    Spider-Man Showdown Scholarship
Growing up, Spider-Man was more than just a superhero to me; he was a symbol of hope and resilience. When Tom Holland wore the iconic red and blue suit, he brought a refreshing authenticity to the character that resonated deeply with me and my life growing up. His portrayal of Spider-Man isn't just about battling villains but navigating the everyday struggles of adolescence, much like I do. One of the most striking aspects of Tom Holland's Spider-Man is his relatability. As a teenager myself, I see my own challenges mirrored in his story. Balancing schoolwork, friendships, and family responsibilities often feels overwhelming. Holland’s Spider-Man grapples with these same issues while also bearing the weight of his superhero duties. So being able to see him juggle his responsibilities, make mistakes, and learn from them has taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and resilience. Holland’s youthful energy and genuine portrayal of a teenager caught in extraordinary circumstances are unparalleled. His awkwardness, excitement, and occasional insecurity add layers to his character, making his experiences all the more authentic. For instance, in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," the scene where he nervously interacts with his crush or awkwardly behaves at a high school party is something many of us can relate to. These moments of vulnerability and authenticity make him feel like someone I could know in real life, not just a fictional superhero. Moreover, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is an exemplary role model. His kindness, sense of responsibility, and unwavering commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult, set a powerful example. Despite his extraordinary abilities, he remains grounded, always putting others before himself. This humility and dedication are qualities I strive to embody in my own life. His famous line, “With great power comes great responsibility,” echoes in my mind whenever I face challenges or ethical dilemmas. In conclusion, Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man is my favorite because he embodies the essence of a real teenager dealing with real-world struggles. His authenticity, relatability, and admirable qualities make him a powerful role model and a source of inspiration. Holland’s Spider-Man is not just a superhero; he’s a symbol of the everyday heroism that lies within all of us. His journey reminds me that while life may be filled with challenges, facing them with courage, kindness, and integrity can make all the difference.
    Big Picture Scholarship
From the visceral adrenaline rush of action movies to the profound reflections sparked by cinematic narratives, my love for films has always been an integral part of my life. Growing up, I have always loved watching action movies that showed a lot of adrenaline-filled excitement and provided me with an escape from reality, allowing me to immerse myself in a new world and experience life in theirs. Among the many movies that I’ve seen, one stands out with profound impact: “Children of Men” (2006) directed by Alfonso Cuarón. It is set in a bleak 2027 World ravaged by infertility, societal collapse, and looming despair. This film transcends mere entertainment, serving as entertainment to our present realities and a beacon of hope amidst adversity. “Children of Men” diverged from the conventional action flick, immersing viewers into a dystopian reality that echoes our own. As an Arab, I've encountered the weight of prejudice and discrimination, often fueled by historical events like the September 11 attacks. The film's portrayal of a world tainted by chaos and xenophobia struck a chord, reflecting the struggles I faced in navigating societal perceptions of my ethnicity. What resonates most deeply with me is the film's exploration of resilience and hope even in tough times. The central narrative presented of a world devoid of new life, alongside the miraculous pregnancy of a young woman, serves as a potent symbol of defiance against hopelessness and the loss of humanity. Witnessing the characters' unwavering determination to preserve humanity's flickering flame in the face of overwhelming darkness sparks something within me - a belief in the power of resilience to transcend even the bleakest of circumstances. One pivotal scene that shows this theme is when the pregnant protagonist descends a staircase amidst a chaotic battleground, a building under attack, while the cries of her child momentarily silence the violence, prompting a collective recognition of their shared humanity. The soldiers and everyone around just stop fighting and shooting as they hear the baby loudly crying. We see self-awareness spread through each individual silencing and stopping their destructive actions. In that fleeting moment, the barriers of division crumble, revealing the innate goodness period beneath layers of despair and fear. This portrayal of unity amongst adversity serves as a powerful reminder of our capacity for compassion and solidarity even when times are tough or seemingly bleak. Jonathan Broxton describes “Children of Men” as a dark and thought-provoking film that leaves a lasting impression. As I reflect on the profound influence of this film on my life, I am reminded of the resilience and hope that define my journey - a journey shaped by the transformative power of storytelling in the enduring quest for a better tomorrow. This film has a lot of connections with my life and my family's journey as immigrants and as Arabs as a whole in the United States. In conclusion, “Children of Men” stands as more than a cinematic experience; it is a testament to the unconquerable human spirit and the unwavering belief in the possibility of redemption amidst despair. Through its dark portrayal of a dystopian future, the film serves as a catalyst for introspection and action, urging us to confront the challenges of our time with courage and compassion. As I embark on my journey of higher education, motivated by a desire to make a positive impact on the world, I carry the lessons I learned from “Children of Men” - a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always a spark of hope.
