Jeanne Kramme Fouke Scholarship for Future Teachers
Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I will always remember the days I made my grandma, a kindergarten teacher, sit at a desk while I “taught” her. No matter what I did she always had a smile on her face encouraging me along the way. Teaching offers opportunities to make a difference that not many other professions offer. One of the main reasons I decided to enter the teaching profession was because I have always been a learner. School has always been a place where I could embrace who I was and who I wanted to be. Teaching provides me the opportunity to be a lifelong learner. This is something I want my future students to look forward to themselves. My main goal as a teacher would be to help my students obtain a lifelong learning mindset. Although not all of them will choose to let on to this, I will continue to push them to be the best they can be. You see not as many college students take on the teacher profession not just because of the pay or lack of, but I believe mainly for the drive. Teaching is a lot of work and extra work on the side. That is something not many are willing to do. As a teacher, I would make sure I am able to provide my students with many resources to make sure they are as successful as possible.
A major joy teaching brings is that not one teacher teaches the same way. My contribution to the profession would be my ability to equally balance professionalism and a willingness to form effective relationships with my future students. I understand the importance of building connections with students to make them feel valued and mattered in the classroom. There are some kids that school is their only sense of happiness. I want them to know they are mattered and all have an important role in the classroom. This can be as simple as knowing they have a soccer game that weekend and wishing them luck all while keeping it professional. Another factor that goes into this would be giving the students the proper amount of attention. You must know that certain students are going to need more assistance, but also be able to balance those kids that don’t need a such help. A teacher does more than just teach content. A teacher does it in a way where all their students feel equally valued and looked upon.
