Bio

I plan to pursue a college education in Marketing and Entrepreneurship at a University with a strong business curriculum for my entrepreneurial endeavors - which is my passion! My future career aspirations include being a successful business owner and an ultra-successful real estate investor. I intend to help kids across the USA with access to financial education to save and invest for their future; to use my resources to help those in need who want to strive for more; to work with local businesses to help them grow using innovative marketing tools; and to positively impact financial literacy in my home district, as we don't do enough in our high schools and communities! I’ve been inspired by my friends and family to pursue my goals. They’ve always been supportive of my dreams and aspirations, and continue to encourage me to chase after them. At times when I saw a string of setbacks, I’ve been blessed to have mentors come alongside me to help me to pick back up, brush off, and run again! They see the potential in me, calling me out to aim for success in everything I do. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m grateful for the encouragement and I’ll continue to work hard to keep going. I stay inspired because I want to achieve financial success to lead my family to financial freedom and make life better for them - especially my Mom (a single mom who has sacrificed dearly for me) and my Grandparents who’ve been my solid rock (with many nights of praying and nursing when I was at my worst medically). They’ve been the wind beneath my wings!!

During the spring semester of my sophomore year, I faced a challenge that tested my physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. On April 8th, an ordinary day turned catastrophic when an object left on campus caused me to fall and break both wrists. Suddenly, basic tasks became impossible, my independence vanished, and I was forced into a recovery that felt overwhelming. Yet, in the chaos and frustration, my faith became my anchor, guiding me through one of the toughest times in my life. The challenges were immediate and overwhelming. With two broken wrists, I couldn’t write, type, or attend classes as usual. Even simple tasks like eating or brushing my teeth required help, leaving me dependent on family and an assistant for daily needs. Beyond the physical struggles, my school offered little support, adding to my stress. Despite providing medical documentation and reaching out repeatedly, I was locked out of Blackboard, unable to access assignments or materials. The administration’s indifference felt like another blow, this time to my spirit. In these dark moments, when despair loomed, I turned to my faith for strength. I reminded myself that there was a greater purpose, even if I couldn’t see it yet. My faith gave me hope and patience, helping me rise above my frustration with the school’s lack of support and focus on healing and academic progress. Prayer became my lifeline, giving me courage to face each day and empowering me to advocate for myself despite setbacks. My faith also encouraged me to let go of anger, choosing forgiveness over resentment and focusing on the path forward. My support system became an extension of my faith in action. Family and friends offered not only physical help but also emotional encouragement. Their support reminded me that I was surrounded by love and community, even in my most difficult moments. My assistant played an essential role in helping me organize and catch up on missed work, keeping me motivated. This collective support, grounded in faith and compassion, helped me find the resilience to keep going. Over time, determination and persistence paid off. I regained access to Blackboard and started tackling missed assignments. The recovery process was slow and painful, and catching up on coursework felt overwhelming, but I focused on one task at a time. Gradually, I regained control and made steady progress. By the end of the semester, I had completed all assignments, taken missed exams, and achieved a 3.6 GPA. Despite the setbacks, I maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0, a testament to my perseverance, faith, and hard work. This experience strengthened my faith and taught me valuable lessons in resilience, self-advocacy, and the power of a strong support network. Faith showed me how to turn adversity into growth and approach challenges with hope and determination. The accident, which initially felt like a devastating setback, became a defining moment. Through faith and resilience, I discovered my ability to overcome obstacles, forgive, and emerge stronger. This challenge wasn’t the end of my story—it was a pivotal chapter that proved, with faith, anything is possible.