    New Kids Can Scholarship
Moving from the state of Maine to Texas during some of the most important years of high school marked a significant chapter in my life, shaping my experiences, friendships, and future aspirations in profound ways. Having spent five years in Maine and then the transition to a new high school in Texas presented both challenges and opportunities, showcasing the power of adaptation and resilience. I had moved when there were only a few months left of my tenth-grade year and completed the remainder of it in Texas. Now that I am in Texas, I have the opportunity to join the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which was not offered at my school back in Maine. However, a drawback to moving away was that I had to move away at a time when I was just making some new and genuine friends. I have always had trouble with making good friends and the friends I have had in the past have never been the best people for me to associate with. I had finally become friends with a group of girls that are supportive, understanding, and uplifting and made me feel like I belonged. Just when I was getting to develop our friendship more and hope for our continued friendship for the rest of our high school years, my family and I moved to Texas. That is not to say that I did not make new friends here in Texas. It did take me a while to open up again and trust people and now I have made friends and essentially a family within the IB program. I also still stay in contact with my friends from back in Maine. The move to Texas thrust me into unfamiliar territory, where I had to navigate new social dynamics and cultural nuances. Initially, I was home-sick, because although Maine is not my birthplace, it is my home and has been for the past five years, which is the longest my family has ever stayed in one state. Yet, as I immersed myself in the vibrant life of Texan culture and was introduced to new things, I began to embrace the diversity and richness of the new environment. The big move from Maine to Texas has opened my eyes and taught me to embrace change with a courageous heart and open mind. Our lives are constantly changing and evolving, and no matter how daunting it may be, it presents an opportunity for growth and strengthens us. I not only have increased my level of adaptability but have thrived, and gained valuable experiences and skills that have shaped my aspirations for the future. I got to experience two very different lives within a short period.

“How could anybody do the things you did so easily?” (“the grudge.” GUTS, Spotify). These lyrics really nail what it is like being a teenager. When someone hurts you, it feels like they did it so easily, and you can’t understand why. Especially when that someone was supposedly your friend or even family. You try to act like it doesn’t bother you, but on the inside, it is eating you up. You stay up at times of the night wondering what you did wrong or where it all went wrong in your friendship or relationship or even if they were your friend in the first place. Teenagers these days are cruel. We are all trying to figure out who we are and who we can trust, especially if we have been betrayed by friends in the past and we don’t want to go through it again. These lyrics capture the vulnerability of this stage of life, where emotions are raw and relationships are a big part of someone's identity and self-worth. How could someone you’ve been friends with for years and laughed and smiled with just switch up on you and say cruel things about you? For instance, I remember a time when one of my closest friends, a girl I knew from elementary school (let her name be R) ended up moving to a different school for one year then we reconnected during middle school and spread a rumor about me talking badly about another girl (let her name be E). The girl who I supposedly talked badly about believed my close friend at first till I talked to E and explained how I was not speaking ill about anyone or anything. Due to this situation, I cried because I didn't want anyone to think that I was speaking badly about anyone and I am and never was someone who does that, especially behind someone's back. If I had or had a problem with someone, I would talk with them and resolve it or cut off ties with them. My supposed close friend (her name is R) was just about the opposite of that. She was always involved in drama at school or talking badly about people and then pretending to be their friend the next second. When I first met her, I was new to school in fifth grade and she instantly befriended me. I had only been in the United States for about two years so I was still learning English and learning to make friends. I would always hang out with her, however, she would have certain days during recess where I would not be allowed to hang out with her. She would even go as far as to take all of my remaining friends and make sure that I would not get a chance to hang out with them or even talk to them. At that time, I don’t know if I was just naive, didn’t know how to stick up for myself, or if I thought that she was my friend and that it was just something normal. Throughout the rest of the years that we went to school together till I moved, R stayed like that. She would still be involved in drama and be friends with someone but then talk badly about them to someone else. This experience has taught me that not everyone who presents themselves as your friend is truly your friend or has the best intentions with you.

