I am currently a sophomore in college trying to achieve my goal of becoming a fighter pilot in the Air Force. I graduated high school with a variety of certifications such as being a certified medical assistant, phlebotomist, and EKG technician. I am also a first generation college student working very hard to make my family proud. Currently on campus I am apart of some organizations and have even held some positions on their e-boards. Some of these organizations are The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, Caribbean Student Association, Women in Engineering, as well as Florida Caribbean Student Association. I have held the position of public relations officer for The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, and am currently holding the position of secretary for the Florida Caribbean Student Association. I have my own non-profit organization Bright Lights Crossing Borders. I am a well rounded individual who is striving to become the pilot that I have always dreamed to be.

I will be the first of my deceased mother to go to college. I wanted a career in Aviation and in order to achieve this goal I know that I would need secondary education to achieve it. My goal is to become a fighter pilot in the US Military Services in the Air Force. I want to be the best at the career path that I choose and education is a start in meeting this goal. To prepare myself, I joined the Civil Air Patrol when I was in high school to get familiar with the aviation field. While COVID-19 hit during my time in the program I was always trying to keep up with aviation and attend the meetings, etc. In preparing myself for school, I had to get myself emotionally and mentally prepared to be away from home as I attended school. One of the biggest challenges is the financial constraints. Coming from a family where my parents made a lot of financial sacrifices to afford tuition, books, and other necessary supplies I have to make sure that I put my goal first above all other things going to college has to offer. While I got a few scholarships, I'm still struggling to make ends meet and am constantly worried about being able to finish my degree without going into debt. In addition, I have to work
to assist with paying for college as my parents have exhausted all of their savings and I have mine, which can make it difficult to focus on my studies. It’s a challenge, but I’m determined to make it through and get my degree.
The other challenge I face is being away from home I do not have the immediate support that I would get from family and friends. This can be discouraging and isolating at times. In the beginning, I suffered from emotional and mental stress; feeling that I was going to fail and not having my family close by that I could go to for the encouragement needed that I was doing ok. While I went through this, after speaking with my parents they encouraged me by letting me know that I was not a failure and they would not be disappointed if I had to take a different route if it came to that in the end. This was a load lifted off my shoulders because I knew they were counting on me to succeed. But to know that no matter what they were always be their to support me made me more willing than ever to achieve my goal. It wasn't easy but I made it over what I consider the first hurdle to adjusting to life in college and away from home.
I’m determined to make it through and get my degree.

I have faced adversity ever since I have been born, I know that might sound cliché but I truly believe that my life has not been an easy one compared to others. When I was just three months old my mom was in a terrible situation where her so-called boyfriend was using her and had us sleeping on the streets. This was not the ideal place for an infant to be so my mother made the ultimate decision to drop me off at my great-grandmother’s house and tell her that she would be back to get me. Even though in reality my mother was not coming back to get me. When I learned about this I resented her for a time because how could she just give up her child like that for her boyfriend? After a few days passed and it became evident that my mother was not coming back for me. My great-grandma called my grandma to come pick me up because she could not financially take care of me. My grandma not wanting me to end up in foster care came and picked me up and moved me down to Florida with her and my grandpa.
Years passed without seeing my mother or hearing her voice the unavoidable happened I had forgotten the most important details about her except for what she looked like. I can count on one hand how many times I remember being in her presence and that is a whopping two times. On our last visit, she had promised me that she was getting her life back under control and that she would come to get me and we would live together just the two of us. But unfortunately, when I was nine she was killed by a drunk driver. When this happened my whole world came to an end even though I did not know her like that she was still my mother. From then on and into my teen years I struggled with suicide and finding what my purpose in life was without my mother.
One day I became inspired to create a non-profit organization called Bright Lights Crossing Borders to help children and senior citizens who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, and who live in foster homes. To know that someone still cares about them and that can understand the situation that they are going through. I created my organization to honor my mother as well as channel all my negative energy into something good and meaningful full not just to me but to my community. I have helped organize fundraisers and donation drives to help get school supplies as well as food and clothing. For my community as well as the community I have overseas in the caribbean. Founding this organization helped me a lot through my teen years and continues to help and motivate me when I am going through a rough patch in life. I love helping my community and will continue even as I graduate and become an adult in my career. Through this organization, I have overcome my adversity as well as helped my communities mentally, emotionally, and physically now and in the future generations to come.

