Bio

My name is Roshini Narayanan, and I am a sophomore at Johns Hopkins University. I have passions in biomedical engineering, medicine, pediatric volunteering, cardiology and pulmonology anesthesia, and dance. I have done years of research in cardiology and have engineered artificial heart valves and arteries, have studied the effects of smoking on lung epithelial cells, and am currently investigating diets that will reduce and hopefully reverse hypertension in adults. I was on a design team which made an imaging device for endoscopes and got our paper published and presented at the SPIE Medical Imaging Conference. I volunteer weekly with the Johns Hopkins Hospital, playing and speaking with children from ages 3-15 before they go in for their appointments. I have career interests in biomedical engineering but principally medicine, with a dream to be in pediatric cardiology. I am incredibly passionate about dance and I've been dancing since I was 4 years old. I have engaged in choreography, costuming, and stage makeup with my current team, JHU Zinda, and we have competed at multiple intercollegiate competitions. I believe that I am a great candidate because I have a lot of passion and motivation for the fields I have chosen to pursue, and I have dedicated many hours and years to engaging in these fields and growing as a person, researcher, and volunteer. The only thing standing in my way is financial issues with pursuing medical school, so I would sincerely appreciate the chance to lessen that burden and continue following my dreams!
