I have given all my energies and commitment in any given circumstance ranging from “minor” things such as community clean ups to the big picture like when I represented South Texas as a part of the Senate Program and plan to keep doing so when pursuing my higher education . I act with the values growing up here in La Grulla - RGC , in my studies , school , community service , volunteering , and representing our piece of Texas. I have two younger sisters who look up to me and I make sure to be the best representation of how a young accomplished lady should hold herself. I plan on attending Texas A&M College Station and to double major ; pre-med (public health) and leadership. I want to obtain my bachelors in said studies with three minors one in Neuroscience Translational, psychology, and another in Military Sciences. Military Sciences in combination with me being in the Cadet Corp ; a program designed for Marine and Naval warrant officers will provide me with ample room and opportunity for improvement in being the best version of me in service . I will be continuing my pursuit of a doctorate while being in active service with the Marine Corps in Embassy Duty. Embassy Duty entails me traveling and providing my services not only as a MSG but as a well rounded and educated government agent furthering my reach in the ranks. Once my service to my country is done I will have a year of residency left before I am practicing medicine. Throughout the initial year government funds will be given to me to jumpstart my shelter-home-rehabilitaion and treatment unit for victims of sexual abuse , assault , and human trafficking. Providing medical attention , counseling , and a 12 step plan to be reintroduced to society as functioning contributing members . All based in Texas I want to be a beacon of recovery and hope for the thousands who suffer and aren't done well by and do my part of giving back in a world that often takes from those who can't stand for themselves. I want to be warmth and a chance for growth for women and children from walks of life that have been hard , and most importantly I was these individuals to know they aren't alone.

My sophomore year's medical coding and assistence was Miss Savannah Campos and she taught me far beyond textbook. Her class was a block (two hours back to back) period first thing in the morning, this year was a COVID year in which our campus opened up and allowed students to return if they wished to and on my campus, only 9 students returned. This year I met my best friend DLG who attended all my classes with me and in Med, he was my dummy and patient essentially becoming a multi-use prop throughout the educational year. Miss Campos had the type of contagious positive persona that almost tricks you into a good mood. My teacher in her private life revealed at the end of the year that she was struggling with her father's health as he was to be admitted to hospice and had been on a long battle against AIDS. This was right around the time that we were learning patient care through conversation and what the book taught us and what I and DLG would practice in our study clinicals was cordialness. My reaction to Miss Campos's father was pity, I felt bad because it was a dire situation to which there could be no upside because someone is going to die soon. After we ate breakfast she set up a lecture on informing a patient of bad news. She spoke of the difference between sympathy and empathy; feeling for an individual is the best option to show empathy in a professional matter because patients ( or people in everyday life) are human beings who have their thoughts, lives, and hardships so to be cold and disconnected is the wrong thing to do. I revisited my reaction to her father's news and instantly apologized because I wasn't compassionate ,I didn't show any type of empathy. It is crucial to me now as a young adult that I maximize my efforts to be empathetic and compassionate not just in a work environment but in everyday life. Having that morsel of warmth towards another makes all the difference in attitude input and output flow 10xs better and without thinking about another by wearing their shoes for a moment. I learned to have a broader outlook on others' perspectives and how to be a better person to others through this. Paying the kindness I received forward keeps me grounded into reality and the complexity that reality holds.

I am a young strong lady whose life purpose is to be a public service through health. I love learning and medicine is something that has always captured my attention through its beautiful complexity. Medicine has taken steps that defy nature in some aspects from allergies and EpiPens to even cancer stem cell research, and growing human body parts. I was a rather selfish kid growing up and I prioritized myself over all things my comfort and happiness were the best things I could have. However, this mindset took a shift when it came to serving in a retreat for young adults and teens in Our Shepards Good Monastery. I had an epiphany in a ministry and realized I was the type of person I prayed would stay away from my children in the future because I was full of anger and hate, but through God thankfully I've transformed myself to be a humble and kinder presence on this earth. I was to leave the world better than the day I came into it by opening a women's and girls' home where I will be providing warm meals, a place to rest, and above all assistance in aiding health. I know firsthand what it is like to be abused and denied medical care and I want to decrease that experience for women and young girls. Educating these women on their health and treating them for what they individually require attention to will create a lasting impression that facilitates health long term which is the goal. Health is a 4-point system I hope to teach all my girls so that they evolve and grow into stronger functional members of a society that they can contribute to. Mental health education is an important measure that I want to implement and instill in these people's hearts so that recognizing potentially triggering things and or events in their upcoming lives aren't as chaotic as they could be unattended to would be bigger scatter of things to put back together with further difficulty. I'm choosing this career to give back some of the love that was given to me growing up as well as the love and care I did not. This career path I feel would be fulfilling spiritually and mentally to contribute to a cause that is far greater than myself. It's life-changing to be someone else's stepping stone in the world we live in that people typically look to just advance themselves rather than others collectively to uplift as a whole.