y dream is to become a fighter pilot in the US Armed Forces. At the age of three my biological mom had to give me to my grandparents to take care of me because she was not able to do so since she had become homeless due to extenuating circumstances beyond her control. Unfortunately, in August 2015 at age 9, my mother passed away at the age of 28 due to a hit and run car accident by a drunk driver. No financial means had been setup for me by her. My grandparents told me this devastating news it was hard for me to comprehend why she was just taken from me for no reason. For the next few years, it was hard growing up without my mother and not being able to just call and talk to her when I needed her or just to tell her I miss her. While in middle school I joined a mentoring organization where I learned the importance of being independent, self-sufficient and a positive role model in society. I have read many books on self help, planes, etc. These increased my interest in Aviation and how I could help protect my community and country by being a pilot in the US Armed Forces.
As a dedication to my mother, I started a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders to help other children in our community and around the world who have lost their parents and senior citizens who are alone. The organization has helped children and senior citizens by donating care packets, clothing, etc. We have also provide aid to families who have suffered losses due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, COVID-19, etc. locally and abroad.
In the11th grade is when I made the final decision I wanted to be a pilot in the US Armed Forces. as a result of attending at an Air & Sea Show in Fort Lauderdale. While at the show I had the opportunity to speak with a Leader in the US Air Force Auxiliary program, Civil Air Patrol, which I gained information which influenced me to look further into a career in Aviation and joined the Civil Air Patrol program which I’m currently Senior Airman Cadet. My love for flying continues to grow for becoming a pilot in the US Armed forces. I can keep my promise to myself to always help my community, and protect my country. I have always been taught that once I make a commitment to must stick to it and see it through to the end. There’s no such thing as I can’t do it or quitting. I know its going to take focus and dedication to achieve my goal.
My senior year, I really began learning more about aviation. I still wanted to help people and will continue to be an active participant in my organization. I graduated high school as a certified EKG Technician, Phlebotomist and a Registered Medical Assistant. The feeling I get from helping others makes me feel special because my story may have started out unfortunate but I choose to turn it around and use it to do great things.
I was accepted at four different schools, however, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has the major I wanted to pursue Aeronautical Sciences and the US Air Force ROTC. It’s my goal to participate in the program while I’m working obtaining my bachelor’s degree and join the US Armed Forces as an Officer to continue my goal of becoming a fighter pilot and long term goal of becoming a member of the US Navy Blue Angel pilots.

In order to live a long and healthy life, one must first learn who they are and take care of themselves first. You are no good to others if you are not in good health mentally, emotionally and physically. I try to make sure that I have some type of physical and mental activity in my daily life. If it means excersizing daily and taking a few minutes to rest my mind. It's very easy in todays society to become overloaded mentally and phsyically because the world teaches you must go, go and go. Prayer and meditation can also give you a since of peace mentally and emotionally.
Balance in life is important for overall success. To be balance in life we must think about the spiritual side as well as the other areas of our life. Having peace, love and joy in your life can cause a positive effect on our well being. How can we achieve a healthy lifestyle by the way we treat others. Typically, if you are kind to others they will be kind to you. Love and respect for others gives you a sense of caring even though it may not be shown back to you.
We must work to build up our minds by educating ourselves with knowledge that is positive and gives us an understanding on how life works and how we can achieve our goals.
We can learn by being kind to others, helping others without expecting anyting in return. Do for othes from the heart.

In August 2015 at age 9, my mother passed away at age of 28 due to a hit and run car accident by a drunk driver. The news was devastating and hard to comprehend. The following year was hard because I had to go to trial and listen to the lady that killed my mom say that she was too intoxicated to remember if she had hit something or someone. It was hurtful listening to her attorney plead for the judge not give her any jail time because she had a baby and she had no remorse for her actions.
Instead of letting it depressed me and cause negative reactions in my behavior, etc., as a dedication to my mother, I started a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders, Inc. to help children and senior citizens who have been abused, neglected, or who live in foster homes and families who have suffered losses due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, etc. by donating care packets, clothing, etc.

