Bio

My name is Olivia Virgin and I am currently a junior attending Tuskegee University as an Aerospace Engineering major and Materials Science Minor. I am interested in engine and landing gear design with either airplanes or rockets. I am also passionate about satellite systems, including design, orbital mechanics, and orbital analysis. One of my long-term goals is to contribute to missions involving long-distance satellites like NASA’s Voyager 1 and 2. My ultimate career goal is to work in planetary rover engineering. During the entirety of my career, I aim to maintain a strong focus on environmental sustainability which can take the form of fuel efficiency, researching solar electric propulsion, and more.

After earning my bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, I plan to spend a few years gaining hands-on industry experience before pursuing a master’s degree in the same field. My career goals revolve around three sectors: I want to start by working on engine and landing gear design, contributing to the development of more efficient systems for airplanes or rockets. Another interest is in satellite systems, exploring areas like design, orbital mechanics, and orbital analysis. A long-term dream of mine is to work on missions involving long-distance satellites, like NASA’s Voyager 1 and 2. My ultimate career goal is to work in planetary rover engineering. Throughout my career, I am committed to prioritizing environmental sustainability, whether through fuel-efficient designs, research into solar electric propulsion, or other innovative approaches. Alongside my professional goals, I hope to expand my knowledge by pursuing an additional degree in environmental engineering, meteorology, and/or physics/geophysics. Gaining expertise in these areas will help me approach complex challenges from a broader perspective and make meaningful contributions to the aerospace field, especially in addressing environmental issues on a global scale.