    Future Leaders Scholarship
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to lead an initiative that created meaningful change in my school community. My high school offered two separate classes—one on personal finance and another on investing. While both were valuable, I saw a fundamental issue. Not all students were able to participate in the investing class, leaving many without access to critical knowledge that could shape their future financial stability. Recognizing this gap, I began advocating to merge both classes into a single, comprehensive course so every student could gain essential financial literacy skills. The challenge wasn’t small. The administration and faculty had already established the courses as separate entities, and combining them required adjustments to the curriculum, teaching methods, and even faculty workloads. Additionally, persuading people of the urgency and importance of this change took effort. Financial literacy wasn’t always a priority focus in education, and I needed to show why this change mattered—not just for the students taking the class now, but for future generations too. To begin, I made it my mission to gather as much information as I could. I spoke with students who had taken either one or both of the classes to understand their experiences and identify gaps in the curriculum. I also connected with students who hadn’t been able to take the investing class due to scheduling conflicts or other barriers. Their feedback inspired me to push harder because it reinforced the fact that access to these lessons was not a luxury but a necessity. With this groundwork, I approached my vice principle, armed with specific examples and a proposal for how the combined course could work. I emphasized how an integrated curriculum would make financial literacy more accessible to all students while providing a more cohesive learning experience. To make my case stronger, I shared evidence of how financial literacy impacts long-term success and highlighted how many young adults enter the world unprepared for managing money, saving, or investing. Ultimately, my efforts paid off. Before I graduated, the school implemented the combined class, ensuring every student had access to lessons that covered both personal finance and investing. Knowing that I played a part in giving my classmates—and future students—the chance to learn these life-changing skills remains one of my proudest accomplishments. It wasn’t just about merging two classes; it was about creating an opportunity for everyone to access the knowledge they need to succeed in life, regardless of their background or schedule. This experience deepened my belief in the importance of financial literacy, not only in schools but also within other communities close to my heart, like my church. Just as I advocated for change in high school, I am now committed to bringing similar resources to faith-based communities. I believe education is a powerful tool for empowerment, and financial literacy is one of the most impactful ways we can equip people to build stable, secure lives. Reflecting on my high school advocacy, I see how this experience has prepared me for future endeavors. It taught me how to listen, empathize, strategize, and lead positive, tangible change. Whether it’s advocating for more comprehensive financial education in schools or creating accessible programs for communities underserved in financial knowledge, the lessons I learned then continue to shape my vision. Leadership is about more than having ideas—it’s about turning those ideas into meaningful action to lift others up. That’s a principle I’ll carry with me as I champion financial literacy and create opportunities for people to thrive.

When I was a child, I dreamt of becoming a firefighter. The idea of rushing to help people, being part of something bigger, and making a tangible difference inspired me. That dream, rooted in courage and service, remained vivid in my mind for years. However, as I grew, I began to see new possibilities. I discovered a strong interest in entrepreneurship—an entirely different path, yet one that also felt meaningful. The challenge of building something from the ground up and the creativity involved in running a business began to capture my imagination in ways I hadn’t expected. While my childhood dream shifted, the underlying desire to make an impact persevered. Along the way, another path began to stand out to me—the military. The thought of serving my country felt deeply significant. The values of discipline, teamwork, and leadership were compelling, offering lessons that I knew could shape both my personal and professional life. I see the military as not just a way to give back to my country, but also as an opportunity to cultivate qualities that would have a lifelong impact. These experiences, I believe, would prove invaluable as I pursue my career in business. After college, I hope to serve in the military while I’m still within the age range to do so. The leadership and problem-solving skills I would gain there are ones I aim to translate into my entrepreneurial ventures. Business, much like the military, requires discipline, teamwork, and the ability to make decisions under pressure. For me, success in business won’t just come from profits or accomplishments—it will come from the ability to create something that uplifts others and contributes to their success as well. Faith has been at the core of my aspirations, tying these seemingly varied paths together. It has always reminded me to stay grounded and purposeful. My relationship with God shapes the way I view success—not as something measured solely by personal achievements but by the positive difference I can make when guided by His plan. Faith has also taught me the importance of giving back, which is why contributing to my church and community is an unwavering part of my vision. I see the resources I gain and the knowledge I develop through my career as tools not just for personal growth, but for helping others grow. My deepest goal is to bring financial literacy to faith-based communities, bridging gaps where resources or education might be lacking. By offering mentorship and creating programs within churches or community spaces, I hope to empower others to be good stewards of their finances, enabling them to build stable and successful lives. These lessons go beyond numbers—they promote independence, resilience, and hope. It’s my way of giving back to the community and church that have given me so much. Reflecting on my childhood dream of firefighting, it’s remarkable to see how that vision planted the seeds for my current values—service, leadership, and impact. While my career path may look different than what I once imagined, the heart of my dream remains the same. Whether through entrepreneurship, military service, or volunteering, my purpose is to live a life that inspires and uplifts others. Dreams grow and evolve as we do, and I’ve come to learn that the essence of a dream isn’t lost when its form changes. At my core, I’ve held tight to the same values that once made me want to save lives as a firefighter. Today, they guide me toward building a purposeful business, serving my country, and making meaningful contributions to both my faith community and the world around me.