Bold Patience Matters Scholarship
I been through good and times in my lifetime. I lost my mom at an early age. As a result, I was very impatient because I felt as if I was alone and had noone. I sometimes I would ask myself what do I hve to live for because of feeling alone. But I did have a reason to live and someone who loved me my grandparents.
However, living with my grandparents taught me that with patience anything can happen. I was away for the summer visiting other family members. I was unaware that my grandparents had already started the process of adopting me after my mom passed away. They did not want me to feel alone and wanted to make sure I was taken care of and in a stable environment. When the adoption was made final and they told surprised me with the good news. I can not begin to describe the feeling had because it brought about joy I had never felt before. I think that had I not been patient and began to be rebellious or cause problems from them who knows what would have happened to me or where I would be today.
Because they loved me they gave me stability, peace and love that I can not imagine not having in my life. This taught me that patience can give you things you would never think you would have and also give you peace in your life.
Throughout the years I have watch how patient my grandmother is and because of it she accomplishes things quickly and quite often more than she expected. I heard others say to her thank you for your patience. So being patient can help in achieving goals and being successful.
Bold Growth Mindset Scholarship
I rely on study and life experiences to keep me on track with growth mindset. In order to achieve my goals and ambitions, we cannot stay stagnet in our lives. We must continue to learn via studying, research, experience and learning from others.
We can obtain knowledge on how to be successful even when things get tough. We continue to grow and improve our thinking when we learn what caused the mistake and how to prevent them from happening again. By learning what strategies works best will help me achieve the goals that I set and increase my knowledge and understanding on a process that I can put in place and prepare for any obstacles that may come up along the way.
The other way of achieving growth is through experience and guidance from others who have taken and experience the path that I'm taking. They can provide experiences (good and bad), things to be aware of and provide guidance to resources that I may not be aware of.
Of course there are all sorts of literature available for reading, watching, etc. that can give me knowledge that others have documented via history or current events.
In order to be successful in life in general we must have the mindset that growth is a continous cycle and we must be aware that we can always grow in every aspect of our lives as long as we have an open mind and willing to learn.

During the experience, I felt very proud of myself because the senior citizens had pulled me to the side and told me that they felt cared for because not a lot of young people go out of their way to help them.

Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
Helping others even though you feel that you are at your lowest point in your life can help you to see that sharing with others bring you a sense of satisfaction and belonging.
I experienced this first hand when I lost my mother at the age of nine to a hit and run accident by a drunk driver. It was a hard adjustment to make not understanding why she had been taken from me so soon. It was especially hard when I had to go to court and sit and listen to the person causing the accident talk as if she had no remorse and say she hit something but didn't know if it was an animal or a person. She took away the most important person in my life, my mother. I was fortunate that my grandparents adopted me right away so that I wouldn't feel alone or like I didn't belong to anyone.
I decided toTo show generosity to other children who have lost a parent, been abandoned, neglected, etc and senior citizens who are alone as a dedication to my mother because she was a generous person and what give you whatever she could. To give back to my community and I formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization called Bright Lights Crossing Borders to provide assistance with basic needs such as clothing, school supplies, etc. to children and senior citizens. We also assisted families who have experienced a loss due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, pandemic a, etc. As of today we have provided donations to hurricane victims, back-to-school drives, toiletry kits and medical equipment to senior citizens, etc. throughout the community and abroad. This has given me great satisfaction to be able to show others they are important and cared for despite the hardships they experienced.

