My name is Riley Little, and I am a high school senior in Beaumont, Texas. I have lived here my whole life and feel very connected to my community. I have always enjoyed seeing the community here excel and do well. I go out and do service every year and enjoy myself. I have experienced multiple hurricanes in addition to the coronavirus pandemic in the past five years. Through all these disasters and events, I have been able to go out into my community and work to improve it. Hurricane Harvey had a devastating impact here. Once it passed, I went into the community multiple days a week and helped unload 18-wheelers full of supplies and pass them out to people who needed them. Along with that, I went to stores and family owned business and helped with any projects they had. I was able to do this for weeks after Hurricane Harvey. I helped out at my high school too. Many classmates and I came to Kelly High School and moved furniture, ripped out carpets, painted, and did many other projects. I was able to help transform the school back to its original state and have it in good conditions again. I did this again after Tropical Storm Imelda. I retook the opportunity to go into my community and help it recover from the rain and flooding. I love going into my community and seeing that my help and work improve it and make it better. I have also volunteered time at our local soup kitchen and other nonprofits. I always want to be able to help my community, no matter where I live. As a doctor, I will be able to help people every day of my life. Through my career as an orthopedic surgeon, I will be able to help people in my community, close and far, with their pain and injuries. My job will be to diagnose people with injuries. I will be able to explain to them what happened and how to make their healing process go as smoothly as possible. I will perform surgeries and operations that help my patients with their pain. Being able to help people heal and feel no more pain will be a dream come true. I will be able to help people every day. I always help out in my community when I can. Helping those around you only benefits the area you live in.