Growing up in a Jamaican family with roots extending to Chinese heritage through my paternal grandmother, I have had the privilege of experiencing the richness of a multicultural upbringing. This unique blend of cultures has profoundly shaped my perspective, instilling in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and empathy. From an early age, I learned to appreciate the beauty of diversity while understanding the importance of staying grounded in my identity. As the child of immigrant parents, I’ve witnessed the resilience required to navigate unfamiliar systems and build a stable foundation in a new country. These experiences have not only taught me the importance of adaptability and determination but have also inspired me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My grandparents, who immigrated to the United States, are the heart and soul of our family. They have been unwavering pillars of strength, guiding us through life with their sacrifices and resilience. My grandfather, who is nearing 80 years old, continues to work tirelessly to support our family, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to ensuring our collective success. My grandmother, with her quiet strength and nurturing presence, has been a source of love and stability, teaching us the importance of humility and unity. Their dedication, fortitude, and love have instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility to uphold their legacy through my achievements and to honor their sacrifices. Currently, I am pursuing a Management major with a Finance minor at the University of Hartford. My education has been a crucial stepping stone in my journey toward making a lasting impact on the world. Over the years, I have gained invaluable professional experience through internships at Apple Inc. and Otis Elevator Company. These roles have given me insights into leadership, innovation, and collaboration, equipping me with the skills necessary to thrive in dynamic environments. This summer, I am excited to join Target Corporate as a management intern, where I will further develop my leadership abilities and refine my skills in preparation for my goal of securing a full-time role as a Store Director. Each of these opportunities has strengthened my commitment to leading with purpose and driving positive change. By developing programs that educate individuals on managing finances, building wealth, and achieving economic stability, I hope to empower others to take control of their financial futures. From a young age, I learned the meaning of resilience and determination. Growing up in a challenging environment, my family and I lived with my grandparents. My grandfather, nearly 80 years old, still works tirelessly to support our family, even when he deserves to rest and enjoy his golden years. Watching him leave for work each day breaks my heart, as does seeing my grandmother’s quiet worry. Their unwavering love and sacrifices inspire me to strive for a future where I can retire them and give back for all they’ve done for me. Despite these challenges, I have remained focused on my dreams and grounded in my faith, which has been the cornerstone of my journey. Volunteering in my community, such as at food banks and the Storehouse Food Pantry for Cornerstone Christian Center, has allowed me to serve others and appreciate the power of compassion and community. These experiences reinforce my belief that as Christians, we are called to uplift those around us. I am pursuing real estate and entrepreneurship, alongside studies as a Management major with a Finance minor at the University of Hartford. I have gained professional experience through internships at Apple Inc. and Otis Elevator Company, and I am now preparing for a management internship with Target Corporate. I aspire to excel in this role and hope to be offered a full-time position as a Store Director. This scholarship is a stepping stone toward realizing my vision of creating opportunities for others. It will enable me to focus on my education, expand initiatives, and retire my grandparents. With your support, I can turn adversity into triumph and inspire others to do the same.