The hurtful part was that her attorney pleaded for the judge to not give her any jail time because she had to take care of her baby; fact that she had killed my mom and had no remorse for her actions. Instead of her being home taking care of the baby, she was out getting drunk and driving without a care in the world for anyone else. For the next few years, it was hard growing up without my mother and not being able to just call and talk to her when I needed her or just to tell her I miss her.
When I got into high school as a dedication to my mother. I found a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders. Markforged Distinguished Women Engineers Grant
A $3,000 scholarship for my education will make a difference in my life by taking some of the burden off my grandparents who were trying to save up enough money for me to be able to pay for my college tuition. When I was born my biological mother could not take care of me so my grandparents decided that they would adopt me. Since this decision, I have become a financial burden for them because my mother did not leave any money for them to take care of me. At the age of nine, she died in a hit and run by a drunk driver this was a huge financial strain for my grandparents because now they had to deal with funeral costs. I also have two older stepsisters that my grandparents had to put through college. They also had to help them out of pocket for their transportation and housing. All of this has made it hard for them to save up funds to send me to the college of my dream so that I can become an aviator in the US Navy.
I have been accepted into the Aeronautical Science Engineering Program at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona, FL. As part of the flight program, I have to pay for the flying lessons. This is an extra $4,000 or more in addition to the cost that I have to pay outside of tuition, etc. This scholarship would help pay for these lessons as I pursue becoming an flight pilot as part of my education degree prior to joining the US Navy.
If I win this scholarship it will help with taking some of the financial burdens off my grandparents as well.
I Am Third Scholarship
When I got into high school I told my grandma that I wanted to start an organization to help other children in our community and around the world who have lost their parents and senior citizens who are alone. She thought that it was a brilliant idea so after much paperwork, I become the founder of Bright Lights Crossing Borders, Inc. With the organization I am able to help children and senior citizens who have been abused, neglected, or who live in foster homes by donating care packets, clothing, and other necessities. I also wanted to provide aid to families who have suffered losses due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, fires, and etc. So far the organization has made donations to the children’s and senior citizen homes in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. We have held a back to school fair for families in need by given out pre-packed backpacks which contained a notebook, folders, pencils, crayons, binder, ruler, sharpener, binder paper, and other supplies. I gave out care packets and played games with the elderly at a daycare. During the experience, I felt very proud of myself because the senior citizens had pulled me to the side and told me that they felt cared for because not a lot of young people go out of their way to help them.
In my 11th grade year of high school is when I decided I wanted to be a pilot in the Navy. What really confirmed this for me was my attendance at an Air & Sea Show in Fort Lauderdale. Watching the pilots performed, etc. While at the show I had the opportunity to speak with a Leader in the US Air Force Auxiliary program Civil Air Patrol which I was gained information that caused me to look further into the career in Aviation. I eventually joined the Civil Air Patrol program which I’m currently Airman Cadet. My love for flying continues to grow and this is where I decided I definitely wanted to become a fighter pilot in the US Navy and work towards ultimately becoming one of the Blue Angels in the US Navy.
Now that I am a senior in high school my grandparents have been asking me what I want my career path to be and I still want to help out as many people who are in need so I will continue to be an active participant in my organization, but I also want to become a fighter pilot in the US Navy so that I can uphold my promise to myself to always help my community, and country. The feeling I get from helping others makes me feel special because my story may have started out unfortunate but I choose to turn it around and use it to do great things.

Unfortunately, in August 2015 at age 9, my mother passed away due to a hit and run car accident by a drunk driver. When my grandparents told me this devastating news it was hard for me to comprehend why she was just taken from me for no reason. The following year was hard for because I had to go to trial with and listen to the lady that killed my mom say that she was too intoxicated to remember if she had hit something or someone.
When I got into high school I told my grandma as a dedication to my mother, I wanted to start a nonprofit organization to help other children in our community and around the world who have lost their parents and senior citizens who are alone. I found a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders, Inc. The organization has helped children and senior citizens who have been abused, neglected, or who live in foster homes by donating care packets, clothing, and other necessities. I also wanted to provide aid to families who have suffered losses due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, fires, etc. The organization has made donations to the children’s and senior citizen homes in Freeport, Grand Bahamas; held back to school fairs donating pre-filled backpacks, other supplies and care packets. We spent a day at a senior citizen day care donating care packets and playing games with them. During the experience, I felt very proud of myself because the senior citizens had pulled me to the side and told me that they felt cared for because not a lot of young people go out of their way to help them.
In the11th grade is when I decided I wanted to be a pilot in the Navy. What really confirmed this for me was my attendance at an Air & Sea Show in Fort Lauderdale. While at the show I had the opportunity to speak with a Leader in the US Air Force Auxiliary program, Civil Air Patrol which I gained information which influenced me to look further into a career in Aviation. I joined the Civil Air Patrol program which I’m currently Senior Airman Cadet. My love for flying continues to grow and this is where I decided I my career goal to become a fighter pilot in the US Navy and work towards becoming one of the Blue Angels in the US Navy so that I can uphold my promise to myself to always help my community, and country.