If I could change one negative thing in my environment, it would be the backhanded and direct negative comments spread around in my community, whether that is at school, work, home, or in public. In a world full of discord and negativity, I assisted in a transformation where the seeds of kindness and positivity flourish; thus, overpowering the pervasive shadows of hate and hostility. The important change that I seek to foster in my environment revolves around the cultivation of positivity through goodwill to help society reach a point where kindness is rich, and compassion is the expectation. The MISO Project represents this pursuit and it was created by a close friend of mine. Collaborating with fellow students across different states, including Texas, we embarked on a journey to overpower our communities with random acts of kindness. Our mission was simple yet profound: to brighten the lives of others with unexpected gestures of goodwill, sparking joy, and kindling hope in the hearts of those around us. Our actions aimed to recognize unacknowledged heroes, the pillars of our happiness, knowledge, freedom, and safety, whose contributions often go unnoticed amidst the chaos of conflict. Through gestures of gratitude and acknowledgment, we aimed to remind everyone of the inherent goodness and selflessness present within our communities and ourselves. While encouraging individuals to believe in their capabilities, fostering a motivation to succeed, and nurturing a sense of belonging within their community, it has become an integral part of our endeavor. We aspired to be the motivators for change, promoting an environment where everyone finds a reason to smile and thrive. The essence of our initiative lay in the simple yet profound act of surprising others with kindness. In a world where negativity often overshadows kindness, these unexpected acts serve as beacons of hope, reaffirming that compassion is still present and can thrive amidst chaos. By working together with individuals who have diverse talents and creativity, we aim to craft moments that go past and beyond the boundaries that are placed by society and uplift its spirits. Ultimately, our goal is not merely about the fleeting moments of happiness; it lies in the profound impact these acts of kindness leave on individuals' lives. Witnessing the happy smiles and the glimmer of hope in the eyes of those we have touched reinforces our belief that even the smallest acts of kindness can possess immeasurable power, just as a negative comment can. Thus, our goals have been and will continue to alter the course of someone's day, if not their life.
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
If I were to imagine myself as a student seeking the Sorting Hat's decision at Hogwarts, I would find myself resonating deeply with the values of Ravenclaw, the house of wit, wisdom, and learning. My journey, similar to that of a Ravenclaw, has been characterized by a passionate pursuit of knowledge, an insatiable curiosity, and an inherent love for intellectual exploration. From an early age, my inquisitive nature drove me to seek understanding in various subjects. I find solace in the realms of literature, science, and the arts, relishing the chance to uncover the mysteries of the world. I even found myself gaining knowledge from music and movies/TV shows. I've always had a keen eye for details, wanting to remain quiet and observant rather than the one talking. The foundation of my character aligns closely with the core values of Ravenclaw. I have an unyielding thirst for learning, a quality that has driven me to consistently seek out new information and ideas. Whether it's delving into the pages of classic literature or immersing myself in the depths of scientific exploration, I find a sense of fulfillment in expanding my understanding of the world whether it is gained through my peers, friends, teachers, or co-workers. Moreover, creativity is an integral part of my essence. Ravenclaw students are known for their inventive and imaginative minds. I have always been drawn to expressing myself through various mediums, whether it's through writing, art, or problem-solving in innovative ways. The eagerness to think outside the box and seek unconventional solutions has become second nature to me. I aspire to be someone who always does what they want to do rather than following what everyone else is doing. For example, the architect Zaha Hadid is an inspiration to me not only because she is Arab like me but also because she challenged traditional notions of modern architecture and the utilization of geometry in it. What distinguishes me as an ideal Ravenclaw candidate is my unwavering dedication to the pursuit of truth and understanding. I have a deep respect for the power of knowledge and firmly believe in its ability to shape and transform our world. My ambitions revolve around using the knowledge and wisdom I acquire to contribute positively to society through a variety of ways, fostering progress and innovation. The journey towards becoming a Ravenclaw is not just about academic prowess; it's about embracing a character that values intelligence, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of truth. I embody these principles and find myself in alignment with the very essence of what it means to be a Ravenclaw.

