Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
As a high-performing athlete dedicated to the sport of rowing, I devote nearly twenty hours each week to rigorous training. This demanding schedule necessitates waking up at four o'clock every morning to begin on a thirty-minute journey to practice, where I engage in intensive workouts for two hours before returning home to tackle my online schoolwork. Despite the physical and mental toll this routine exacts, I remain steadfast in my commitment to excellence.
Maintaining a healthy balance between athletics, academics, and mental well-being is crucial. To preserve my mental health amidst the demands of training and schooling, I prioritize self-care practices such as maintaining a nutritious diet, ensuring adequate rest, and staying organized to avoid falling behind in my school work. However, the challenges of maintaining this equilibrium are profound, and I often find myself grappling with feelings of isolation and overwhelm.
Furthermore, as a product of twelve years of homeschooling through online classes, I am intimately familiar with the potential drawbacks of limited socialization. The temptation to succumb to distractions, particularly the allure of my comfortable bed during virtual learning sessions, is a constant struggle. In response, I actively engage in a variety of extracurricular activities, including rowing, involvement in my church youth group, tutoring, and volunteering. These endeavors not only provide me with a sense of connection and purpose but also serve as vital outlets for personal growth and social interaction.
My journey thus far has been one of resilience and determination, marked by the pursuit of excellence in both athletics and academics. Despite the challenges I have faced, I remain unwavering in my commitment to inspire others facing similar obstacles. In the future, I aspire to leverage my experiences to advocate for the importance of community involvement and social connection in promoting holistic well-being, particularly among students navigating the complexities of homeschooling. Through my endeavors, I seek to empower others to embrace their unique journeys and pursue their passions with confidence and resilience.
Colonial Italian American Organization Donor Scholarship
Italian heritage runs deep within my family's narrative, rooted in the courageous journey of my immigrant ancestors who transplanted their cultural identity onto American soil. Among them, my great-grandfather, Charles Triolo, stands tall as a beacon of inspiration. Arriving in America during the late 19th century, he embodied the quintessential tale of a first-generation scholar, pursuing a doctorate in education alongside studies in business administration and science at New York University and Paltz State Teachers College. Charles, a man of vision and ingenuity, leveraged his educational prowess to carve out his own slice of the American dream, founding a beloved Italian restaurant in New York City that became renowned for its delectable array of traditional dishes, notably pizza. Yet, beyond the realm of culinary delights, he also served as a dedicated mathematics educator and principled school administrator, devoting his life to nurturing young minds and fostering academic excellence. His journey, marked by resilience and determination in the face of uncertainty, serves as a poignant reminder of the boundless opportunities that await those who dare to dream.
Motivated by the enduring legacy of my great-grandfather, I embark on my collegiate odyssey at Christendom College with a steadfast resolve to honor his memory. Opting to pursue a major in mathematics, I am drawn not only to its inherent logic but also to the mesmerizing patterns that lie beneath its surface. Intriguingly, my fascination extends to the precise mathematics woven into the architectural marvels of ancient Rome, a passion that finds fertile ground at Christendom College, where the opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant culture of Rome awaits.
Anticipating a future defined by service and duty, I aspire to follow in the footsteps of my father, a distinguished naval helicopter pilot whose selfless dedication to country and honor has left an indelible mark upon my conscience. It is with profound reverence and a sense of duty that I aim to become a naval aviator, safeguarding the freedoms we hold dear with each flight. Armed with a degree in mathematics, I envision a career trajectory that transcends the confines of convention, seamlessly melding my passion for engineering with a fervent desire to effect positive change. Post-military service, I aspire to pursue advanced studies in mechanical engineering, with an interest in leveraging emerging technologies to engineer greener, more sustainable automotive solutions. By studying eco-conscious engineering, I endeavor to play a pivotal role in combating climate change, thereby safeguarding the sanctity of our planet for generations to come.
In essence, my journey is a testament to the enduring spirit of perseverance and the transformative power of education. Guided by the timeless values instilled by my ancestors and fueled by a passionate desire to effect meaningful change, I stride forward with unwavering resolve, ready to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and to leave an indelible mark upon the world.
