    MudPuddle’s Veterinary Scholarship
I want to enter large animal medicine because I have always loved cows and horses. While I have never lived on a farm or been horseback riding, I would love to learn about these animals and be able to help them so that they are never suffering. I think one of the things that appealed to me about horses and cows was that I rarely hear of them being malicious or harmful to others. I want to be able to work with animals who are kind natured and in need of care. I also like the thought of working with animals that are typically found in the countryside. I have never been a big fan of cities and I would love to pursue a career in veterinary medicine that allows me to be in the suburbs or rural areas. I would also like the ability to travel to different locations to care for these large animals. I have always loved traveling and this would be a great opportunity for me to explore new places. In terms of what animals I would want to work with, I would say mainly horses and cows, but I am also experienced with caring for pigs and goats as well. Becoming a large animal vet would allow me to specialize in these certain types of animals. In the summer, I work at an animal camp with over 100 species, but I ca normally be found in the barn area hanging around with the goats and such. I think that I have always liked these types of animals because I have never felt threatened by them and they always seem to be social and amiable animals, which is why I want to work with them. In addition, I usually connect better with animals and it pains me to see them suffering. I would like to be able to help these animals out so that they can return to their normal lives as if nothing has ever happened. I know that it sort of unrealistic to think, but I can't bear the thought of an animal suffering when they can be provided with quality care to help them continue to thrive. In a sense, A job in this particular field will allow me effect real change in the world and help out those who cannot do it themselves. It is part of the reason why I have always wanted to work with animals, but the good natured species that are a part of the large animal division of veterinary science are much more appealing to me.
    Science Appreciation Scholarship
I am pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine, specifically focusing on large animals such as horses and cows. I think that science is important to society because it opens up a new understanding of things that haven't been understood before. For example, discovering new species and how their bodies work, investigating new types of sea creatures, etc. It is important for us as humans to have an understanding of the world around us. Science also allows us to keep learning so that we can discover new things. This can lead to new types of medicine, clinical procedures, cures for certain diseases, etc. Science also increases our fundamental knowledge of the world, which we can use to create new technology, think of new solutions, and share our ideas with others inside and outside of the scientific community. It also helps us improve our analytical thinking skills that can be used in all other subject areas. Part of the analytical process is experimenting with trial and error so that we can prove our hypothesis and share our new knowledge with others. Which leads to an improvement in communication skills that we can use in everyday life; whether in a job interview or meeting new people. Scientific study also helps us improve our problem solving skills, which are very helpful and can assist us in what seems to be an impossible situation. Science can also broaden our perspective of the world, which can allow us to understand different people better and rid ourselves of any prejudices or biases when meeting new people. It is important to try and understand each without our opinions getting in the way because it just makes it more difficult to work well with each other. Science is also the basis of many things in our everyday life such as cooking, using technology, completing a science project, the shampoo we use, and just basic bodily functions. Many of these things are the result of scientific advancement. Without science, many of these everyday activities would not be possible. There would be no phones, shampoo, toothpaste, or understanding of anatomy. Science even helps us to understand the universe that we live in. Concepts such as how stars are made, how each planet moves around the sun, whether or not that asteroid is going to hit us is all a part of a scientific field of study. So you see, science is very important to our society because it is the basis for all of our understanding of the natural world around us and what lies beyond.
