As a first-generation graduate student pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management, my journey has been shaped by the powerful convergence of personal experiences and a profound desire to effect positive change. Fueled by a passion to serve underserved communities and immigrants, my path is guided by the transformative impact of mental illness on my life and my unwavering commitment to raising awareness and fostering accessible mental health support. Growing up in a modest immigrant family, I witnessed the hardships faced by those who struggled to access quality healthcare, especially concerning mental health services. This experience instilled in me a profound sense of empathy and a burning desire to serve those often marginalized by society's existing structures. As I delved deeper into public health studies, I recognized the dire need for policy reform to address the gaps in mental health services and promote equitable access to care for all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. The journey towards becoming a mental health advocate was not a straightforward one. Struggling with my own mental health challenges during adolescence and early adulthood, I experienced firsthand the stigma that surrounds mental illness. This journey was a profound one, characterized by pain, uncertainty, and self-discovery. Yet, these struggles bestowed upon me an invaluable gift: an intimate understanding of the pressing need to create a compassionate and supportive environment for those grappling with mental health issues. Through my experiences, I discovered that the journey to recovery is not a solitary one. Access to the right resources, support networks, and culturally competent care are all crucial components of the healing process. I fervently believe that public health initiatives must encompass a comprehensive approach to mental health, addressing both prevention and intervention. By incorporating culturally sensitive mental health practices, we can foster an inclusive space where individuals from diverse backgrounds feel understood and valued. During my undergraduate years, I actively engaged with mental health advocacy groups, organizing workshops and seminars to promote mental wellness and destigmatize seeking help. Collaborating with community organizations, I witnessed the transformative power of open discussions about mental health, providing a safe haven for individuals to share their stories and realize they were not alone. Now, as a first-generation graduate student with a dedicated focus on health policy and management, I see my academic journey as a springboard to expand my impact. My passion for effecting change in underserved communities and among immigrants drives me to explore innovative approaches to policy development. Through evidence-based research and data-driven strategies, I aim to advocate for increased funding and resources for mental health programs, and the integration of mental health services into primary care settings. Furthermore, I am committed to building bridges between academic institutions and community organizations, fostering partnerships to bring mental health awareness and support directly to those in need. By collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders, I hope to develop sustainable solutions that address the unique challenges faced by diverse populations. I am driven to dismantle the barriers that hinder individuals from seeking help and to create a society that is compassionate, understanding, and supportive of mental wellness. To utilize my education, passion, and lived experiences to build awareness and foster accessible mental health support, as we strive together to pave the way for a healthier and more empathetic world.

Healing Self and Community Scholarship
In today's world, I am dedicated to transforming mental health care into an accessible and affordable resource for all individuals. To achieve this, I propose establishing a non-profit organization that leverages legal resources and partnerships to break down barriers and provide comprehensive support to underserved communities. Through proactive advocacy efforts, collaboration with lawmakers and healthcare professionals, and securing funding for mental health programs, we will pave the way for systemic changes that prioritize affordability and accessibility.
Raising awareness and dismantling the stigma associated with seeking help are crucial elements of my plan. By fostering open dialogue, promoting education, and cultivating empathy through purposeful conversations, social media campaigns, and community engagement, we will empower individuals to embrace their mental health needs and eliminate the barriers created by stigma. As awareness grows, the demand for affordable mental health care will increase, driving the need for change.
Volunteering and supporting non-profit organizations and community centers will play a vital role in providing affordable mental health care services. Through volunteering, fundraising, or donating, we will strengthen these organizations' initiatives, enabling them to expand their reach and serve more individuals in need.
Active advocacy will be pivotal in shaping policies that positively impact mental health care. Engaging with governments, healthcare organizations, and policymakers, we will emphasize the significance of mental health and advocate for increased funding, enhanced insurance coverage, and regulations that promote affordability and accessibility.

Throughout my journey, I have found numerous opportunities to practice selflessness, providing assistance and support to those in need within my church community, aiding elderly individuals with important legal documents, supporting family members during challenging financial times, and offering guidance to young adults facing family issues.
