Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship
Hello, I am Rosina Mensah, a first-year college student pursuing an associate degree in computer science in Minnesota at Saint Paul College, a community and technical college. I hope to transfer to a four-year college or university after my time there.
My reasons for pursuing a degree in computer science started in the year 2020 when everyone was quarantined in their homes. At the time, I was a tenth-grader completing schoolwork from the comfort of my home with nowhere to go. Fortunately, at my church, there was a computer science workshop organized by one of the church members who works in tech and has an organization (Girls Dream Code) supporting more women of color getting into computer science.
I was one of the women and students in the first organized workshop, and I loved it. Fast forward to 2023 During my senior year, I decided to go to college and study computer science in hopes of becoming more knowledgeable in this field with its various dimensions in hopes of a career. my primary goal is to graduate with a specialization in cybersecurity but also have other options as a standby
My dream job after receiving my degree is to find a well-paying job in cybersecurity that is remote, in-person, or hybrid. My long-term goal while working as a cybersecurity agent is to learn and work in a teamwork-based environment with others who have been in the field long before me to be able to succeed in my career
I feel I am the best candidate for receiving this scholarship in regards to the fact that I discovered an interest in computer science and am dedicating my college years in pursuit of a career in one of the fields (cybersecurity), which will be my dream to live my life with and in this complex world.
Bright Lights Scholarship
Access to higher education is a gateway to a brighter future. Still, for many students from low-income or first-generation households like myself, the dream of attending college can feel out of reach due to financial barriers. Scholarships are a beacon of hope for students like myself who have overcome obstacles on their educational journey.
As a first-generation college student, I have always understood the importance of education, but I also recognized the challenges ahead. I spent my junior and senior years in college thinking of what I was going to do after high school. My dad, while supportive, did not have much experience with the complexities of navigating the college application process and other minor and major complexities . for funding college. This meant work needed to be done in financing my education had to be consistently done by the work had to be done by me.
My educational goals are rooted in a deep passion for making a future for myself and impacting the world. I believe that everyone was brought into the world with a purpose to make an impact in addressing and caring for our planet in one of the most critical challenges of our time. I aspire to continue to study Computer Science in college and work towards innovative solutions to mitigate the negative aspects of how the Internet is used in terms of security. However, the cost of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses is a significant barrier that threatens to derail my dreams.
Receiving this scholarship would be. It would mean that I can focus on my studies and actively participate in extracurricular activities related to my field of interest without the constant worry of financial strain. The scholarship would enable me to explore research opportunities, internships, and community projects that could enhance my knowledge and skills.
Beyond my personal goals, I am committed to giving back to my community. I plan to use my education and skills to engage in local environmental initiatives and educate others about sustainable practices. By doing so, I hope to inspire other underrepresented minority and first-generation students to pursue higher education, knowing that their dreams are attainable.
In conclusion, The Bright Lights scholarship is not just financial assistance; it is a step toward a brighter future for me who has faced unique challenges. It represents an investment in my dreams, and my potential to contribute to a better world through education and serving. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, and I am committed to using it to pursue my dreams and inspire others to do the same.

if I could have everyone in the world read one book it would be a book I found myself being dwelled in a couple of weeks after graduating from high school while searching for something new to read called "The Alchemist."

First and foremost, "The Alchemist" is a profound and inspirational tale that imparts life lessons and wisdom applicable to people from all walks of life. It tells the story of Santiago, a shepherd who embarks on a journey to discover his Personal Legend or his life's purpose from Coelho's Authorial Choice. This theme resonates with me and will resonate with readers of all ages and backgrounds, encouraging them to seek their dreams and aspirations.
The book also explores the idea of destiny and the power of believing in one's dreams. Coelho's narrative weaves together themes of hope, resilience, and the importance of following one's heart. By reading "The Alchemist," individuals can gain a deeper understanding of the significance of pursuing their passions, taking risks, and persevering through challenges.

I do recommend and wish for everyone to read this book for themselves to experience the wisdom and not just hear my words about Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist".
Minority/Women in STEM Scholarship
Hi, My name is Rosina Mensah. I am an 18 years almost 19 years Black African woman. During my educational journey, I've encountered several significant challenges as a first-generation, low-income (FGLI) student interested in STEM. One of the most pressing hurdles has been the financial strain my family faces. This financial strain has been a constant mental stress to my academic pursuits.
Navigating the college process, environment and financial aid systems, such as the FAFSA, has been another formidable challenge. With no prior knowledge of how to navigate potential financial opportunities and the many resources available to me, I had to independently research and understand these complex systems, often feeling overwhelmed and unsure about the decisions I was making.
