My father missed much of my childhood to ensure our family had enough funds, while my mother has been unemployed her whole life. From raising three kids and taking care of my grandmother while ensuring our house was taken care of, she never had time for anything else. She has always put my education first to establish a bright future so that I am able to support myself when I am older. I have been fortunate enough to visit my parents' homeland throughout my adolescence. Visiting my parent's country of origin has allowed me to see the world from a different perspective. Witnessing people's struggles to survive has unveiled an unknown facet of the world. Years ago my parents moved from Mexico to America and were in need of someone to watch over their home while they were away. A poor mother named Teresa offered her services in order to provide for her children. As my family and I annually visited Mexico, my relationship with Teresa became closer. Teresa became my mother figure and taught me how to share our love and care with people other than our relatives. She has endured an abusive relationship while working to provide for her children and has shown me what it means to be a person who is determined to work through her obstacles while remaining true to herself. She has been granted the chance to leave her toxic situation at the hands of my family, and I would like to be able to assist her once I achieve success in my career. Her background has never defined her character, and I strive to follow her steps and respect and care for others regardless of their situation. Her story is sadly one of many in this world, but I would like to use it to help other women in similar situations. I have always wanted to volunteer at an immigration facility to help those women who have left their life behind for the sake of their children. Helping out at a women's shelter could allow me to give the care and support I have had in my life to someone who could let their voice be heard.

If the hospital only had someone who could speak Spanish, then my mother would not have to have gone through the endless bullying every time I had a checkup. Being around people from different origins teaches you unfamiliar ways of living, and provides an atmosphere full of multiple practices other than your own. Diversity in the workplace assists in educating everyone about different ethnic backgrounds and can present people with the comfort of knowing that there is help available if necessary. Pursuing marketing as a career goes beyond the science encompassed in the commercials, and goes as far as the study of the brain. Including diversity in the company can only further benefit those associated with the corporation.