One way I exemplify selflessness is through my active involvement in my church community. I have dedicated my time and energy to assisting fellow church members who are facing difficult circumstances. Whether it is providing emotional support, offering a listening ear, or lending a helping hand with practical tasks, I strive to be there for those who need support. By actively engaging in volunteer activities and serving others, I aim to demonstrate the importance of selflessness and inspire others to follow suit. In addition, I have taken the initiative to help elderly individuals with tasks that require understanding legal documents. Recognizing that these tasks can be overwhelming for them, I offer my assistance in reading and explaining important legal documents, such as contracts or medical forms. This act of selflessness helps alleviate their burden and empowers them to make informed decisions while ensuring their rights and interests are protected. During times of financial hardship within my family, I have embraced selflessness by providing aid and support. Understanding the stress and challenges that arise from financial struggles, I have offered both financial assistance and emotional support to my family members. By doing so, I hope to alleviate their burdens, provide a sense of stability, and foster an environment of love and care. Moreover, I actively support young adults in my community who face family issues and challenges. I provide them with a listening ear, offering guidance, and sharing my own experiences to help them navigate difficult situations. By being a source of support and understanding, I strive to empower them and encourage them to persevere in the face of adversity.
To further promote selflessness, I strongly believe in the concept of "paying it forward." By embracing this principle, I encourage others to extend acts of kindness and support to those around them, creating a cycle of compassion and generosity. Additionally, I dedicate my time to volunteering in various organizations and community initiatives, further amplifying the impact I can make in the lives of others.
To conclude, embodying selflessness is at the core of my being. Mental health care and advocacy play a crucial role in achieving social justice for communities of color. Mental health disparities are prevalent in marginalized communities, including the Black community, due to various factors such as historical trauma, discrimination, and limited access to resources. Raising awareness for domestic violence is a cause that holds great importance to me. Through my prior legal work experience at a law firm, I have gained a deep understanding of the legal and social complexities surrounding domestic violence cases. This experience has fueled my passion to actively work towards creating a society where individuals feel safe, supported, and free from abuse.
One of the ways I plan to raise awareness for domestic violence is through my pursuit of a master’s in public health. By obtaining this degree, I aim to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to address the multifaceted issues associated with domestic violence from a public health perspective. Public health approaches focus on prevention, intervention, and support systems that can significantly impact the lives of survivors and their families. Working in an organization that prioritizes providing the highest quality health care services to all individuals, regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay, is another crucial step I plan to take in making a difference. By being part of an inclusive and compassionate healthcare organization, I can contribute to creating a safe and supportive environment for survivors of domestic violence. This entails providing comprehensive healthcare services that address the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of survivors, while also raising awareness among healthcare providers about the signs of domestic violence and the appropriate response. Through my actions, I hope to impact the lives of others by providing support and resources to survivors of domestic violence. This can include establishing and facilitating support groups where individuals can share their experiences, find solace, and gain access to information about available services. These support groups can serve as safe spaces where survivors can connect with others who have gone through similar experiences and find the strength and encouragement to rebuild their lives. Advocacy interventions will also play a significant role in my efforts to raise awareness for domestic violence. This involves actively engaging with policymakers, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to advocate for policies and laws that protect survivors, increase resources for prevention and intervention, and hold perpetrators accountable. By leveraging my legal background, I can contribute to the development and implementation of legislation that safeguards the rights and well-being of survivors of domestic violence. Additionally, I plan to collaborate with local organizations and community groups that specialize in domestic violence prevention and support. By joining forces, we can amplify our efforts, share resources, and reach a wider audience. Together, we can develop and implement educational programs, awareness campaigns, and training workshops to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to domestic violence.
To conclude, my prior legal work experience, pursuit of a master’s in public health, and dedication to working in an organization that provides high-quality healthcare services to all, contribute to my plan of raising awareness for domestic violence. Through support group advocacy interventions, collaborative partnerships, and advocacy efforts, I aim to impact the lives of survivors, promote a society that rejects domestic violence, and empower individuals to create safer and healthier communities. Together, we can work towards a future where domestic violence is no longer tolerated, and survivors can live their lives free from fear and abuse.

