My main inspiration to become a nurse comes from an inborn desire to care for people in times of their need. Every person who has ever gone into the nursing field has an inspiration behind the decision. This choice could be an admiration of the profession, personal or even spiritual reason. For me, it is no different. Ever since the moment I was mentally capable of making my own decisions in life, I have always wanted to become a nurse. I am by nature an empathetic, caring, and compassionate person who is passionate about helping loved ones and people in general. What inspired me even more to get into the nursing field was when my dearest uncle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I was here in the United States, and he was back home in Jamaica. It was very hard being so far away throughout his illness. I would work hard here and send money back home to help with his medical bills. Whenever I would visit, I would notice all the great work the nurses did. One nurse was so kind and caring toward my uncle. The nurse had many patients and treated each of them with the same compassion and professionalism. All her patients felt special, and well cared for. Unfortunately, my uncle passed about a year later in 2011. It is never easy losing a loved one but there was a feeling of satisfaction knowing that he got the best care possible from both families and great nurses. From that moment on I wanted to be just like that nurse, she went above and beyond for her patients and had empathy, patience, understanding, great bedside manners, and just such pure passion and care. That was an inspiration to me and still is to this day and is part of what keeps me motivated. Another reason that inspired me even further toward nursing, was my experience giving birth to my son. I had complications during birth and had to get an emergency C-section. The labor and delivery nurses were so amazing. I was extremely scared, but they made the process so much easier by providing great care, patience, knowledge, and understanding. After that, I decided that when I do become a nurse, I want to one day work in labor and delivery to be able to pay it forward to other pregnant women in labor. Once I finish school and become a nurse, I want to enter the field with determination and eagerness for knowledge and continue to learn and grow in the field. Also, to never stop caring for people and always treat each of my patients with the same respect as the wonderful nurses who inspired me. I want to gain as much experience in different areas of nursing to touch as many lives as possible. Also, I want to continue having empathy for others and continue to grow and learn while giving care to others. Just overall to never lose that empathy or drive. Those values and traits are the epitome of what nurses should be, that pure and genuine passion for nursing. I hope to one day to live in that honor.

I am drawn to nursing by a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. From a young age, I have been captivated by the intersection of science and compassion that defines the nursing profession. This fascination has only grown stronger as I have matured and gained life experience. As a non-traditional student, my path to nursing has been shaped by a diverse range of experiences. Unlike many of my peers, I did not take a direct route from high school to college. Instead, I navigated through various responsibilities and challenges that life presented, including work and family commitments. These experiences have instilled in me a strong work ethic, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the value of education later in life. They have also taught me to balance priorities and manage time efficiently, skills that are invaluable in the demanding field of nursing. Motherhood has been one of the most profound experiences of my life, shaping both my personal growth and my career aspirations. It has taught me patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure qualities that are essential for providing compassionate care to patients. Through sleepless nights and joyful milestones, I have learned the importance of nurturing others and advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. Therefore, these lessons have reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in nursing, where I can apply my maternal instincts to positively impact the health and well-being of individuals and families in need. In my future career as a nurse, I aspire to make a positive impact by providing holistic care that encompasses both physical and emotional support. I am passionate about promoting health education and disease prevention, particularly in underserved communities where access to healthcare may be limited. By advocating for patient rights and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, I hope to contribute to creating a healthcare system that prioritizes equity and inclusivity. In conclusion, my goal is to make a difference in the lives of others, just as nurses have done for me and my family. I am eager to embark on this journey into nursing, armed with a unique blend of life experiences, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a genuine passion for helping others. With dedication and compassion, I am confident that I can contribute positively to the nursing profession and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those I care for.

