Topic: How do you plan to use your education to build a better path for Black people in the business world?
As a student at Prairie View A&M University pursuing a degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance Management, I am deeply committed to using my education to create a more equitable business environment for Black professionals. My goal is to leverage my skills and knowledge to address systemic barriers, foster professional networks, and promote financial literacy and entrepreneurship within Black communities.
Addressing Systemic Barriers
The business world has long struggled with disparities in representation and opportunities for Black individuals. My education equips me with the tools to challenge these systemic barriers. I plan to advocate for diversity and inclusion within organizations by actively participating in mentorship programs and diversity initiatives. Through involvement with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and similar organizations, I aim to support policies that promote fair hiring practices and career advancement for Black professionals. This includes working towards creating opportunities such as scholarships and internships that are specifically targeted at underrepresented communities.
Building Strong Networks and Mentorship
Networking and mentorship are crucial for career development, and I have seen their impact through my engagement with professional organizations. I intend to build and expand mentorship programs that connect experienced Black professionals with emerging talent. By organizing workshops, seminars, and networking events focused on career growth and leadership skills, I hope to empower Black professionals with the knowledge and connections needed for success. Collaborating with educational institutions and community organizations to introduce young Black students to business careers is also a priority, providing them with early exposure and guidance.
Promoting Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship
Financial literacy is essential for success in the business world, yet many Black communities face challenges in this area. My education provides me with the expertise to address this gap by offering financial literacy workshops on budgeting, investing, and business management. Additionally, I am passionate about supporting Black entrepreneurship. By providing financial consulting and mentorship to aspiring Black entrepreneurs, I aim to help them overcome obstacles such as access to capital and strategic planning, which are crucial for the success of Black-owned businesses.
Conclusion
My degree in Accounting and Finance Management is more than a personal achievement; it is a tool for creating positive change in the business world. By addressing systemic barriers, fostering professional networks and mentorship, and promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship, I am dedicated to building a better path for Black individuals in business. My education equips me to advocate for inclusion, provide valuable support, and open doors to new opportunities, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and thriving business environment for the Black community.

Topic: How do you plan to use your degree to benefit your community? Tell us about where you are from and how that shapes your direction.
Growing up in a close-knit community has profoundly shaped my aspirations and sense of purpose. As a native of Stockholm Sweden/Amarillo Texas, a place characterized by its vibrant spirit and strong communal bonds, I have always been inspired by the idea of giving back and making a meaningful impact. My pursuit of a degree in Accounting, with a minor in Finance Management, is not just a personal ambition but a commitment to leveraging my skills to benefit my community.
Influence of My Hometown
Stockholm Sweden/Amarillo Texas are places where community support and local involvement are deeply valued. The resilience and resourcefulness of its residents have taught me the importance of using one’s skills to address communal needs. This environment has instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility to contribute positively to society. Observing local businesses, non-profits, and community leaders has motivated me to pursue a career that can foster economic stability and growth in similar communities.
Applying My Degree for Community Benefit
With a degree in Accounting and a minor in Finance Management, my goal is to utilize my expertise to enhance financial literacy and stability within my community. One key way I plan to achieve this is by working with local non-profits and small businesses. These organizations often face financial challenges that can impede their ability to serve their missions effectively. By offering pro bono accounting services or financial consulting, I aim to help them manage their resources more efficiently, ensuring they can continue their vital work.
Moreover, I plan to initiate community workshops focused on financial literacy. Many individuals and small business owners lack access to comprehensive financial education, which can hinder their economic progress. By providing workshops on budgeting, investment, and tax planning, I hope to empower community members with the knowledge and tools needed to make informed financial decisions and improve their financial well-being.
Networking and Accounting Events
My active participation in accounting events and networking opportunities has been instrumental in shaping my professional outlook and community-focused approach. Attending events organized by the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) has allowed me to connect with professionals who share my commitment to community service. These interactions have provided valuable insights into how accounting professionals can support community development and advocacy. Networking with experienced practitioners has also equipped me with practical knowledge and best practices that I can apply to my community efforts.
Furthermore, engaging with industry experts and mentors at these events has inspired me to pursue a career path that integrates both financial expertise and community engagement. The advice and guidance I have received have reinforced my determination to use my skills for the greater good, bridging the gap between professional success and community impact.
Conclusion
My degree in Accounting, coupled with my background and experiences, is a powerful tool that I intend to use to benefit my community. Growing up in Stockholm Sweden has ingrained in me a strong sense of responsibility to contribute positively to society. By offering financial expertise to local non-profits, small businesses, and community members, and by utilizing the knowledge and connections gained from accounting events and networking, I am committed to fostering economic growth and stability in my community. My career goals are driven by a desire to give back and create lasting, positive change, reflecting the values and lessons I have learned from my hometown and experiences.
