Hi, I am a high school senior in the class of 2024 at Cook High School. As I plan my future, I realize my life in the real world is just starting. I will be a first-generation college student for my family. That is the biggest goal that I have wanted to accomplish for my family. I have always been encouraged to dream big by my hardworking parents. They always remind me that the key to success is having an education higher than a high school diploma. I have been searching for occupational fields where I would enjoy pursuing a degree, I found myself loving the healthcare field. The idea of being able to help others by making positive impacts on their lives made me realize that this was my purpose on this earth. After graduating high school, I will be attending Georgia Southern to accomplish my dream of becoming a sonographer. Going to college as a first-generation student will not be easy. I will have to communicate with people who can guide me on the right track as my parents have never navigated through the process of being in college. This next chapter of my life will help me grow as a person to be independent, resilient, and determined. As I become the first in my family to pursue higher education, I have to be determined to overcome any obstacle that comes my way and pay the way for the next generation of family members. I have gratefully been able to participate in many community activities. Toys for Tots is a volunteer service to give back to the ones in need for Christmas. This is an amazing experience because there is one less kid who does not go without anything for Christmas. Power Camp is another wonderful community activity that I participate in. Powercamp is not only working with kids to become better at their sport but also to know Jesus and his purpose. I have also participated in blood drives donating my blood. I am a person who wants to help other people in all ways possible. By giving blood, I am capable of saving a life by a generous donation. Lastly, I have been able to be a soccer referee for my local recreational department. One of my favorite memories growing up was playing soccer in my local recreation department. So I wanted to give up a few hours of my day to watch younger kids enjoy playing soccer and ensure there were no negative behaviors involved. If I could start my charity, my mission would be to uplift and empower Hispanics through challenges in the community they live in. Some of the services volunteers would perform are educational assistance and provide resources regarding healthcare access. I want to be an influencer for other Hispanic children in my community. Growing up, I saw the struggles my parents faced by being outcasts in our small town. Just because we are different does not mean that we have to change our lifestyle to fit in the community we live in but instead help people of our ethnicity. Ultimately, the goal of my charity is to create a supportive Hispanic community where they have equal access to opportunities, education, and resources available for success.
