My life goals center around empowering the next generation and helping individuals find their purpose through faith and resilience. As the founder and president of the Unashamed Clubs at Veterans Memorial High School, I’ve worked to create spaces where students can grow emotionally and spiritually. I’m also a youth captain at Cross Church RGV, where I lead initiatives that teach compassion and inspire service to others. My passion for preaching and psychology stems from a desire to equip others with tools to navigate life’s challenges while fostering personal and spiritual growth. I believe I’m a great candidate because I lead with authenticity, purpose, and a commitment to making a difference. My ability to connect with people and encourage them in their unique journeys is one of my greatest strengths. By pursuing a degree in psychology and theology, I plan to combine these passions to build programs and platforms that support young people’s emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. I’ve seen the impact of mentorship and community firsthand, and I strive to be that source of guidance for others. With this opportunity, I will continue to serve and lead with intention, helping others find hope, direction, and purpose.

Ward Green Scholarship for the Arts & Sciences
As I prepare to embark on my college journey, my choice to major in psychology reflects my passion for understanding people and making a meaningful difference in my community. Psychology offers the tools to explore the complexities of human behavior, mental health, and emotional well-being critical areas that shape how individuals navigate life. By pursuing this field, I aim to not only deepen my knowledge but also create programs and initiatives that benefit my community at large. Psychology has always fascinated me because of its ability to reveal the “why” behind human thoughts, emotions, and actions. Understanding this helps address challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression issues that many in my community face but often struggle to talk about openly. With a psychology degree, I can advocate for mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure that those who are struggling know they are not alone. Growing up in Mission, TX I have seen firsthand how mental health issues, especially among youth, often go unnoticed or mistreated. Many of my peers have faced significant challenges, from academic stress to personal struggles, yet lacked the resources or safe spaces to seek help. This experience inspired me to focus on a future where mental health is prioritized and accessible. By studying psychology, I hope to create programs that provide support and education, teaching young people how to manage their emotions and build resilience. In addition to direct mental health initiatives, I see psychology as a pathway to strengthen community relationships and leadership. I aspire to use what I learn to mentor others and empower them to discover their potential. For instance, I could work with schools, youth groups, or organizations to develop workshops focused on emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and self-confidence skills that are essential for personal growth and building stronger communities. Looking ahead, I also see myself collaborating with local leaders to integrate mental health education into public systems, such as schools and community centers. These efforts could include peer-support networks, workshops for parents and teachers, and accessible counseling services. Through these initiatives, I hope to break down barriers to mental health care, ensuring that no one feels isolated in their struggles. Ultimately, my goal is to use psychology to uplift and empower others. I believe that when people have the tools to understand themselves and connect with others, they can lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. By addressing the mental health needs of my community, I hope to inspire a culture of compassion and growth, one where individuals are not just surviving but thriving. Majoring in psychology is more than an academic pursuit for me; it is a commitment to serving others. I look forward to applying what I learn to create positive change and help my community realize its full potential.

Life is full of challenges that test our resolve and determination, but it is in these moments that we grow stronger. One of the most defining moments in my life was founding the Unashamed Club at Veterans Memorial High School. It wasn’t easy to introduce a faith-based organization into a diverse school environment. Many doubted whether it would succeed, while others questioned its relevance. Yet, I knew that students needed a place where they could be heard, encouraged, and supported in their journeys of faith and personal growth. The road to establishing the club was far from smooth. There were logistical hurdles, such as obtaining approvals and finding a faculty sponsor, as well as personal challenges like balancing this responsibility with my academic commitments and other extracurricular activities. Despite these obstacles, I didn’t give up. Instead, I leaned into the values that drive me: perseverance, compassion, and purpose. I met with school officials, rallied like-minded students, and clearly communicated the vision of the club. Through hard work and determination, the Unashamed Club became a reality. Today, it’s a thriving community where students can grow in their faith and build meaningful connections. This experience taught me that obstacles are opportunities for growth and leadership. I’ve carried this mindset into my role as a youth captain at Cross Church RGV. In this position, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring younger students, organizing impactful events, and helping others discover their potential. One moment that stands out was leading a youth group during a particularly difficult season when many students were struggling with emotional and social challenges. I worked hard to create an environment where they felt safe and supported, hosting discussions and activities that allowed them to express themselves and grow. Watching these students thrive was a reminder of the importance of leadership that prioritizes compassion and care. Leadership, to me, is about more than taking charge; it’s about empowering others to rise to their fullest potential. I strive to lead with authenticity and humility, focusing on the needs of those I serve. Whether it’s organizing events, speaking to groups, or simply offering a listening ear, I aim to create spaces where others feel seen, valued, and encouraged. Overcoming obstacles and demonstrating leadership have shaped me into the person I am today—a person who is passionate about equipping others and building a stronger, more compassionate community. I believe these experiences have prepared me to continue leading with resilience and purpose, inspiring others to rise above their challenges and achieve their dreams.

Adversity is a part of life that everyone faces, but for me, it has been a shaping force that has molded my character and strengthened my resolve. Throughout my life, I have encountered challenges that tested my patience, my resilience, and my faith. However, with the support of my family, the foundation of my faith, and the motivation my parents instilled in me, I have been able to rise above these trials and emerge stronger. One of the most defining aspects of my life has been the role my parents played in shaping who I am. They taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. My parents were not just role models; they were my cheerleaders, constantly reminding me that challenges are not the end but the beginning of growth. I remember countless conversations with them, where their encouragement kept me going. Whether it was a difficult season in school, dealing with self-doubt, or navigating personal setbacks, my parents’ unwavering belief in me gave me the courage to keep moving forward. Faith has also been my anchor. In moments when life felt overwhelming, I turned to God for guidance and strength. Prayer became my refuge, and scriptures like Jeremiah 29:11 reminded me that God has plans for me, plans for hope and a future. There were times when I felt lost, unsure of how to face the challenges in front of me, but my faith reminded me that I was never alone. I learned to lean into God’s promises and trust that He was working through every struggle to build something greater in me. One of the most significant adversities I faced was learning how to navigate life when everything seemed uncertain. During those seasons, I was tempted to give up, but I held onto the lessons my parents had taught me. They often reminded me that life’s struggles are temporary and that perseverance would eventually lead to victory. Their wisdom echoed in my heart whenever I felt like giving in. They didn’t just tell me to believe in myself; they showed me what belief looked like through their sacrifices and determination. Another key element in overcoming adversity has been the power of perspective. I’ve learned to see challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities for growth. My faith and my parents’ motivation taught me that adversity is not something to fear; it’s a stepping stone to something greater. Each struggle has strengthened my character and refined my values. Looking back, I realize that the moments when I felt the weakest were the times I experienced the most growth. Overcoming adversity has taught me resilience, strengthened my faith, and deepened my gratitude for the support system I have in my parents and God. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the trials I’ve faced and the lessons they’ve taught me. Adversity has become a teacher, not an enemy, in my life. With the foundation of my faith and the motivation from my parents, I have learned to rise above every challenge. I am not defined by what I have gone through but by how I have chosen to overcome it. And for that, I am deeply grateful.
