Bio

“Simplicity is the key to happiness” My name is Nihad Omer. I was born and raised overseas in Sudan. I'm a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, Where I'm majoring in Nursing. My interest in the medical field began when I was five years old when my dad fell sick. We were close, and I was feeling his pain. Inspired by this experience, I decided to be a part of the medical field to help those in pain. I volunteered in many hospitals in my hometown. I also played table tennis and volleyball in high school. However, I had to stop playing sports due to an injury. I aspire to pursue a career in critical care and gain the required information and experience to help those in need. Also, planning to return to my country and use what I have learned to help my people there. When I'm not busy reading, I enjoy drawing and having a fun time with my family.

    Bold Equality Scholarship
Verna Myers said, Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance. I have always believed that we should treat everyone fairly in all day-to-day activities and study or work-related decisions. The key is to embrace people's differences. As an immigrant, the first obstacle I faced was communicating with others. Since then, I have decided to mind my language and make sure it is free of discrimination. I would also remain curious and humble about cultural differences. Not to forget to emphasize the importance of understanding that no one is an expert but is on a continuous learning journey when respecting and embracing other people's experiences and realities. Welcoming new people into your community can go a long way towards helping someone feel included. Making a point of engaging with your neighbors, coworkers or peers enables you to stay connected with the people around you — and contributes to a world that values kindness and understanding over exclusion. For example, When in conversations where decisions are made, or main topics are in discussion, ask yourself, Who is at the table? Whose voices are missing?. Consider ways to incorporate diverse perspectives into the table. If you didn't feel those diverse perspectives were being represented, try to find ways to speak for them and help make changes that include their needs.
    Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
For me, recognizing what I was struggling with and having a good idea of things that I could work on was the start of creating strategies to improve my study. The hardest part was getting started., Once I established a routine, it became easier. There are different ways and study strategies I use to achieve academic success. For example, I space out my study over several days, Put aside 30 minutes every day to study for one class. It doesn't have to be 30 mins. It could be 15 or 60 mins, and I usually choose what works best for my schedule. Another strategy is to study while doing the assignments. Going through lectures, powerpoints, and any notes given by the teacher will help summarize and make it easier to understand the textbook's complexity. After reviewing that, the assignment will work as a review or exercise of the information acquired.
