My life goals are to be an amazing teacher that my students adore and I want to one day open up my own school for those less fortunate and having trouble at home. I am a great candidate because I am outgoing, determined, hardworking, and all around lovable.I want to be the first in my family to not only dream big but actually achieve the dreams I talked about.

I knew that early childhood education was my passion. I want to make all of the children I teach believe in themselves and know they can achieve anything they put their minds to. I want them to have the motivation that I did not have growing up. I want my students to be able to come to me if they are struggling or need help because not asking for help will only make matters worse and they will eventually give up. As a teacher I want my students to be comfortable with expressing themselves because many teachers I knew would have their opinions on how a student looked or dressed when it was none of their concern and should have kept their comments to themselves. I am passionate about pursuing my degree in education because I know I can create a classroom and education experience my students will never forget. I want to be the teacher all students love to talk about and come back to visit because I had such a huge impact on their lives inside and outside of school. Hopefully, my teaching, caring, concern, and life lessons will affect them in positive ways that they can put back out into the environment one day or in their own future endeavors.
This scholarship will help me go after my goals and possibly make them even bigger. People always say what they are going to do but never truly put in the work. I want to be the first female to show other people and other young girls that they can do anything they put their minds to. Also show them that no one can stop them from achieving their goals. The idea is to never give up but to keep going after everything I want until I can say to myself and hear others say, she did everything in her power to help those kids and she never backed out or let what other people say get to her. I want to be that person people talk about and say how much I contributed back. I want to do everything I can to make other young children succeed and go after their dreams and goals. The scholarship is not only for me but a start to pursue everything I talked about doing to make a change and positive impact on these young children today. I want to make a difference.

This year was not the easiest year for me at all. I fell into deep depression and this affected my learning abilities the most. I started out as a nursing major and I applied to multiple schools and I got accepted into one/three of them. I was extremely excited because I was already disappointed that I didn't get accepted at the school I was attending. So after the good news I transferred to the new school. I attended the meetings and orientation, everything was going so well. You know the saying too good to be true? Well it was. I got an email that I was missing two classes in order to attend classes that semester. I had to do the hardest thing which was turn down my acceptance letter and take those two classes I was drawn back and was loosing my way slowly but I sucked it up and took them anyway. After completing them I applied to the Nursing Program again at that school. I waited a month or two and finally got the letter back. I didn't even get the chance to open it because my parents had before me and they told me I wasn't accepted. I was so upset and I shut everyone out. I even considered dropping out because nursing meant so much to me and was all I talked about since I was 14. This was the worst feeling I had ever felt because I sacrificed so much and even transferred schools just to hear those words again. This was the third time I had got denied so I gave up.
I took the summer off to clear my head and get myself together. I had to decide on what was next for me since nursing wasn't for me like I thought it was which broke my heart. I looked at the different majors none really seemed to fit for me at first and I was getting sadder every moment. But then I looked into the Education Program and I slowly could picture myself becoming a great teacher in the future. I decided on Elementary Education. I chose this major because I always wanted to work with children and it worked out since I wanted to be a Pediatric Nurse. I would still get the chance to be a part of children lives. The fall semester I enrolled back at my original college and had my major changed. It was the last thing I wanted to do but I felt better. All the stressing, worrying about getting accepted, and disappointment was gone away and I was actually starting to become more happier. This journey that I went through helped me realize what was meant for me may not be what I planned on or wanted. But the things that happened were for a reason and now I'm in a better place mentally, spiritually, and physically. Sometimes change is actually good whether we know it or not. In life we need backup plans because life will throw you a curveball in any moment or situation.
Learner Education Women in Mathematics Scholarship
Everyone's favorite subjects are always the simple ones like art, English, or writing. Well I was different when it came to favorites. I absolutely loved math! Every time someone asks me my favorite subject and I tell them math they look at me funny. It is like out of all the subjects why math right? First off I am a very challenging person and I love challenges. I never was the person to take the easy route or ask for help when I was struggling. Math is more complex and requires a lot of thinking at times. If you can use your mind and figure out a math problem you are doing well because sometimes we get problems that will last us a lot of minutes. Also think about this, math is used in our everyday lives whether we know it or not. We use math on our cellphones, television, alarm clocks, grocery stores, gas stations, sports, and etc. Everything we do requires some type of math whether simple or complex. The true question is would our world even function well if math did not exist? My answer is no because it is all around us on a daily basis.
I use math in my everyday life whether I am at work changing prices for sale, adjusting merchandise pricing, adding totals, counting money, and scanning many number of items. I use math when I am cooking while measuring ingredients, using different size pans, amount of time for preparation, and amount of cook times for meals. I used to always hear people say why do even learn this if we are not going to use it anymore in our life. Truth is they are right but the most important parts are remembering the basics. Some example are telling time on a clock, making sure the speed limit is matching your speedometer, counting money and making sure you are getting back the right amount of change, and figuring out how much money you are going to spend on something. The entire world revolves around math whether we want to admit or not. I already understood that it is just hard getting others to understand that as well. We need math more than we know because I truly think that without it everything would have no balance and we could end up in the whole. Math is the greatest factor in out society.

Education is always a person's last choice in this society and is not much of a first choice to many. If we're being honest it was not a first choice for me either. I thought that my path was one way but it ended up going another. I always wanted to work with young children but I had a different view of that in mind. I was able to truly figure out my path and passion after that road ended for me. I could not give up the dream of making others happy, being a leader, and making a difference in children's lives. I have experienced so many classmates and seen other younger children act out, drop out, and give up on themselves. It was like no one else had a clue on what to say to these young children or at least try to take the time out to help them. Children are like sponges so once you show them you do not care then they will not either. People have to learn that a child's motivation comes from those around them. Maintaining a positive environment is a must.