Grappling with depression has been a pesky fly that won't go away during a lunch outdoors, it's always persistent and never leaves peace. I've been diagnosed with BPD and major depression since 2019 after a suicide attempt. Looking back at my former self I can say that, the person I was was a hollow shell void of all that does make me human. I was given an almost rebirthing-like perspective from my attempt; I grow every day to learn about myself. I've rediscovered my love for music I now play an hour every single day, I know I have a heart that yearns to help others. I try my best to assist and aid those around me through different organizations and groups to maximize the good intentions I possess and create actions. I surround myself with light and warmth that comes from self-help and kindness to myself I can be better academically inclined and resilient when it comes to my education. And I do make every day count now. I am healthy and able to serve my community and be a helping hand to those around me. I strive to make an imprint. When I tried to take my life a major factor of it was that I felt like a nobody worthy of acknowledgment. But. the world doesn't give hand-outs and I have to earn that recognition through dedication and effort, I follow that little golden rule at any given time of the day to ensure those around me don't ever feel how I felt; like I didn't matter. My siblings have thankfully continuously loved and supported me in any endeavors and I can only hope I am a better example for behavior and fulfillment in the future. I know my calling and I do abide by it and I cultivate different aspects of it by keeping strong in my ethics having mental health complications gives me the ability to see the bigger picture which makes me a more patient person I now know progress isn't linear. My journey and path are of my choosing and are in my control so it is my own best insurance to do things wholeheartedly so I have no regrets about what I choose to do with my time and energy. Being a strong-minded individual is hard when your thoughts are pitted against each other, however, I like to think it's my heart that keeps me sane in my mission.

My education plan is to get my bachelors in biomedical engineering, serve my country in the Marines as an officer in Special Opps, and then return and continue school to get my doctorate. While serving I will be earning two degrees one in combat engineering- foreign affairs and a health science one as well as serving my country an honor itself. Once I have my degree and government support as well as the means to support myself and my program I will take to opening a women's and girls' home. My home is to be a center where women and girls can seek refuge from any of the difficult circumstances they may come from whether that be domestic abuse, poverty, illness, etc, here I plan to individually accommodate the needs and medicine will be my biggest contributing help to these ladies and young girls. The medicine I believe is crucial to growth and healing inside out and with my dedication, I believe I can change the lives of these girls through healing and caring for them. I want to be able to provide and advise women from different walks of life like I have been my whole life it is my way of giving back and using my passion for helping others as it fulfills me in ways that cannot be descirbed through words but rather through diligent actions.

My mother is a remarkable woman who has shown me since the day I was born that strength is helping others. She has four jobs and has been working for as long as I can remember, she's a RN now RN, BSN. She made a crater in our little community down in the Valley by showing up for career days , through showing up when anyone around us needed a medical professional , advice , or taking care of. This scholarship would pay partially for what I need to move and study Biomedical Engineering.

My name is Neolani Quiroz. I am Mayan my first name in our tongue means "strength in the pain of trial" and in Hawaii it means "new heaven", I prefer to see the unique parallels in them. My last name is Quiroz, this is historically a Spaniards name but my grandfather know better and looks to our bloodline for knowledge so I know my last name is actually Jewish ,it has a 'z'. Quiroz means house of Quiros which were my ancestors in Perus point of origin. My name is important because its a conversation to be had , it holds the weight of my home of my people, my name is a constant reminder of not only who I am ,but of the people I carry though life within myself.
