Bio

I'm pursuing my Master of Science in Marine Policy and Graduate Certificate in Climate Studies at the University of Maine. My research focuses on developing accountability indicators for small-scale seafood businesses to improve their practices in sustainability, justice, and equity. This work is co-created with members of the Local Catch Network, a community-of-practice of small-scale fishermen, researchers, advocates, and consumers across North America and is funded by the Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation and Sitka Salmon Shares. Prior to attending the University of Maine, I worked as an activist with Greenpeace for ten years. The first six years I worked my way up to running a door-to-door fundraising office in Los Angeles as well as organizing local volunteer events. I then spent four years as a deckhand on the ships, traveling around the world while working to protect oceans, forests, and our shared climate. I intend to continue my studies to gain a deeper understanding of the roots of our current environmental crises, exploring how the destruction of the environment and human rights abuses share causes and possible solutions. I'm also starting a homestead on 40 acres in central Maine with my husband when we aren't at sea on our 12-meter steel sloop.