    Book Lovers Scholarship
If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, I would wholeheartedly choose "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. This novel possesses a unique power to captivate readers, provoke deep introspection, and address critical global issues, making it an important choice for a universal reading experience. "Things Fall Apart" is not just a book; it's a literary masterpiece with a profound purpose and historical significance. Chinua Achebe wrote this work in response to the harmful stereotypes and misrepresentations of Africans perpetuated by European writers; specifically, Africans portrayed as “savages.” This book served as a powerful counter-narrative, challenging the colonial perspectives of its time. The novel digs deep into the impact of colonialism on cultural identity and traditions in Nigeria. I even presented this topic for an International Baccalaureate (IB) English exam along with another book that explores the same topic. As I read the pages of "Things Fall Apart," I couldn't help but be drawn into the complex world Achebe created. It vividly portrays the clash of cultures in colonial Africa and the gradual deterioration of traditional Igbo society, providing us with a deep and thought-provoking exploration of the destructive power of imperialism. My fascination with this book began the moment I started reading it. The storytelling is both compelling and nuanced. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving one's cultural heritage while adapting to the inevitable transformations brought about by the outside world's entry or perhaps even your entry into another world. As one of the few students in my classroom who truly appreciated the depth of "Things Fall Apart," I realized how this book ignited my passion for culture, history, and the power of literature to shed light on critical global issues. The themes of culture, identity, representation, and perspective are all brilliantly portrayed within its pages. Cultural change, racism, discrimination, cultural communication, the loss of cultural heritage, and the profound impact of colonialism are all topics that resonate with readers across the world. By choosing "Things Fall Apart" as the one book for everyone to read, we would be fostering an understanding of these critical global issues and inspiring meaningful conversations about the importance of cultural preservation.
    Aspiring Musician Scholarship
Music to me is not just a collection of notes and rhythms; it is a universal language that goes beyond generations and beliefs. Throughout my life, music has been my constant companion and escape from reality, influencing the way I perceive the world and inspiring me to explore my creativity. My journey with music began at a young age with my family when we would dance and have little concerts in front of each other as we listened to Arab music. However, it didn’t transpire into anything until years later when my neighbor kindly gifted me her old electronic keyboard. At first, I struggled to make sense of the keys and notes as I tried to create harmony, but through determination and countless hours of practice, I began to unlock the instrument's true potential. The act of teaching myself to play fostered a sense of perseverance and control that has gone beyond other areas of my life. Through practice and a few videos, I achieved a stable level of proficiency in playing the keyboard. One of the most profound ways in which music has shaped my worldview is through its ability to connect me with people and artists from all areas of life. Regardless of language barriers, the emotional power of music serves as a link to bringing people together. That is evident as different people appreciate certain music while others simply do not. In addition, music can evoke memories of important moments in my life and it is not just a backdrop but a driving force that increases my productivity and creativity as I study. My passion for music transcends beyond listening; I aspire to become a proficient guitarist and vocalist. My time in the school chorus ignited a desire in me to improve my singing abilities. My friend, who played the guitar, generously shared some of their knowledge with me after I showed interest in the instrument. Learning to play the guitar and sing not only coincides with my artistic ambitions but also enables me to express myself in some way that words alone cannot. My journey with music is ongoing, and I am eager to further develop my skills and contribute to the world of music as an aspiring musician. This scholarship would not only support my musical endeavors for the future but also enable me to continue using music as a powerful tool for growth and connection with the world at large.