From a young age, I witnessed firsthand the destructive effects of domestic violence and substance abuse. The instability and fear they brought into our home left lasting scars on my family. I have experienced the emotional turmoil, the sense of helplessness, and the urgent need for effective intervention and support systems. Through pursuing higher education, I aim to equip myself with the knowledge and skills needed to address these systemic issues. A degree in nursing will provide me with a comprehensive understanding of psychology, social work, and public health which are necessary to devise holistic approaches to support African American women. One of my primary goals is to enhance the care provided to African American women impacted by domestic violence and substance abuse. This involves advocating for culturally sensitive therapies and interventions that acknowledge the unique challenges faced by this community. By collaborating with healthcare providers, social workers, and community leaders, I intend to promote trauma-informed care that respects the experiences and backgrounds of these women. Coordination among various support services is crucial for ensuring comprehensive care. I also plan to use my education to foster better collaboration between shelters, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and social services. This could include developing protocols for seamless referrals and establishing integrated care models that address immediate safety concerns and long-term recovery goals. Effective communication is key to addressing domestic violence and substance abuse. I aspire to leverage my education to improve communication strategies within affected communities, ensuring that women are aware of available resources and feel empowered to seek help. Additionally, I aim to advocate for policies that prioritize open dialogue and destigmatize seeking assistance. Ultimately, my objective is to change outcomes for African American women by advocating for systemic reforms that address the root causes of domestic violence and substance abuse. This includes promoting educational programs aimed at prevention, supporting legislative initiatives that protect victims' rights, and working towards equitable access to resources for all women, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. In conclusion, my personal experiences have driven my commitment to improving the lives of African American women affected by domestic violence and substance abuse. Through higher education, I am determined to contribute to the transformation of care, coordination, and communication within this critical area. By empowering these women and advocating for systemic change, I aspire to create a future where every woman feels safe, supported, and empowered to thrive and reach their full potential.

I have had people who discouraged me when I was way younger when I made several attempts to get into nursing school. Basically at that time in life was surrounded by bad influences and a lack of role models. For anyone lucky enough to have a good support system I would urge them to be grateful and make use of that advantage. I have had to go through many ups and downs to get to where I am now. It was when I gave birth to my son that I felt something deep inside, and a great inspiration to be the best I can be for this life I am now responsible for. Ever since then, I have been so determined and motivated to continue aiming for my goal of becoming a nurse. I am currently halfway through nursing school and feeling more and more inspired and falling more and more in love with being a nurse. The hardships I overcame and ones still to overcome will only make me stronger and wiser and will help to better prepare me for being a great nurse. This scholarship would be a blessing to my journey.

My name is Nicket Hamilton, I am 38 years old and originally from Jamaica. I have a 4-year-old son that is my motivation in everything I do. Also, I am the second person in my entire family to attend college. Ever since I came to the United States, I have been constantly trying to better myself. I have an inborn desire to care for people in times of their need. Ever since I was mentally capable of making my own decisions in life, I have wanted to become a nurse. My experience raising a family is the most challenging yet most rewarding experience. It is a huge responsibility to be able to care for my son and husband, I love to cook for them and I love to make our home nice and comfortable. I love to watch my son grow and go through each stage of growth. Also, I am always worried about his well-being when he is away from me. I used to work full time but had to stop to go to nursing school full time, lots of sacrifices on this journey but I am doing it for my family and in the end, it will be worth it. I will make them proud. Every person who has ever gone into the nursing field has an inspiration behind the decision. What inspired me to get into the nursing field was when my dearest uncle got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. All her patients felt special and well cared for. After that, I decided that when I become a nurse, I want to one day work in labor and delivery to pay it forward to other pregnant women in labor. To me, at its simplest, perseverance is the act of working toward my goal despite challenges and setbacks. It’s the persistence that displays, even if there is a delay in achieving goals or success. People like myself who have long-term goals often lose focus and direction. It’s difficult not to lose motivation and enthusiasm after a certain point; however, perseverance teaches me how to continue working hard until I succeed. One major obstacle that I have gone through personally is self-doubt. I was not raised in a family that is very strict on education or success. Because of that I never thought that I would be able to achieve high education or even become successful at anything. Throughout my life, I've mostly had to navigate my way through and learn from my own mistakes as I go along. Not having that extra push made it hard for me. On top of that, I was told that I would never amount to anything by several people. Luckily, I was born with determination and high standards. I knew that I didn't want to have the same mindset as most people in my family or environment. I have been through so many setbacks but have never stopped trying. I have always wanted to be a nurse and have been held back by family and surrounding myself with the wrong people. However, once I entered my thirties and after having my son, that came with an even bigger determination. I am currently enrolled in a nursing program after many years of trying to reach this point. I know I have ways to go but I feel more confident at this point in my life because of my perseverance. Perseverance helps me to learn from my failures. Once I learn from failures, I then become a risk taker. this is because as time passes and I overcome each failure, I gain a better understanding of how to handle risk factors. Once people start to know how to handle risk and failures they become closer to achieving their goals. I can relate to this because perseverance is a continued struggle for me, however, once I overcome obstacles it brings me closer to my goals and aspirations. Perserverance also helps me to push my established boundaries. To become successful at anything, I've learned that I must first overcome obstacles and continue to push boundaries. Overcoming struggles and obstacles one by one helps to build my confidence and it gears me toward positive thinking and great determination to solve issues and succeed.

