I chose to pursue the arts because it was one of the only things I had autonomy in when I was younger. It was a tool that I used for therapy, for learning more about myself, and the first thing that I did that was very prominent throughout my childhood. I started taking my craft seriously when I was twelve years old, and then on, in my high school career, I started solely focusing on art and going to the right college for art. Throughout my high school career though, I thought about what I wanted to do, and for right now, I know that I want to try my hand at animation and fine arts. I want to make animation and art for video games, and I want to go to Australia, specifically to RMIT, to study abroad and learn the more broad steps of Animation and Art for video games. Furthermore, when I was younger, I knew that I wanted to work for a video game company. A video game company like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studios. I was largely inspired by the art and artbooks made for my favorite video games by artists that was assigned to them, as well as the concept art and character designs for different characters and the artists' thought process. It's really fascinating how the ideas you develop come to life, and that's what I want to do for my career. Right now, I am in an area of my college career where I am experimenting with different forms of art and media. My degree gives me enough room to do exactly that, but I do know that right now, I want to do animation and art. Although it may be prone to change, I do know what I want to do now to get myself that much closer to learning new things, and getting myself in newer environments.

I plan to make a positive impacts through my art and media by staying true myself. It is my belief that the laws of the universe abide. The Law of Attraction says " that which is like unto itself, is drawn". By focusing on the things that I know to be positive: love, joy, appreciation, and happiness, I understand that I have the ability to attract and influence others who are in pursuit of the value that I offer to any given situation. Whether they be black or white, man or woman, non-binary, whatever background, how ever or whenever in which one comes, I wish for people to see and experience the beauty of my art and be happy from that. To relate to it or to simply look and be comforted by it. Staying true to myself and being honest in my path will inspire others to follow suit.

The first drawing of my senior year had to be, arguably, the most important drawing of my school year. It was after my junior year, which was the most mentally trying year of my life. However, coming out of that year, I made little goals for myself in my senior year, concerning high school, and I wanted to find out what I wanted to do after my high school career. One of my small goals was my first drawing in my senior year. I started a portrait. My best friend Kim, with a photograph I had taken of them, with a very regal look. The drawing was very detailed and was almost done. I wanted to start with new textures and to really explore with this drawing that I have never done before. The drawing was long in length and thin in width, reflective plastic texture of balloons with hatching strokes at the top and a portrait of my friend at the bottom. Nearing the end of the process, I put it on the dry mat to glue it to the back of a board. Piping hot iron pressed onto my artwork with adhesive paper on the back to mount to a board as a frame for the work. I leave it there.... not realizing that there was adhesive on top of the paper as well. So to my horror, I found my drawing still under the dry mount. The paper had been torn when I tried to remove the press. I was completely devastated. The very first drawing I made in my senior year, ripped at the bottom. I put the drawing in my corner and left it there. It was only after a few months, I sat back and decided to return to it. It was nearing the final week of the fall semester, and I was heavy into contemplation. I felt as if I needed to do more with my portfolio, that it was seriously lacking, and to figure out the next big thing for me. While I was brainstorming, I looked at the drawing and decided to grab an exact-o knife and pencil and went to work. I thought about all the critiques I had gotten about the drawing, how her face needed more value, how a white gel pen could work with some of the tears in the paper, and decided to implement them while restoring it. Before I knew it, the drawing was fixed, and better than it was originally. I had known at that moment that if I really wanted to, I could restore and mend my mistakes when it comes to my art. It really showed me that I have the power to make my artwork better and that my motivation can be a powerful thing for me to utilize at times.

This drawing was inspired by the past trials and tribulations through out the year. The Roman numeral on the bottom means “17”, which is supposed to represent the 17th arcane tarot card: the card of the star. It means hope, rejuvenation, etc, and is supposed to represent positivity of the new coming year of 2022. My sister, the subject aft the bottom left, represents childhood innocence and hopefulness.
