Education is the key to unlocking an endless road of opportunities. Without it, you’ll never achieve your greatest potential. Education can only enrichen and increase your understanding and knowledge. To me, education helps you become a better person by giving you wisdom so not only are you doing yourself a favor but also to people around you.
From a young age, I was taught to appreciate the importance of learning which in turn gave me a passion to learn and to push myself academically. It even motivated me to join Academic Decathlon; a class devoted to challenging a student’s proficiency in various subjects. Having an education is truly a gift that no one can take from you. Since my parents didn’t get the chance to pursue their careers, they always encourage me to pick a profession that fulfills my passion. Like many people the question “What do you be when you grow up?” became challenging to answer.
My career choice fluctuated from being a chef to an interior designer all the way to a professional softball player but nothing really filled that void. But my choice suddenly became clear when my mom told me the news; she had skin cancer. It was like a fireworks lit inside me telling me to join the medical field but more specifically dermatology. A dermatologist is a doctor specializing in skin, hair, and nail conditions, that collaborates with patients to improve their skin quality. The medical field is vast, so I explored other specialties like pediatrics, orthopedics, neurology, nursing, etc. but everything leads me back to dermatology. They improve the quality of life for many people; improving their self-esteem by treating acne or eczema which is something that my mom and I struggled with. The journey of becoming a doctor is long and stressful but I'm absolutely determined to achieve that goal. Being a doctor is very rewarding, seeing your patients improve and ultimately recuperate; the real prize of becoming a doctor or nurse is seeing your patient make a full recovery.
I aspire to give back to my community as a dermatologist by offering scholarships and by donating to schools which is where the early phases of our education are cultivated. Most people these days don't appreciate the doorways an education allows you to open; you can go as far as to travel or network with potential mentors at no expense, just because of your academic achievements. Having an education is a fundamental factor you need, to be equipped for the world's challenges.