    1. A challenge I had to overcome is self-doubt/low self-esteem. I used to think that I am not capable and would never succeed at anything. I realized that I was that way because of my upbringing, I never had truly supportive people around me. Often, I was told that I am stupid and not capable. I overcame that mindset by breaking out of that toxic condition and throwing myself into uncomfortable situations to learn and grow. I also, make sure to surround myself with positive people with who I can learn and grow. 2. This scholarship would help me tremendously. I am a full-time nursing student who is not able to work while in school. I also have a 4-year-old son that depends on me. I would be very grateful if chosen. 3. My hubbies and interest include: Movies, long walks, hiking, cooking, home décor, healthy eating, working out, and studying! STUDY! STUDY! (nursing school side effect)

Social impact is often thought of as having this grand idea that must eradicate a major issue in the world or else it’s useless. Individuals can make a noticeable change through constant action and high moral character with positive intent. For example, racial discrimination can be observed in different parts of the world and is associated with the denial of basic human rights. In this condition, individuals with the same brain and capabilities are differentiated and discriminated against based on the color of their skin and racial phenomenon. Therefore, Positive impact can be created by constant and motivating actions to address these issues and aim for equality for all.

The most impactful ways to combat climate change: 1. Renewable energy sources converting our primary energy sources to clean, renewable energy Solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy sources might be the answer. 2. Transportation that is sustainable Our transportation methods must be environmentally friendly and have a low carbon impact. It is critical to rethink our transportation techniques from the design stage to achieve environmentally friendly transportation. 3. Preventing air pollution There are several strategies for preventing, controlling, and mitigating air pollution, including minimizing the use of fossil fuels and restricting industrial emissions and waste. 4. Recycling and waste management The most straightforward way to decrease waste is to match our manufacturing processes to our consumption patterns. Our consumption patterns must also account for the recycling process. 5. Protection of the seas and oceans Oceans and oceans store the most greenhouse gases and provide an extraordinary support system for life on Earth. Overfishing, irresponsible coastal development, and the purchase of ecologically friendly items are becoming critical. 6. The circular economy Use the circular economy's three r's (reduce, reuse, and recycle) to dramatically minimize waste and eliminate the wasteful manufacturing of new things. As global citizens, we must bring change in our behavior. Climate change is an existential threat to living bodies and to combat this we must change our attitude from our household to street to society to industry to other countries. We must make people understand that this is not a challenge for any individual person or country rather it's a problem for all. So, we need to train our children in school about environmental awareness, its challenges, and awareness. We should stand strong and united to combat the conservative ideas of populist governments and should ask them to adopt renewable sources of energy and save natural resources.

Those experiences taught me how much I belong in the field, I am eager to do more to bring about change and touch as many lives as possible. My ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse. However, I must stop working to attend nursing school full-time. I believe I have this one opportunity to finally earn the career I've always wanted to make a difference and provide a better future for my son and myself, and change lives. It will be very difficult financially not working and going to school full time as I don't have much support around me, most of my family are still back home in Jamaica. I am determined, trustworthy, caring and a person who works very hard at everything I do.