By taking advantage of these accessible resources, I was able to incorporate regular exercise into my routine without financial burden. These activities, combined with my improved eating habits, led to significant weight loss and an overall improvement in my physical fitness. Through my personal journey, I have come to realize that healthy eating habits are not just about weight loss or physical appearance. They are about nurturing our bodies, nourishing our minds, and taking care of ourselves holistically. It is essential to prioritize our health by making conscious choices about the food we consume. By adopting healthy eating habits, we can improve our energy levels, boost our mental well-being, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Arriving in a foreign land, my parents encountered numerous hurdles that tested their strength and resilience. The language barrier presented a significant obstacle as they worked tirelessly to learn English, ensuring effective communication and integration into American society. Additionally, they faced the immense pressure of finding stable employment to support our family, while simultaneously adapting to a new work culture and addressing the discrimination and biases often faced by immigrants.
Being a part of the Seventh-day Adventist community has provided invaluable support and a sense of belonging. The fellowship and camaraderie within the community have been sources of strength, encouragement, and accountability. The shared beliefs, values, and experiences have created a bond that transcends cultural and generational differences, fostering a sense of unity and support. Whether through attending worship services, participating in community outreach programs, or engaging in spiritual discussions, I have found solace and guidance within the community.
Witnessing my parents navigate these challenges has instilled in me an unwavering determination to overcome adversity. Their relentless work ethic and perseverance in the face of obstacles have shaped my own approach to life, motivating me to strive for excellence and never give up on my dreams. Their resilience has taught me the importance of tenacity, adaptability, and maintaining a positive mindset, regardless of the circumstances. Moreover, my parents' experience has cultivated within me a deep appreciation for the opportunities available in the United States. Their sacrifices and unwavering belief in the value of education have inspired my own pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. Recognizing the opportunities afforded to me, I am driven to make the most of them and use my education and abilities to positively impact others and contribute to society. Furthermore, the challenges my parents faced have fostered a strong sense of empathy and compassion within me. I understand the struggles and sacrifices that many immigrants endure, and I am committed to advocating for equitable opportunities and support for marginalized communities. Their experiences have shaped my perspective, prompting me to work towards creating a more inclusive and empathetic society that values diversity and uplifts those who face adversity.
In conclusion, the challenges faced by my Haitian parents in their journey to the United States have shaped me into a resilient, determined, and compassionate individual. Their experiences have influenced my values, prompting me to work towards creating a more inclusive and empathetic society that values diversity and uplifts those who face adversity. I am committed to using my voice and platform to advocate for equitable opportunities, fight against discrimination, and address the systemic barriers that hinder the progress of marginalized communities. Drawing from the strength and resilience of my parents, I am determined to make a difference in the lives of others. Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
Graduate school excites me immensely as I embark on my journey towards a Master's degree in Public Health. This new chapter in my academic life is particularly thrilling because of the invaluable experiences I gained during my undergraduate years, where I immersed myself in the legal field. Working and interning at various law firms provided me with a solid foundation for critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills, which I believe will be instrumental in my pursuit of a career in public health. Maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul is of utmost importance to me, especially in the face of the challenges that accompany graduate school. Balancing my academic responsibilities with a full-time job and the financial obligations of paying bills has required diligent time management and self-discipline. However, I have embraced this juggling act and developed strategies to ensure my overall well-being remains intact.
To nurture my mind, I prioritize self-care practices such as setting aside time for relaxation, engaging in stimulating conversations with peers, and professors, and dedicating regular intervals for reflection and self-assessment. These activities allow me to process the academic material effectively and maintain a positive mindset.
To keep my body healthy, I engage in physical activities that I enjoy, such as yoga, jogging, and attending fitness classes. Regular exercise not only helps to alleviate stress but also boosts my energy levels and enhances my cognitive abilities. Additionally, I strive to maintain a balanced diet, ensuring that I provide my body with the essential nutrients it needs to function optimally. Nurturing my soul is a vital aspect of my overall well-being. I make time for activities that bring me joy and fulfillment, such as spending quality time with loved ones, engaging in creative outlets like painting and writing, and immersing myself in nature. These experiences provide me with a sense of purpose and tranquility, which fuels my motivation to excel in both my academic and personal pursuits. Recognizing the significance of mental health, I have also prioritized therapy as an integral part of my self-care routine. Regular therapy sessions allow me to process any emotional challenges, develop coping strategies, and gain insights into myself. By seeking professional support, I have cultivated resilience and emotional well-being, enabling me to navigate the demands of graduate school more effectively.
