Bio

My goal is to become a medical epidemiologist, primarily serving the community and ensuring they are in good health. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of research. It has caused my head to constantly buzz with a swarm of questions. How did the coronavirus emerge? How did it first infect humans? How did this virus sweep the entire world? How is it spread? How does a strong immune system respond compared to a weak one? Many questions as such run through my head. I aim to work as part of research during my undergrad up to my Ph.D. and hopefully even settle a job that continues to develop research that contribute new knowledge to the community. As a part of the community, we are only able to see the results of the research. Most people are unaware of the efforts that are being put by the public health department that keeps us healthy. Personally, I want to get involved in such efforts and research that happen behind the scenes and be able to gain hands-on experience. In the near future, I anticipate continuing my education and getting into a healthcare career. I am originally from Sudan where the healthcare is almost utterly impoverished which is affecting the entire population. I have personally seen my family go through unpleasant experiences in Sudan. I am certain that many other countries struggle with finding the minimal primary health care. After finishing my education, I aim to go back to Sudan to work on improving the devastated healthcare system to ensure a healthy life for all regardless of their gender or socioeconomic status.

If I could choose one super-power, it would be the power of governmental authority. I know that the nature of public health requires a lot of authority in order to impact the population’s health. Over the past few years as I dug deeper into public health, I have come to realize that the well-being of a population is measured by the government in many ways. This is the case in my country Sudan as well as many other low-income countries. The corruption of our government is vividly reflected in the population’s health. The nation continues to face struggles in finding the minimal primary health care. I have personally seen my family go through unpleasant experiences in Sudan. Those living in rural areas travel for long distances, pinning their hopes onto good treatment and care, only to be discouraged by the struggle to get the treatment. After finishing my education, I aim to go back to my home country in Africa to work on improving the devastated healthcare system to ensure a healthy life for all regardless of their gender or socioeconomic status. I want to be able to work with the public health department to study, analyze, and monitor disease outbreaks that occur as well as ensure the populations is offered the minimal care as part of their human right. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles and disaster prevention in communities. I strive to better the healthcare system in these countries by ensuring the entire population receives basic healthcare services but also educate them. My goal is to become a medical epidemiologist, primarily serving the community and ensuring they are in good health. To be able to make a significant impact in such corrupted countries,a lot of governmental power is needed. The COVID-19 pandemic along with my background has highlighted the importance of research. It has caused my head to constantly buzz with a swarm of questions. How did the coronavirus emerge? How did it first infect humans? How did this virus sweep the entire world? Why do some people have symptoms and others don’t?I aim to work as part of research during my undergrad up to my Ph.D. and hopefully even settle a job that continues to develop research that contribute new knowledge to the community. As part of the community, we are only able to the results of the research.I want to get involved in such efforts that happen behind the scenes and be able to gain a hands-on experience. To truly be able to make a change and influence the environment,I would need to use my governmental authority super power. I moved to the United States as an international student to get my pre-med degree and apply for medical school.Things took a turn after taking that first step and moving here.I began to develop a passion for public health throughout my freshman year in college. I took courses in microbiology and public health that changed my perspective.Dr. Judy St. John,PhD having over 20 years of experience in laboratory research taught me multiple classes and offered the opportunity to work along her as a lab assistant. She inspired me in ways I could have never imagined by looking at things beyond my own lens and introducing me to the various fields in healthcare and how each make a significant contribution.I aim to become a medical epidemiologist, primarily serving the community and ensuring they are in good health. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of research. It caused my head to constantly buzz with a swarm of questions. How did the coronavirus emerge? How did this virus sweep the entire world? Why are some exposed but not infected? Many questions as such run through my head.I aim to work as part of research during my undergrad up to my Ph.D. and hopefully even settle a job that continues to develop research that contribute new knowledge to the community. As part of the community,we only see results of the research. Most are unaware of efforts that are being put by the public health department that keeps us healthy.I want to be able to get involved in such efforts and research that happen behind the scenes and gain hands-on experience.I've always loved challenges and trying new things since this is the only way an individual can grow: by stepping out of our comfort zone.Healthcare,in general,is significant and very interesting in my point of view. The challenge of identifying illnesses or pathogens and figuring out the best way to treat or diagnose is fascinating. The pandemic has intensified research challenges such as choosing appropriate study design and data collection methods.Appropriate public health programs is of equal importance to manage and monitor disease outbreaks. The ability to work as part of the research community is fascinating and of great significance that allows engagement in discussion and decisions to allow successful research and provide trustworthy data along with actionable resolution that is critical for the public’s health.