    Barbara Cain Literary Scholarship
Books have always been my faithful companions, guiding me through diverse worlds, teaching me valuable life lessons, and being an escape from my reality. As I reflect on the literature I've immersed myself in, I can confidently say that these books have had a profound impact on shaping my goals and worldview. From classics to contemporary fiction, each book has left a distinct mark on my understanding of humanity, society, and myself. - Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie: Shamsie's novel delves into complex themes of identity and loyalty. It has made me more sensitive to the challenges faced by immigrants and refugees, motivating me to work towards a more inclusive and welcoming society in my community. I have been an active participant in a community project and mission consisting mainly of high school students, along with a few adult members, where we improved the lives of people in the community through acts of kindness. Our ultimate goal is to bring bright smiles into the world and spread positivity among people at every stage of life. It has the concepts of culture, identity, perspective, transformation, and more. A global issue that was discussed is religion and identity, more specifically about someone's identity being based on their religion and how their British traits are questioned because of their faith. - Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe: Achebe's portrayal of the clash of cultures in colonial Africa has heightened my awareness of the destructive power of imperialism. This book has sparked my ambition to contribute to global efforts that promote cultural understanding and empower marginalized communities. In a classroom of twenty students, I was one of the few or maybe even the only student who loved this book. I feel as if my interest in culture and history has been sparked ever since reading this book. It was even increased after a whole week’s trip to Colombia, where I got to immerse myself in Colombian culture and learn about the history of surrounding towns in the area I stayed at. For example, I visited Palenge (now Palenque), the first ‘free town’ in the Americas. I learned the language, cultural dance, food, and history, met the common people, spoke with them using the native language that they created, and more. The concepts of culture, identity, representation, and perspective were present in this novel. Cultural change, racism, discrimination, cultural communication, the loss of culture, and the impact of colonialism are all global issues portrayed in this novel. - Malice by Keigo Higashino: This Japanese mystery novel honed my problem-solving skills and my fascination with the intricacies of the human mind. The skills and knowledge I gained from this reading will be beneficial in my future endeavors. In conclusion, the books I've read have not only enriched my understanding of the world but have also molded my goals. I aspire to use the knowledge and empathy gained from these books to contribute to a more just, inclusive, and compassionate world, in any type of form. I have read many books. It is sad to say, but I have never read any true classic books by authors such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, and more. The only ones I have read would be these books: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Night by Elie Wiesel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Antigone by Sophocles (the translated version by Seamus Heaney), To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.

    Disney Super Fan Scholarship
From the enchanting fairy tales of Disney princesses to the adventurous escapades of young wizards, Disney has always held a special place in my heart. My favorite aspect of Disney lies not in a particular ride or a single character, but rather in the way Disney consistently crafts stories that highlight the importance of wholesome relationships – be it familial, romantic, or friendly. Through shows like "Wizards of Waverly Place," "Lab Rats," and "Liv and Maddie," Disney has not only entertained me but also impacted my life by portraying the essence of true connections. Growing up, I found solace and inspiration in the friendships and relationships depicted in Disney shows and movies. For instance, "Lab Rats," a show centered around a group of bionic teenagers. Although the premise is fictional, the genuine friendship and support the characters provide each other mirror the kind of friendships I aspire to cultivate in my life. Their willingness to stand by one another, despite their differences, taught me the significance of embracing diversity and unity within my circle of friends. Similarly, the show "Liv and Maddie" presented an engaging narrative of twin sisters with distinct personalities pursuing their dreams together. Witnessing their ups and downs, successes and failures, demonstrated that even in the face of challenges, unwavering support and understanding can bridge any gap. Beyond friendship, Disney's portrayal of family values and dynamics has left an indelible impact on me. The family-centric approach in "Wizards of Waverly Place" resonates deeply, as it reflects the significance of open communication and acceptance within a family unit. The Russo family's magical adventures served as a metaphor for the real-world challenges families can face, emphasizing the strength that comes from sticking together during trying times. This has inspired me to cherish and nurture the connections I have with my own family, recognizing that their unwavering support is a keystone of my personal growth. Overall, Disney has taught me that genuine relationships are the true treasures of life through the visual portrayal of all of its stories. Therefore, I am committed to fostering such connections as I strive to make a positive impact on the world around me. Additional information: To this day, as a young girl, I still watch Disney movies and shows. I especially rewatch all my favorites from time to time so that I do not forget. By doing this, I can still have an idea of what it means to truly have a connection with someone.

