After the tragic school shooting in my high school in 2018, my community was stricken with grief, depression, and heartbreak. Since then, I have endured struggles with PTSD & anxiety. I learned how to form a strong support system for myself and became a passionate advocate for mental health and education. In my previous research, I worked in a clinical psychology lab focused on helping children with anxiety disorders. This experience provided me with valuable insights into mental health and the complexities of anxiety disorders. Working directly with patients as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) allowed me to develop essential skills in patient care, empathy, and communication. This hands-on experience has been crucial in preparing me for the responsibilities and challenges of a healthcare professional. It also reinforced my commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. I made it my goal to learn and study more about diversity to become a more well-rounded person, and eventually a more complete healthcare professional. I'm committed to dedicating my life to improving the well-being of others and being an activist for underprivileged people. As a woman who is part of the LGBT+ community, I seek to change the dynamic of the medical world. Currently, queer people in medicine represent a staggering minority, and I want to break through barriers and become a role model for young queer people who wish to pursue these goals. In addition, I am passionate about gun control and participated in March for Our Lives -- an organization that started at my high school.

WinnerI am proud to be queer because our community stood in the face of adversity to overcome struggles, violence, and discrimination just to love who we love. I am proud because I got to see family members finally get married in the eyes of the law. I am proud because I can be myself, advocate, and be a role model for those who are not as privileged as I am.