Academically, I've had to overcome disparities in educational resources and support and get work done. I've relied on self-study and a determination to excel in my STEM coursework which is very difficult to maintain while working a day job, frequently facing limited access to time to focus more on my academic from exhaustion after work.
Despite these obstacles, I remain committed to pursuing a STEM education, as I firmly believe that it holds the key to making a positive impact on the world. Through my education, I aspire to contribute to advancements in technology specifically in cybersecurity and accounting for finances. By conducting research, innovating, or participating in STEM-related community projects, I aim to gain knowledge that will help real-world problems and improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.
Furthermore, as a BIPOC and female STEM student, I understand the importance of diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. I plan to use my unique perspective and experiences to advocate for greater representation, ensuring that more underprivileged individuals have access to STEM opportunities. This includes mentoring and supporting younger students facing similar challenges, thereby creating a more inclusive and equitable STEM community from the knowledge I gain from my time studying STEM.
In conclusion, my journey as a FGLI student pursuing STEM has been marked by financial struggles, navigational challenges, and academic disparities. However, I am determined to leverage my STEM education to make a positive impact on the world by contributing to research, innovation, and community engagement when presented. Additionally, I am committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM, ensuring that underprivileged voices are heard and represented in the field, and ultimately hoping for it to lead to a more equitable and innovative future.
Netflix and Scholarships!
I don't come across interesting shows or movies that subdue my attention for a couple of hours at the of my day before bed due to not having much interest in shows because the shows I come across feel boring and unentertaining to me as they seem to have the same storyline with different actors over and over again but in 2020, I came across this show called "Lupin" a french show which was recently added on the Netflix.
"Lupin" has emerged as a captivating and talked-about Netflix series that offers a fresh take on the classic gentleman thief archetype. If you're looking for a show that combines thrilling heists, complex characters, and a richly layered narrative, "Lupin" should be at the top of your binge-watching list. Here's why it's my series of choice, and why you should clear your weekend to immerse yourself in its world.
Firstly, "Lupin" breathes new life into a classic character. The show draws inspiration from the beloved French literary character Arsène Lupin, created by Maurice Leblanc. However, it gives him a modern, contemporary twist. Assane Diop, portrayed brilliantly by Omar Sy, is a charismatic and resourceful gentleman thief with a noble purpose. He seeks to avenge his father's wrongful imprisonment, unraveling a web of deceit and corruption in the process.
The show is a masterclass in storytelling, with a narrative that's as intricate as the heists themselves. Each episode builds on the last, weaving a complex tapestry of mysteries, betrayals, and revelations. Assane's clever schemes and his pursuit of justice make for an engaging and suspenseful plot. "Lupin" is a non-stop thrill ride with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
Omar Sy's charismatic performance as Assane is a highlight of the series. He brings depth, charm, and gravitas to the character, making him incredibly relatable and rootable. Assane is not your typical criminal; he's a character with a strong moral code, and you'll find yourself invested in his mission from the very beginning.
Moreover, "Lupin" explores relevant themes like identity, racism, and social inequality. It delves into Assane's struggles as an immigrant in France and how his heritage shapes his life. This added layer of social commentary elevates the series beyond just a typical heist drama.
The supporting cast is exceptional, and the characters are well-developed, adding complexity and depth to the story. The chemistry between Assane and his ex-wife Claire, played by Ludivine Sagnier, is palpable, and the emotional dynamics between characters add another layer of richness to the show.
Another reason to dive into "Lupin" is the stunning Parisian backdrop. The series showcases the beauty of Paris, from its iconic landmarks to its hidden gems, offering a visual treat alongside the compelling storyline.
In conclusion, "Lupin" is not just a heist series; it's a character-driven, socially relevant, and visually captivating masterpiece that offers something for everyone. With its clever storytelling, charismatic lead, and thought-provoking themes, it's a series that deserves a binge-watch. Clear your weekend, get your favorite snacks, and prepare to be immersed in the thrilling world of Assane Diop as he masterfully outwits his enemies and seeks justice for his family. "Lupin" is a gem on Netflix that should not be missed.
Windward Spirit Scholarship
The Ode to Millennials-Gen Z is a powerful and inspiring message that highlights the challenges faced by this generation and the potential they have to become the next "Greatest Generation." The text acknowledges the difficult circumstances faced by Millennials-Gen Z, including low incomes, underemployment, and a world on the brink of bankruptcy. Despite these challenges, Mellenials-Gen Z observes that many young people are excited to be a part of life and eager to make a difference in the world.
