Bio

I am passionate about art related things, especially fashion and drawing. I know the world thinks that those art careers suck and don't make much money but I do not care what they think because I'm gonna pursue my dream anyway and prove that I can make money with those careers. Therefore, I am diligently applying for scholarships right now to chase my dream schools and dream careers because "you only live once".

My three favorite places to shop online are Yesstyle, Amazon, and Depop. Yesstyle is an online retailer that sells many products that come from East Asia, they sell a lot of latest fashionable clothings and makeup products that makes me want to buy everything from their website. Secondly, Amazon is well known for many online shoppers because they have many good deals and sell almost everything from A to Z (just like where their name came from). I often buy everyday products from Amazon but I don't buy clothes from them because we all know that Amazon is not good at that field. Lastly, we have Depop - the friendly website that allows us to sell our old clothes and buy second-hand clothes, which is a very good way to save the environment and money. I support sustainable fashion so I really like Depop for its purposes.
      Nikhil Desai Asian-American Experience Scholarship
Ever since I came to America when I was 10 years old, I have always been searching for my own identity. It was a big cultural shift for me, I definitely have experienced cultural shock for the first few months after I moved to America. Everything was so new it was as if I just ended my previous life and began a new one. There were so many things to learn and adapt, it was quite overwhelming for my first few years in America. It has been more than six years since I came here and sometimes I still wonder if I'm American or Asian because I have citizenships for both my original country (Vietnam) and my current country (USA). I have experienced many cultural conflicts and different ideologies, however, as time passes I begin to embrace both cultures and merge it into one: my own identity. Besides the confusing cultural conflicts, I find many good things in living with two cultures at once. It's very flexible, varietal, and diverse. At school I fluently speak in English and eat American foods, at home I fluently speak Vietnamese and watch Viet dramas or tv shows with my family. It's two different worlds, and because of that, it makes my life more interesting and makes sure I never get bored in speaking just one language or live in just one culture. Another thing is that speaking different languages seems to be very beneficial for me. After I learned English, I also learned that I have the ability to learn different languages easily because I can adapt to different situations. When I speak from one language to another, I get to question and realize where the words came from. Knowing more than one language makes someone more competent than being a monolingual, I find it very convenient to walk around with dictionaries at the back of my head and ready to speak those languages. I also love jokes and memes about bilinguals or growing up Asian American, they’re something that a lot of us can relate to and laugh at. Besides different languages, I could get the best out of each culture and combine them into my own lifestyle. Now this one is big. When I don’t feel like eating healthy foods (Asian things i know), I can just order a McDonald hamburger in a 5 minutes drive. When I couldn’t find the right word for one language, I switch to the other language and hope someone will understand what I meant and then translate it back into the language I was speaking. All in all, being a bilingual and multicultural person is fun and interactive. Coming to America was eye-opening for me, I realized the world is much bigger and more diverse than how my younger self imagined it was. Along the way, I began to realize why travelers love to travel: they wanted to make their life more interesting and fun. Before that, I thought: “Why do people love to travel so much? Isn’t it tiring?” In that case, the pro outweighs the con because traveling to different places gives you so many benefits: refreshes the mind, challenges the body, increases your adaptability and flexibility. It also gives us new life lessons that could never be taught in school. Looking back, I am glad to be able to come to this country and learned many life lessons ever since. If I were to go back and choose, I would definitely come here again. Not saying that I dislike my country because I truly love Vietnam, but, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so I would rather discover new things than just staying in one place.
