Honestly, I had to rely on my faith to raise my children alone. I was accepted into college right after high school but got pregnant with my first child. So, I decided to go to work and take care of my daughter. Three more children and a divorce later, I decided to go back to school for my bachelor’s degree. Eight years later I completed three degrees.
Within those years I lost my home, and my car and didn’t get a raise for four years. I told the Lord, if you are not going to send me my husband then I need you to be the second parent. When I look back over my life, if it had not been for Him. I would not have made it thus far. My faith is my life, and I am not ashamed to be a Child of God. God has called me to preach the Good News to people who or lost or just need to know He does care. I continue to say yes every day.
It is by faith that I have decided to enroll in seminary school, so that I may educate myself on theological, and African American studies. This will allow me to better equip myself for my calling in pastoral care. Even though, I am not perfect my goal is to become better every day of my life. The way for me to do that is by being a hearer and doer of the word of the Lord.
Raising my children alone was my challenge that I had to lean on my faith to get me through being a single mother of four children. It was challenging to save the least, but all my children are healthy and have attended or graduated from a college and are better than we can imagine. Whatever your obstacle or challenge may be, seek a higher power than yourself. It will make a world difference in your situation and/or circumstances. It allows you to be at peace even through your storm and move through it without making things worst by doing things out of fear. Faith over fear allows us to know that it's a test and we can overcome it if we put our faith in the hands of our creator. This is my story and why I rely on my faith, but in all reality that is the only thing that I have to get through this life journey.
