    Joe Ford Trade Scholarship
    1. Which trade are you going to pursue after graduation: I have started pursuing an education in the trades at Chester County Technical College High School. I was competitively accepted and completed a three year Electronics Systems Technology trade and a one year Digital Media trade programs. I would like to continue the education of my trades. Most of my trades education in technical high school will transfer to a two or four year college. 2. Why are you interested in this particular trade? I possess a very strong passion and interest in both trades areas. I'm a trades legacy. My father, before he passed away had a great career in the Technology trades. He completed his education and training through a trade school education and mentorship. My father was an excellent role model, and my desire is to follow in the legacy he started, but also build it through a new generation. I possesses a strong entrepreneurial spirit, winning personality, ability to network and create professional relationships and partnerships, which will assist me in building and maintaining a successful career in the trades. 3. A person entering the trades should be able to think outside the box, be creative, and problem solve. Give some specific examples of things you currently do or have recently done during your high school years that require these type of skills. I love out of the box thinking, building and executing. Problem solving, critical thinking and being creative in my approach is very important. During my high school tenure, I had taken on the roles of a volunteer firefighter and first responder, which have required me to think outside the box, and solve problems in high-pressure situations. There are many examples that I can share, but I will narrow it down to two. As a volunteer firefighter, I was involved in creating emergency response plans for different types of scenarios, such as wildfires and vehicle accidents. One particular challenge was developing a response strategy for a local chemical plant. We had to consider various potential hazards and devise creative solutions to ensure the safety of both the firefighters and the community. This required thorough research, brainstorming sessions, and innovative thinking to address potential risks and streamline our emergency response. During a residential fire, the water supply from the nearest hydrant was unexpectedly low, posing a significant issue for our firefighting efforts. I had to quickly think on my feet and suggest using a nearby swimming pool as an alternative water source. This involved setting up a relay system with portable pumps and hoses to transport the water to the fire engines. My ability to come up with a creative solution under pressure helped us contain the fire more effectively. It takes a team, and I was happy to be part of the solution. These experiences have equipped me with the ability to think creatively, solve complex problems, and innovate on the fly—skills that are essential for a successful career in the trades. 4. A great applicant is someone that truly wants to enter the trades after graduation and already has a plan to achieve their goal of a career in the trades. What is your plan and how far along are you in your plan? I have a very specific plan. My four years of Technical College High School classes, will provide 9-12 college credits to a two or four year Technology trade program. I was accepted to more than 80 trade, vocational and college programs across the United States. My plan is to join the Lindenwood program this Fall to continue my education and training. I'm also currently networking with companies and organizations to explore options for a paid internship, or part time employment. 5. If I were to call an adult in your life that knows you well, why would they recommend you to receive this scholarship? If you were to call an adult in my life who knows me well, they would likely recommend me for this scholarship due to my competitive spirit and proven track record of success in various competitive arenas. They would recommend me for the scholarship because they have witnessed me demonstrate a blend of intellectual capability, leadership, resilience and passion that aligns well with the values and goals of this Trades Scholarship offering. They would be confident that investing in my education and future would yield significant contributions to both my field and the broader community. I started a Non-profit Foundation in my father's name three years ago. I have worked for two years, while maintaining perfect attendance for a Men's retail sales organization. I have worked hard to earn the number one spot in the Northeast Region, and have retained it for nearly one year. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.
    Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
Loss can be defined in many ways. I believe this scholarship application really gives me an opportunity to share my personal experience with cascading loss. Losing a close family member or loved one can be one of the most profound and life-altering experiences we face. It can shake us to our core, forcing us to confront our own mortality and reevaluate our priorities, values, and goals in life. For many people, the loss of a loved one serves as a wake-up call, prompting them to focus on what truly matters most and to pursue their passions and dreams with renewed vigor and determination. This is what happened to me at the tender age of ten years old. I loss my best friend, mentor and loving father, to Coleretal Cancer. My father was an amazing man. He was diagnosed in 2012, and fought an incredible fight for his life, until November of 2016. My entire family was devasted. All of my sibling were adults, so it left just me, my mom and my paternal grandmother. One year and five days later, my paternal grandmother passed away. Two of the very closest people, were gone, so quickly from my life. After those two losses, I suffered in everyway possible. My mom eventually moved from our home in Illinois, to Pennsylvania just to provide me a fresh start. At tender ages when you suffer a loss, you are confronted with bullying from child cowards, that taunt and harass you about the individual you lost. I found support and some comfort in starting over. For some, the loss of a loved one becomes a catalyst for personal growth and transformation. It may inspire them to break free from self-imposed limitations, to take risks, and to pursue their dreams with a newfound sense of purpose and determination. In the face of loss, people often discover a reservoir of strength and resilience they never knew they possessed, propelling them forward on their journey towards healing and wholeness. I'm still healing as I will continue to do. I'm set to graduate in just a couple of weeks. I focused myself, by focusing on what would make me, my father and family proud. I'm an honor student and a community volunteer. I founded, and now lead a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation in my late father's name. The Joseph Daniel Cook Jr. HOPE Foundation compassionately provides Support, Advocacy, and Grief Recovery Resources to children ages 3-17; that suffered the loss of a parent and/or guardian to cancer. www.jdchope.com Founding the Joseph Daniel Cook Jr. HOPE Foundation in an honor, beautiful tribute and a testament to the impact dad had on so many lives. Ultimately, while the loss of a loved one is undeniably painful and challenging, it can also be a catalyst for profound personal growth, transformation, and purpose. By focusing on what truly matters most in life and harnessing the strength and resilience that lie within us, we can honor the memory of our loved ones and create a legacy of love, compassion, and positive change that lives on long after they are gone.
