All my life I have looked up to my grandmother. I admired her passion, ability to help anyone no matter if she knows them or not, and her desire to help everyone. She has been a nurse for over 12 years now, and seeing how amazing of a person she is I want to be just like her. That was when I first considered nursing as a career path for me. From then on my grandma would tell me stories of her many experiences with patients, some happier than others, yet even with the upsetting stories, my passions never changed. I understood this career comes with a roller coaster of emotions, and can sometimes even be damaging to yourself. However, seeing how loved my grandma was for the love she gave out, I knew nothing would change my mind about my future.
Along with this, my dad was in a very bad, almost fetal, car accident. He was hospitalized and it was one of the scariest times of my families lives. Even though we were stuck in the hospital day in and day out, we felt very comforted and welcomed by the wonderful nursing staff. They updated us every chance they could, they checked on us, made sure everything was okay. Because of them, a scary experience was made even a little bit bearable. After that my ambition to be a nurse grew stronger. I knew I wanted to be there for people on what can be some of the scariest days of there lives. Now I work harder every day at achieve that goal, and make not only me, but my family proud.
After these events and coming to terms that this is 100% the correct path for me, I decided to complete a class to get my Certified Nursing Assistant certification. I knew that this would be a real test to show if I was right about my future plans. The course came surprisingly easy to me, but I knew the real challenge was actually putting these skills to use in real world situations. After receiving my certificate, I applied for a job at my local hospital for a CNA position on a Medical Surgical floor. I knew a floor like MedSurg would be a good way to get my foot into the door of many different medical situations. My hours were 12 hour shifts 1900-0700 and I loved every second of it. I got to experience nurses in real scenarios and how they react to different types of issues first hand. This only heightened my desire to become a nurse.
I am currently a CNA for hospice and am experiencing the harder side of nursing everyday. As it can be very emotionally draining, the bond I get to build with my patients makes up for all of it. I get to be there for some of their last moments, and I try my best to make it a comfortable space where they can laugh, cry, and just be at peace. I want them to know that they are loved and cared for, and that I am there for them for whatever they need.
All these experiences have only shown me that this is the path for me, and nothing else will make me quit as happy as becoming a nurse.

After that my ambition to be a nurse grew stronger. I knew I wanted to be there for people on what can be some of the scariest days of there lives. Now I work harder every day at achieve that goal, and make not only me, but my family proud.
Throughout my career I have two main goals I strive to achieve. I want to get better everyday and understand that there is always so much more to learn, and help as many people as I possibly can everyday. I want to wake up everyday and put my best foot forward, no matter what the previous days have looked like, and be comforting and present for all my patients. I want them to know that yes I am there to help make them feel better physically, but also emotionally. I want them to see me as a friend they can confide in, and who will be by their side every step of the way. I want to make people feel how me and my family felt the days after my father’s accident. I want to make something so hard, a little bit more bearable.
The way I want to carry on the values and traits of Cindy is to simply show my patients, and community, the desire and passion I have for helping them. I want them to be able to look at the work I do, and my attitude towards it, and realize that if they have the same love as I do, nursing is the perfect path to take. I want them to be able to look at me and think “wow, I would love to have the heart, and passion, to help people everyday just like she does” and to realize that they want to make people feel how I, hopefully, make them feel. I will strive to carry on Cindy’s values in my everyday life and to make her proud.
