Helping others is something I believe is essential to being humans, we're social animals, it's in our DNA. Not only helping each other, but in general; cleaning trash, volunteering at animals shelters. There are people in need, and we shouldn't ever forget about them; but sometimes we need to focus on the world we live in as well. Personally I've assisted in lots of school events, thrift stores, and previously mentioned animal shelter. During the summer I help build habitat for fish in our rivers, which is greatly appreciated by Anglers. Keeping the world around us beautiful and lively is critical for our future, activities like Camping, Hiking and others are great ways to separate ourselves from the rapidly encroaching online environment; This is why I'm perusing a degree in Biology.
To get this degree scholarships are essential, I've applied to many and will continue to up to the day I go to college. I don't come from a rich family by any means, my mother and father separated shortly after my birth, and I have chosen to live with my father. He makes enough money to get by, but certainly falls snugly into the lower-middle class. Paying for college won't be impossible, but surely a challenge.
Online bullying is something that is often glossed over, but as youth are spending more and more time online, it's becoming more ingrained into their livelihood. Because of this the "just ignore it" argument doesn't work any more, kids shouldn't be expected to just "suck it up". The root to most solutions is education, and the Cyber Bullying epidemic is no different. Unlike real life bullying, Cyber Bullying doesn't necessarily mean anything about the persons home environment or mental state. People who wouldn't normally dare to even speak up to someone thrive behind the shield a screen provides. Anonymity allows anyone to say anything largely without big consequences, this enables bullying. Simply calling out the bully is sometimes enough for them to back off, educating the bully is often difficult, especially if you're not in a position of authority. Educating the one being bullied, however, is the #1 solution to online bullying. Teaching children to not react to Cyber bullies, to not enable them, will mean Cyber Bullied are no longer rewarded with a fight. Parenting is also essential to keeping children safe on the internet, parents need to monitor their kids internet activity, to keep them from bullying others; but also from finding harmful things that have become increasingly accessible. Kids knowing more about the internet than their parents is a recipe for disaster, and we're already seeing the effects.
