Calvin C. Donelson Memorial Scholarship
My name is Nathan Trevino in May I graduated from Macarthur High School. On July 22nd I will start the Automotive/Diesel and Industrial Technology program at Universal Technical Institute Houston campus. Earning a scholarship will help both my parents and myself with the financial stress of paying for me to complete this program. My parents are very hard working and do a lot for me. I would like to take care of the financial part on my own. This will allow me to do so and to focus on completing the program and not the financial aspect of going to school.
I have chosen to go to Universal Technical Institute for many reasons. One the school is close to where I live. So I don’t have to pay for room and board. As a person with ADHD I like the ideal of going straight into what I plan to study. I also like that at UTI I am studying one course at a time. In high school I learned that I learn differently and at a different pace than others. Having multiple classes at time did give me a struggle, but I did make it through it. I also have learned about myself that I am a very hands on person. As a child I loved to put Lego sets together and build things with my Dad. I like the idea of seeing results and having a sense of accomplishment. I am excited that UTI will challenge me both physically and mentally. I look forward to learning new skills and seeing all the career opportunities that I will receive by completing this program.
My many influences to get into the automotive world are working on our personal cars with my Dad. Any time he has to work on our car or truck I like to help him. I also enjoy watching videos on the internet about fixing cars. I also like the ideal of helping people in need. People are always in need of reliable transportation.
My goal after completing the program is to find a job working at a dealer or repair facility. Maybe I can possibly own my own business one day. I know once I am in the program it will help me narrow down exactly what I want to do. I am really excited to see what I learn and what path I could take this career.
Thank you, for considering helping me with furthering my education. It is greatly appreciated.

Nathan Trevino
Dylan's Journey Memorial Scholarship
My name is Nathan Trevino and at the age of three I was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. My parents have always been supported of me and provided me with a therapist and a psychiatrist. Along with my parents support I have been on a 504 plan at school. With my ADHD I do struggle with staying focus. It also effects my sleep as I have a hard time turning off my brain at night.
Through school I have learned that I learn in a different way and at a different pace. One thing I know I have to do is ask questions if I don't understand or missed something in class. Keeping myself organized is another thing I am working on. I know I need to make list of what assignments are do and when. Asking for more time if possible is another thing I find myself needing. As well as making sure I get a good night sleep the night before school. School has not been the easiest for me, but I am in my senior this year and will be graduating in May from high school.
I am choosing to attend Universal Technical Institute in Houston, Tx for many reasons. One of those being that the classes I will take are one class at a time for three weeks. With my ADHD I like this because I can stay focus on one class at a time. Also, I will be taking classes that go directly into my interest. Growing up I really enjoyed working on our personal cars and building things with my Dad. Which is also when I realized I am very hands on person and need to do something hands on. So, my choice of career is perfect for me. The program I am completing is Automotive/Diesel and Industrial Technology. It will take me a year and a half to complete and at Universal Technical Institute and they help me find a job once you complete my program. I not sure exactly where I want to work once, I complete the program. I am thinking maybe at a dealership. I am excited to see what I am going learn from the program.
I would be a good candidate for this scholarship because I know where I struggle, and I am continuously working on myself and how to help myself succeed. I am excited to see where going to Universal Technical Institute takes me.

I am really excited to see what I learn and what path I could take this career.
Thank you, for considering helping me with furthering my education. It is greatly appreciated.
