Freshman year I discovered the automotive career path at my high school Essex Northshore and Agricultural High School, not knowing where it would lead me and a little leery about entering a male-dominated field. I jumped in and have fought my way through the numerous barriers of being a woman in the automotive field. My sophomore year, I went on a family vacation where we went on a tour of the Daytona NASCAR Speedway. Here I discovered my passion. While on the tour the tour guide discovered that I was a girl mechanic and told me about an amazing school where they taught motorsports, and they had their own racetrack. That tour guide also found me after the tour and handed me a lug nut from one of the race cars, at that moment I knew, I loved NASCAR and I had to go to that school, the University of Northwestern Ohio. April of my Junior year, I visited the campus of the University of Northwestern Ohio and knew this was where I was supposed to be. I have continued to work hard, went out to co-op at Jiffy Lube and was hired by my high school to teach the night automotive certificate program for adults, where I gained the respect of the older students. Senior year, I have been accepted to my dream school, where I will enter into the Motorsports program, with the goals of becoming a member of the race team and acquiring internships for the NASCAR program. Achieving these goals will bring me full circle to that little freshman girl who walked the NASCAR track and dreamed of driving on it and being part of a pit crew team. Winning this scholarship will enable me to reach my dreams. Thank you for your consideration. Piper Englin