At the age of 9 my mother passed away due to a hit and run car accident by a drunk driver when she was crossing the road to get something to eat, when my grandparents told me this devastating news it was hard for me to comprehend why she was just taken from me for no reason. For the next few years, it was hard growing up without my mother.
My grandparents immediately started the process to adopt me to ensure that I did not feel alone and isolated. My biggest influence is my grandmother. She has basically put her life on pause to care for me and make sure that I grew up with a solid foundation, good morals and beliefs. She has taught me how to be a positive young lady; be honest and firm but yet caring to others; when you do for others do it from the heart, and not to expect anything in return. My grandmother has given me the privilege of traveling at a very early age. We travel using various means of transportation. The transportation mode that I enjoyed the most is flying. Which is the reason I have chosen a career of Aviation.
When I got into high school I told my grandma I wanted to start an organization to help children in our community and around the world who have lost their parents and senior citizens who are alone. Due to the current pandemic, a halt has been put on large, in-person protests, but we all must take precautions to prevent spreading the virus further. You can still make your voice heard by participating in virtual social justice events in every major U.S. city which you can use your public speaking skills, which you’ll need to become a social justice leader that motivates others. But remember while attending these events in person, always maintain safety precautions: wear a mask at all times and keep your distance.
You can contribute to the efforts to improve social injustice by volunteering. Volunteering can be done in many forms, depending upon your availability. There are plenty of websites online which can provide information on volunteer opportunities that align with your interests. Unfortunately, in August 2015 at age 9, my mother passed away due to a hit and run car accident by a drunk driver while walking on her way to get dinner for herself. The driver of the vehicle hit her so hard she was repelled over 5 feet into the air. The driver left the scene of the accident failing to stop and see what and if she hit someone or render aide. The driver was a teenager who had been drinking. I was on summer vacation with other family members when my grandparents told me this devastating news it was hard for me to comprehend why she was just taken from me for no reason. I never got to see before she passed away three days after the accident as I was out of the country. I never got to tell her goodbye. Her face and body was disfigured to the point we could not have an open casket and had to have her cremated. I remember seeing a picture of her my grandmother had taken at the hospital and I cried because she did not look like my mother. This image stuck with me for quite a while instead of the beautiful person she was before the accident.
The following year was hard for because I had to go to trial with my grandmother and listen to the lady that killed my mom say that she was too intoxicated to remember if she had hit something or someone. The person displayed an attitude of I don’t care what happened. She showed up late for court and acted as if it all was a joke and not important. She even went as far as to tell her mom, “I will see later and soon”, as if she knew she would get a slap on the wrist (which is what she got). The other hurtful part was that her attorney pleaded for the judge to not give her any jail time because she had to take care of her baby; fact that she had killed my mom and had no remorse for her actions. Instead of her being home taking care of the baby, she was out getting drunk and driving without a care in the world for anyone else. Due to her age, etc. she only received 3 months of community service and 3 months in jail. My mom is gone forever and didn’t get a chance to recover and restart her life.
When I lost my mother I felt I had lost everything and was alone. For the next few years, it was hard growing up without my mother and not being able to just call and talk to her when I needed her or just to tell her I miss her. My mom wasn’t there for me when I became a teenager; went to my first prom; see me thrive as a dancer; graduate from high school; certified as a EKG Technician and Phlebotomist and become a Registered Medical Assistant all before entering college. She took away my mother before we got enjoy the best years of my childhood. My mom will never get to see me become and adult and what I become in this world. Thanks to my grandparents they adopted me immediately after it happened to show me that I was and will always belong to someone, them and that I would never be alone. I was loved by them and the rest of the family. In middle school my grandparents stuck with me to get myself together mentally and focused to stay on the right track and have a positive attitude so that I would be able to say “no” to peer pressure, etc. I was still hurting from the loss of my mom more so than when she passed away. As a teenager, I sometimes struggle with trying to determine who I was and where I belong. My grandparents were always there and never left my side, however, something was missing and it was my mom not being here to help or guide me, which would cause me start suffering again her loss again.
When I got into high school I told my grandma as a dedication to my mother, I wanted to start a nonprofit organization to help other children in our community and around the world who have lost their parents and senior citizens who are alone. I formed a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders, Inc. The organization has helped children, senior citizens and families in various ways by donating daily necessities (food, clothing, school supplies, toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc.) on a regular basis; after Hurricane Dorian and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To ensure that I did not feel as if I was alone, my grandparents immediately took whatever legal steps required and adopted me as their daughter.
I am applying for this scholarship because it will take some of the burden off them paying for my college. I also have two older stepsisters that my grandparents had to put through college. They also had to help them out of pocket with their tuition, flight lessons, transportation, housing, etc. All of this has made it hard for them to save up enough funds to send me to the college of my dream so that I can become an aviator in the Navy. If I win this scholarship it will help with them tremendously and I will be able to pay my college education expenses. It will allow me to pursue my dream career of being a pilot. I have always wanted to help my community and country ever since I was a little girl. I had the mentality that helping others was the greatest achievement any person could ever accomplish. I could do this by becoming a fighter pilot in the US Navy and protecting our country and make my mother proud of me.

