Recovery is similar to being reborn if being reborn were possible. It's an opportunity to leave the past in the past and look at life through a fresh lens. Recovery is all about reconnecting with people and the community around us. Recovery typically involves joining a group or living in a community of individuals with the same goal. That goal in our context is to remain clean and sober, as well as adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Recovery is not meant to be a lone venture. When people drift apart from the recovery community, it appears as if their chances of relapsing are logically doubled or much higher. This is why it's crucial to foster a cohesive community where no one lets anyone fall alone. We pick each other up and keep moving forward with our shared goals.
The essence of early recovery is not only to stay clean and sober but to cement ourselves in the here and now rather than the then and there. It's learning to control all of the things we can control and let go or accept what we can not. Realizing that what we do in the here and now ultimately decides our fate in life.
Lastly, recovery shows us the pain we could not see ourselves in during active addiction. We begin to experience the pain that our loved ones endured while we were in active addiction. Therefore, changing our perspectives moving forward and rebuilding damaged relationships. I have 5 years clean from drugs.