Faith has been an unwavering pillar in my journey towards success, guiding my steps and sustaining me through challenges and triumphs alike. As a devout Christian, my relationship with God has shaped not only my character but also my ambitions and goals. Every decision I make is rooted in a desire to serve Him and live out His purpose for my life. From an early age, my faith taught me the importance of giving back. I have volunteered in various capacities, including at food banks and the Storehouse Food Pantry for Cornerstone Christian Center. These experiences instilled in me the values of compassion and service, emphasizing that as Christians, we are called to care for our communities. When I am home, attending church on Sundays and Wednesdays serves as a grounding practice that reinforces my commitment to living a life of purpose and humility. One promise I have made to God and to myself is to dedicate a portion of my financial success to my church. This commitment stems from gratitude for the role faith has played in shaping the man I am today. I see this contribution as a way of sowing into the community that has nurtured me spiritually and as a means to further God’s work. As I pursue my goals in real estate and business as an entrepreneur, I am particularly passionate about addressing financial literacy within the Christian community. My mentor, whom I met through my mother when she was still actively in my life, has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of finances and investing. He took me under his wing, inviting me for coffee and on trips where he poured wisdom into me. His guidance has inspired me to carry on his legacy. Recognizing that he is nearing retirement, I intend to follow in his footsteps, not just by teaching financial literacy but also by personally mentoring young individuals as he did for me. My vision extends beyond my home church; I aspire to bring financial literacy and investing lessons to other churches as well. By equipping Christians with the knowledge and tools to manage their resources wisely, I believe we can empower our communities to thrive and prosper. When we succeed collectively, we are better positioned to spread the gospel of Jesus and ensure no one is left wanting for resources. Overcoming challenges has been a significant part of my journey, and faith has been my anchor throughout. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed by the weight of expectations or uncertain about my path. In those times, prayer and trust in God’s plan provided clarity and strength. Triumphs, too, have been opportunities to give glory to God, acknowledging that every success is a testament to His faithfulness. My future aspirations are deeply intertwined with my faith. Beyond contributing financially to my church and continuing the work of my mentor, I am committed to fostering a culture of generosity and stewardship within the Christian community. I envision a network of churches offering financial education programs, creating a ripple effect that extends God’s blessings far and wide. By enabling others to achieve financial stability and success, we pave the way for more impactful ministry work and global outreach efforts. Ultimately, my faith is not just a personal belief but a guiding force that shapes my actions and aspirations. It reminds me that true success is measured not by material wealth but by the lives we touch and the legacy we leave behind.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Experiencing a life-altering accident earlier this year in the middle of my school semester, was a pivotal moment that profoundly reshaped my perspective on mental health, goals, and relationships. It was an ordinary day when, through unfortunate circumstances, my life was dramatically transformed. I suddenly found myself in a place of profound vulnerability after breaking both of my wrists! Losing the ability to perform even the simplest tasks was not just physically challenging—it was mentally devastating. I needed nurses to assist with basic needs like showering and eating, and my autonomy vanished in an instant. This experience left me feeling like a shell of my former self, grappling with an overwhelming sense of loss and helplessness. The impact on my mental health was immediate and severe, leaving me at what felt like the lowest point in my life. I found myself wrestling with feelings of worthlessness and despair, as the accident stripped away the independence I once took for granted. The accident not only damaged my body but also shattered my sense of self-worth. Activities that had once been second nature now required the assistance of others, which was a humbling and often humiliating experience. The physical pain was accompanied by emotional turmoil, as I struggled to come to terms with my new reality and the limitations imposed upon me. It was the lowest point of my life, and I struggled to find hope in the midst of it. Compounding this was the lack of support from my school, which failed to provide the accommodations and understanding I desperately needed. Rather than receiving empathy and assistance, I was left to navigate academic challenges alone, adding another layer of stress to an already overwhelming situation. This lack of institutional support was disheartening, reinforcing feelings of isolation and frustration. In contrast, my therapists, my family, and my church community emerged as my unwavering pillars of strength, providing the emotional and practical support I needed to slowly rebuild my life. Their encouragement and love were invaluable, reminding me that I was not alone in my struggle. My family members rearranged their lives to help me manage daily tasks, and my church community offered prayers, visits, and a sense of belonging that was crucial during my recovery. Through this journey, I learned profound lessons about resilience and the power of community. My goals have evolved to include advocating for better support systems for those facing similar challenges, and recognizing that not everyone has access to such a supportive network. This experience inspired