It is also part of my college education goals to continue my education in health sciences as well. While in high school I enrolled in the Medical Assistant Technical program. As of today, I have obtained my certification as an EKG Technician and Phlebotomist. It is my goal to graduate from high school as a Certified Medical Assistant. As a part of my college education, I want to continue purse of health services and becoming a pilot and eventually a member of the US Navy Blue Angel Pilot team. My parents took me to Air and Sea Shows at a very early age. I became fascinated with airplanes and the military after attending the events. The performance that excited me the most was the US Navy Blue Angels. When I volunteered at the Air-Sea Show in 2018, I spoke with a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was invited to one of the meetings where I learned about the program and realized this was an opportunity for me to learn about flying and airplanes, etc. I have had the opportunity to grow with the organization to the point where I am currently ranked as a Senior Airman Cadet. I have had one flight lesson as part of the program. Due to COVID-19, we have not had the opportunity to participate in any additional flight lessons.
I have always wanted to help my community and country ever since I was a little girl. I realized how important that we all had a responsibility to ensure the safety of our country, the United States, and its citizens. This is one way I could do my part by becoming a Navy pilot.

First-Gen in Health & Medicine Scholarship
Growing up at an early age I watch my great-great-grandmother and great-grandmother suffer and recover from various illnesses. I would assist them with giving medication, etc. I remember spending a summer with my great-grandmother and we had to assist my great-great-grandmother with getting on her home dialysis machine and take her medications. I would also help my great-grandmother by giving her insulin when needed, etc. When I returned home to my grandmother who was raising me, I helped to take care of her when she was sick by making sure she took her medication as prescribed and followed the doctor's instructions. As a result of these experiences, I developed a desire to learn more about the medical field and how I could help others in their time of sickness.

The most meaningful volunteer experience for me was when my non-profit organization, Bright Lights Crossing Borders went to a senior citizens' daycare and delivered care kits that included body wash, toothpaste, etc. While I was there, I played bingo and helped with their meals. I was leaving and two of the seniors pulled me aside and expressed how they were deeply touched to know that somebody from my generation wanted to help and be around them. It was a memory I will never forget it made me proud to know that I made their day by showing love and attention.
