practicing and studying. I also sought out opportunities to engage with native English speakers and immerse myself in the language as much as possible.
It wasn't easy, and there were many times when I wanted to give up. But I kept pushing myself and reminding myself of my goals and the reasons why I was here. Through sheer determination and hard work, my efforts paid off. My language skills improved significantly, and I began to feel more confident and capable in class. I even started to excel in my studies, and I was eventually able to earn a spot on the Dean's List.
But the biggest lesson I learned from this experience was the importance of perseverance and resilience. I had always been a hard worker, but facing this challenge made me realize that I was capable of much more than I had ever imagined. I learned that no matter how difficult a situation may seem, with enough determination and hard work, it is always possible to overcome it and achieve success.
Looking back on my journey as a first-time international college student, I am grateful for the challenges I faced and the lessons I learned. They have helped shape me into the person I am today and have given me the strength and resilience to tackle any obstacle that comes my way. I am confident that the skills and lessons I have learned will serve me well as I continue my education and embark on my career in computer science. I am proud of myself for not giving up and for being able to overcome this obstacle, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.
SmartSolar Sustainability Scholarship
As a computer science undergraduate from Ecuador, I have become increasingly aware of the urgent need to combat climate change. The impacts of this global crisis are far-reaching and devastating, and include rising sea levels, more intense natural disasters, loss of biodiversity, and negative effects on human health. It is clear that we must take urgent action to address this issue, and there are many ways in which we can make a positive impact.
One of the most impactful ways to combat climate change is through the transition to renewable energy sources. Traditional fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, are the primary drivers of climate change due to the greenhouse gases they emit when burned. In contrast, renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, produce significantly fewer greenhouse gases and have the potential to greatly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
In my personal life, I strive to combat climate change by reducing my own carbon footprint. This includes things like using public transportation or carpooling instead of driving alone, using energy-efficient appliances and turning off lights and electronics when not in use, and supporting environmentally-friendly products and companies.
I also try to educate myself and others about the importance of sustainability and the steps we can take to protect the environment. This includes staying informed about climate change policies and advocating for change at the local and national level. I believe that it is important for individuals to take personal responsibility for their impact on the environment, and to do what they can to reduce their carbon footprint.
As a computer science student, I also recognize the potential for technology to play a crucial role in the fight against climate change. From developing more efficient and sustainable computing systems to creating innovative solutions for capturing and storing renewable energy, there are many opportunities for technologists to make a positive impact on the environment.
One specific area where I see great potential is in the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze and optimize energy usage. By using AI to analyze patterns in energy consumption, we can identify inefficiencies and develop strategies to reduce waste and improve efficiency. This can help to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and decrease our overall carbon emissions.
In addition to these efforts, it is also important for governments and policy makers to take action to address climate change. This can include implementing carbon pricing schemes, supporting the development and deployment of renewable energy technologies, and establishing regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Overall, combating climate change requires a multi-faceted approach that involves individual actions, technological advancements, and policy changes. As a computer science undergraduate from Ecuador, I am committed to doing my part in this effort and hope to use my skills and knowledge to contribute to a more sustainable future. I believe that by working together and taking action at all levels, we can make a significant impact in the fight against climate change and create a better future for ourselves and future generations.

One song that has a particularly important message to me is "Rise Up" by Andra Day. This song speaks to the resilience and strength that we all possess, and encourages us to rise up and face the challenges that come our way. The lyrics "You're broken down and tired / But I see a glimmer of hope in your eyes / Still fightin' for a place in this world / But when you're stretched to the limit, don't you give up / You'll find love and be loved" really resonate with me, as they remind me that no matter how difficult things may seem, there is always hope and the possibility for growth and change.
In my own life, I have faced numerous challenges and setbacks, and this song has been a source of inspiration and motivation for me. It reminds me to keep fighting and to never give up, even when things get tough. The message of "Rise Up" is one that I believe is particularly important in today's world, where it is all too easy to become discouraged and to lose sight of our goals.
Overall, I think that "Rise Up" is a powerful and inspiring song that has an important message for us all. It reminds us that we are strong and capable, and that we can overcome any obstacle if we have the courage and determination to do so. So, this song is the most important one to me because of its message of resilience and hope.