One of the most striking themes of the Ode is the scheme that the older generation often wishes that the younger generation would do things their way. This can be seen in the contrast between the way parents used to communicate with their children (through letters) and the way young people prefer to communicate today (through technology). However, the text also highlights the similarities between the Greatest Generation and the Millennials-Gen Z, including their acceptance of the challenges they face and their willingness to take on burdens with a sense of duty.
The text also touches on some of the more difficult issues facing young people today, such as the high cost of education and healthcare. Despite these challenges, the text observes that young people are eager to make a positive impact on the world and to take on the responsibility of addressing issues such as global warming and income inequality.
Overall, the Ode to Millennials-Gen Z is a powerful and inspiring message that should encourage young people to pursue their dreams and strive to make a positive impact on the world. It is a reminder that, despite the challenges that they may face, young people have the potential to become the next "Greatest Generation" and to shape the future in meaningful ways.
Zendaya Superfan Scholarship
Zendaya is an incredibly talented individual who has excelled in both the fashion and acting industries. Her ability to captivate audiences both on and off the screen is truly remarkable. While it's difficult to choose just one aspect of her career that I admire the most, I must say that her fashion and acting careers stand out to me.
When it comes to fashion, Zendaya is a true trailblazer. She is known for her bold and daring fashion choices, often pushing boundaries and setting new trends. Whether she's rocking a sleek pantsuit or a show-stopping gown, Zendaya always manages to make a statement. What I admire most about her fashion career is her fearlessness in trying new things. She never shies away from taking risks and experimenting with different styles, and it always pays off. Her unique sense of style has earned her a place as a fashion icon, and I always look forward to seeing what she'll wear next.
As for Zendaya's acting career, it's clear that she has a natural talent for the craft from the time that I fell in love with her from Disney's "KC Undercover." She has taken on a variety of roles, from the shy and awkward high school student in "Euphoria" to the fierce and confident MJ in the "Spider-Man" franchise. With each role, she brings a level of authenticity and depth that is truly captivating. What I admire most about her acting career is her ability to convey complex emotions and bring characters to life in a way that feels real and relatable. She has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with in the industry, and I can't wait to see what she does next.
In conclusion, Zendaya's fashion and acting careers are both incredibly impressive, and I admire them both for different reasons. Her fearlessness and creativity in fashion, as well as her natural talent and authenticity in acting, make her a true icon and inspiration to many.
Dreamer's Midpoint Scholarship
As a non-U.S. citizen, there have been several challenges that I have faced throughout my education. One of the biggest challenges has been adapting to a new environment and culture. Coming from a different country, I had to learn to adjust to new customs, traditions, and modes of communication.
Another challenge that I faced was not that focused on the language barrier but mainly focused on making friends. Even though English is not my first language and not a language barrier either, it was difficult for me to communicate effectively with mostly my peers because of the difference in the culture we were born in and grew up in and at times my teachers when it came to asking
simple little questions because a voice told me it was a stupid question.
I also found it challenging to ask questions during my middle and high school years for reasons of being an "introvert" that I later came to know the name for. lectures, taking notes, and getting school work were not that difficult for me during the prime of my secondary school years but I lacked the confidence and motivation to complete any work which made it harder to keep up with the coursework.
Despite these challenges, I was able to overcome them through perseverance and hard work. I made a conscious effort to learn more about American culture and customs, and I sought out and still seeking opportunities to practice my communication skills and gain more confidence in myself. I also worked closely with my teachers and peers to ensure that I was on track with my studies and understood the coursework.
My career aspirations are to become a software engineer or in cybersecurity and serve for a major tech company. I have always been interested in technology and its ability to improve people's lives. I am particularly interested in software engineering and cybersecurity because I believe that it has the potential to create innovative solutions to complex problems.
Pursuing post-secondary education is important to me because it will provide me with the knowledge and skills that I need to achieve my career aspirations. I believe that a degree in computer science will provide me with a strong foundation in the principles of software engineering, as well as practical experience in developing and implementing software solutions.
As a non-citizen
In conclusion, being a non-U.S. citizen has presented me with several challenges throughout my education. However, I have been able to overcome these challenges through hard work and perseverance. My career aspirations as a software engineer or cybersecurity and my desire to pursue post-secondary education are driven by my passion for technology and my belief in its ability to create positive change in the world financially for underrepresented communities and populations.