a newfound determination to ensure that others do not feel as isolated or unsupported as I once did. I became passionate about raising awareness for the need for comprehensive mental health support, particularly for those dealing with sudden disabilities or significant life changes. My relationships have deepened, as I now appreciate the value of empathy and kindness more than ever. The accident taught me to cherish the people in my life in general, and even more so the people who stood by me during my darkest times. I have become more attuned to the struggles of others, understanding that everyone carries their own burdens and that a little kindness can make a profound difference. This has enriched my interactions with others, fostering a deeper sense of connection and compassion. This experience has also broadened my understanding of the world, highlighting the importance of compassion and resilience in the face of adversity. I have learned that while life's challenges can be harsh and unexpected, they also offer opportunities for personal growth and transformation. The accident forced me to reevaluate my priorities, leading to a more focused and meaningful pursuit of my dreams. While I never imagined myself in such a vulnerable position, this journey has taught me invaluable lessons about strength and recovery. It has shown me that while we cannot always control what happens to us, we can choose how we respond. I am determined to use these insights to inspire others and advocate for change, ensuring that no one feels as isolated or unsupported as I did. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I simply just felt alone, even with others around me, as others went about their summer activities in normalcy. While I had to be cooped up in recovery at home. In the end, the accident that initially felt like it had shattered my life has become a catalyst for a deeper understanding of myself and my place in the world. It has fueled a commitment to help others find strength in adversity, empowering them to rise above their challenges. By sharing my story and working towards systemic change, I hope to make a positive impact, turning my personal tragedy into a force for good. My journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of community and compassion.

This incredible organization offers invaluable exposure to the business and finance worlds, equipping me with professional realm navigation skills and confidence. The hands-on experience and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping my aspirations and preparing me for future opportunities. I view this involvement as a stepping stone toward achieving my ultimate goal of supporting my family and contributing positively to my community. Education in my opinion is an indispensable pillar of personal and professional growth. It equips individuals with the tools necessary to analyze, understand, and engage with the world around them. This essay explores why education is important and how it has brought value to my life, specifically through critical thinking, cultural awareness, career advancement, and continuous learning. One of the most significant benefits of my high school education was the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills have proven invaluable in both my personal and professional life. For example, when I was a high school cadet volunteer with the Sea Cadets and Civil Air Patrol, I was often faced with challenging situations that required quick thinking and effective problem-solving. These experiences honed my ability to analyze complex problems, consider multiple perspectives, and develop well-reasoned solutions. This foundation has been essential in my role as the CEO of my startup marketing firm, where every decision required careful analysis and strategic thinking. Pursuing a college degree at the University of Hartford has significantly broadened my perspective. Engaging with diverse ideas and cultures has helped shape my worldview and fostered a deeper understanding of the global community. For instance, during my internship with Apple Incorporated, I had the opportunity to work with a team of international professionals. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is the one book I would choose for every person to read. This book offers timeless wisdom on personal finances and financial freedom. It explains why having a successful career does not necessarily mean you will be wealthy, and how building a strong financial foundation is critical for achieving both long-term monetary success and peace of mind. The book's narrative follows Robert Kiyosaki as he moves from his childhood in Hawaii to adulthood in California trying to understand the difference between Rich Dad (his father's best friend) and Poor Dad (his real father). Throughout the story, we learn how different mindsets shape our approach to money: what it means, how we should use it, where it comes from, and more. We are also introduced to the Cashflow Quadrant, which explains how different types of people generate money and how to use that knowledge for our own financial benefit. The core message of Rich Dad Poor Dad is that traditional education often fails to prepare us for managing our finances in adulthood. It encourages readers to think beyond their ability to earn a paycheck and develop other sources of income. It also helps readers understand the importance of separating their emotions from money decisions, taking risks, and having a long-term perspective when it comes to building wealth. In addition, it gives practical advice on investing in assets rather than liabilities, such as real estate and stocks, understanding taxes and insurance, starting businesses, and more. Overall, Rich Dad Poor Dad is an incredibly insightful book that can help anyone improve their financial literacy and eventually become financially free. It provides readers with a better understanding of how to use money wisely, build wealth over time, and ultimately create a secure future for themselves. Therefore, that is why I believe this book should be required reading for everyone!