I am currently a part of a project whose foundation is heavily based on random acts of kindness. Our mission is to bring beautiful smiles into the world, spread positivity among people at every stage of life, and cultivate a more optimistic outlook on life. We also encourage random acts of kindness and assistance to others through insights and empathy. In addition, our goal is to engage in random acts of kindness towards people in our community, whether in public places, schools, or online. Giving recognition to those who have contributed to our happiness, knowledge, freedom, and safety. Promoting a more positive outlook on social, mental, and physical capabilities, and ensuring that everyone has a reason to smile in their life. We are a team made up of unique individuals who share similar visions with the same promise to bring delights to our society and bond through empathy. We will be organizing events, workshops, and programs that promote our goals and missions. There has been an increase in negativity across the nation. In every setting, people of all ages have displayed hatred towards others, themselves, and life in general. This project was launched to make a difference and slightly improve people’s lives. In the future, I plan to do the same type of project but based on promoting safety, trust, and cooperation between law enforcement and civilians. I will focus on resolving conflicts by utilizing a variety of techniques, effectively minimizing tensions within the community. I am inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement, specifically with the FBI, due to the experiences my family faced in Iraq. My father was a bodyguard for the Governor of Baghdad where his job was to protect the governor. However, the governor was assassinated by a group of people. A year after the assassination, the same group of people came after my father because of his job of protecting the governor and attempted to kill him multiple times. My father and many other people were usually up until morning protecting our neighborhood from thieves and killers. The first attempt was bombing his car to try to lure him outside. One day, they ambushed my father and mother when they were about to leave. My parents were able to escape and get our whole family then run. We ended up moving to a different district near the Green Zone. We later applied for the UN to go to America and got accepted a year later. These situations and our subsequent journey to America all serve as a testament to the importance of maintaining security and justice. Witnessing the impact of law enforcement firsthand, I am driven to join an agency like the FBI to defend innocent lives and uphold national security. This aspiration is deeply rooted in the challenges my family and I overcame in Iraq and our emigration to a new nation in search of a better life. Thus, it has motivated me to make a meaningful contribution to society through a career in law enforcement.

From the first time that I stepped into the world of volunteering, my life took an unanticipated turn. As a young girl growing up in a family that struggled financially our whole lives, the concept of volunteering seemed distant and impossible. However, one day I decided to volunteer alongside my family in helping our small community. It has reshaped my perspective on life and the world around me as much as recent events in the middle east shown on the news have. It has had a profound impact on my mindset. Volunteering has opened my eyes to the struggles faced by people from diverse backgrounds. I have met a variety of people who have faced hardships and these encounters were like windows into their lives, revealing their struggles to make ends meet. Listening to them talk about their stories has transformed my understanding of empathy and compassion. Like my parents, many had faced countless hardships in their journey, yet they beamed with gratitude for the little they had. Their optimism and happiness despite their financial constraints left a permanent mark on my heart. It has made me realize that happiness doesn’t come from material possessions, but rather from the connections we make and the support we can provide. Volunteering has instilled in me a sense of purpose beyond my struggles. As I continue to do my volunteer work, I found myself seeking out ways to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Whether it was organizing food drives to reduce hunger in our community or providing assistance with things they don’t understand, every effort brought a profound sense of fulfillment and joy. I am now part of a project whose mission is to promote positivity around our community, along with bringing smiles to people that need it the most. As my mindset shifted, so did my hope for the future. I began to visualize a career that would allow me to give back to society and lift those facing financial hardships. My determination to pursue higher education and a career in a helping profession intensified as it would improve my family's circumstances and also offer a helping hand to those in need. This is where the significance of this scholarship comes into play. While my perspective on life has inspired me to seek out greatness, the financial burdens my family carries threaten to cut back my dreams. This scholarship would serve as hope for my future. In addition, it would allow me to focus on my education and career goals without the constant worry of financial limitations. I am confident that I can become a motivation for positive change in the world and turn my dreams into reality.