"In the world of business, the people who are most successful are those who are doing what they love." – Warren Buffett I've chosen to pursue a career in digital marketing because it allows me to combine my creative talents with my business acumen. My ideal future role would be one where I'm able to use both my analytical and creative skills in order to create effective marketing campaigns for my clients. This role would involve researching and analyzing my target market, crafting strategies to reach this audience, executing those strategies, tracking their performance, and then measuring the results. In terms of my ideal industry, I am most passionate about working with non-profit organizations. I believe strongly in giving back to our communities and making a positive difference in people's lives. I also have a strong desire to help businesses grow, so working with a non-profit organization would allow me to reach both of those goals. As a college marketing major, some specific ways in which I plan to use my educational accomplishments to better my community include: Working with local businesses to help them grow, by using the tools that they already have using innovative marketing strategies to get 1-time customers to become repeat customers; and Working with local non-profit organizations to help them with their marketing efforts. Too often, these organizations rely on volunteers who are not experienced in marketing and advertising. As a result, they miss out on opportunities to be more effective, reach a wider audience, and raise more money for their cause. In terms of an ideal company, I would like to be an entrepreneur and run my own agency. I want to be able to work with various clients, craft marketing strategies and tactics that are tailored to each individual client's needs, as well as provide them with a detailed analysis of their campaigns' performance. Having my own agency also gives me the freedom to choose which projects and clients I take on, so that I can continue to be passionate about the work I'm doing. With this type of career, I believe I will be able to make a difference in people's lives and help businesses grow at the same time. I also want to have the experience to hire other professionals to help me with marketing strategies and tactics. All of these factors combined make digital marketing a career path that I am excited to pursue. One of my dreams in life has been to be a pillar in my community, providing jobs and resources to those in need. This career path will not only provide me with a great opportunity to make a difference, but also allow me to pursue my dreams and succeed. In conclusion, digital marketing has been a passion of mine for a long time. I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue my career in this field. As stated, my ideal future role would involve using both my creative and technical skills to create next-level campaigns for my clients to keep them ahead of the game, while also giving back to my community by working with many of the non-profits which I grew up playing and learning in their facilities. My ideal company to work for would be my own marketing agency, where I can choose the projects and clients with whom I work and build a family culture among my employees. I'm looking forward to what the future holds and I am certain that digital marketing is where I'm meant to make a difference! Would you support me in this journey?

Don't let someone else's fast progress, make you feel bad about your slow progress! YOU are your ONLY competition! After all the seeding, tilling, and watering, fruit... is the last thing to come on a tree! Remember that! Many times, as students, we get overwhelmed with what other people are doing and achieving... running their own race. Sometimes, to the detriment of running our own race... as God intends us to do. Some fruits are even forced... and see how quickly those die or how lacking in real nutrient they are!!! We all don't have to bloom at the same time, and we are uniquely qualified and equipped to run our own race, and fulfill our unique destiny for our lives. Does that mean that we should be lazy and complacent?? Not at all. But it means that we should live our lives trying to be better than our own selves yesterday, last week, last month, last year.... not the "photo-shopped" outside version of people that we normally see on the outside. We are AALLL struggling with something... after all!

Credit and its responsible use, is an important lesson that we can all master - especially as young people who are starting out our economic lives. Firstly, I have already applied for a college credit card that is geared specifically to help me to build my credit - a small credit limit at this point, which is fine… to help me to learn to manage small amounts until I can be trusted with a bigger limit. Then, I make sure to pay my bill on time on a monthly basis - to ensure that my credit is being built up responsibly. I then charge something small on a monthly basis, in order to ensure that the credit bureaus are being told that my card is being used. So I’m responsibly managing my credit card. I intend to diversify my credit opportunities to build a solid credit score over my life. If necessary, I’ll apply for a student loan to diversify my types of credit. To get better loan opportunities in the future, it’s important to use credit as a tool to build my financial future responsibly, using it to improve my credit score - not as a way to rack up debt I can’t pay off. Credit is something that I've been working on building for a while - beginning with becoming an authorized user on a family member’s card. I've gotten authorized user credit cards, I've made sure to pay my bills on time, and I've generally tried to use credit responsibly. I’m now also monitoring my credit score monthly, watching it gradually rise over time… Of course, this is one of the places where age is a beauty. The longer the credit, the better my score! I hope to build my credit responsibly for a long time!!!