As I step into the world of public health, I am invigorated by the prospects of making a tangible difference in people's lives. I am eager to apply the skills and knowledge I acquired during my undergraduate legal experiences to address complex health issues and promote positive change in communities. Graduate school serves as a platform to expand my understanding of public health, equipping me with the necessary tools to contribute meaningfully to the field.

She was not just a grandparent to me, but a parent, as she helped raise me and played an essential role in shaping who I am today. Losing her was one of the most devastating experiences of my life, and it left a huge void in my heart that I thought I would never recover from. However, I knew that I had to keep going, not just for myself but for her. I wanted to honor her memory by pursuing the dreams she had for me and achieving the goals she had helped me set for myself.
Managing my grief while juggling school, work, and the burden of paying off the debt she left behind was incredibly challenging. It felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders, and there were times when I didn't think I could handle it all. However, I knew that giving up was not an option, and I had to find a way to keep pushing forward. Seeking therapy was one of the best decisions I made during this time. Talking to a professional who could guide me through my emotions and help me develop coping mechanisms was incredibly helpful.
My grandmother's influence on my life continued even after she was gone. She instilled in me a strong sense of cultural identity and pride, which helped me navigate the world with confidence. I am determined to honor her legacy by continuing to work hard, pushing through challenges, and helping others in my community. Seeing the impact that inadequate healthcare and resources can have on families and communities only further motivates me to work towards creating a more equitable and just healthcare system. My grandmother's passing also taught me the importance of self-care and mental health. Going through such a significant loss was a deeply emotional and exhausting experience, and it made me realize that I needed to take care of myself both physically and mentally. I began prioritizing activities that brought me joy and peace, such as exercising, spending time with loved ones, and pursuing hobbies. I also made a point to seek out therapy, which helped me process my grief and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Through this process, I learned that taking care of myself is essential for not only my well-being but also my ability to contribute to causes I care about, such as promoting health equity.

Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Mathematics is a subject that can be a source of fear and anxiety for many students, but for me, it is something that I have always loved. One of the primary reasons for my love of math is my godmother, who is a math teacher. From a young age, she made math fun and easy to learn, breaking down complex concepts into simple terms and teaching me tricks and different problem-solving tools. Her approach to teaching inspired my love for math and made me realize that anyone can learn and enjoy the subject with the right guidance and support.
Math is a subject that is used everywhere, for anything. From calculating the number of ingredients needed for a recipe to estimating the time it takes to travel to a destination, math is an integral part of my everyday life. I find it fascinating that the same principles and concepts that I learn in math class can be applied to real-world situations, making it a subject that is not only useful but also relevant. Furthermore, math is a subject that challenges me to think critically and logically. It requires me to approach problems in a systematic and methodical way, breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts. This approach to problem-solving has helped me not only in my math classes but also in other subjects and in my everyday life. It has taught me to think critically and creatively, to be organized and disciplined, and to persevere through challenging tasks.
In conclusion, my love for math is rooted in my godmother's ability to make the subject fun and easy to learn, as well as in the subject's practical applications in everyday life. I appreciate how math challenges me to think critically and logically, providing me with valuable skills that are useful beyond the classroom. Through my love for math, I hope to inspire others to see the subject as more than just a set of rules and formulas but as a tool for solving problems and making sense of the world around us.
Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction Scholarship
Growing up in New York City as a first-generation college student with Haitian parents, my educational journey has been filled with both opportunities and challenges. Despite this, my parents have been an unwavering support system for my siblings and me, always emphasizing the importance of education and continuously working to learn a new language themselves. My passion for serving others led me to pursue a degree in public health. After working for several years in law firms, I realized that I wanted to broaden my contribution to the healthcare industry and focus on healthcare policy and management. This realization prompted me to enroll in a master's degree program in public health, where I could delve deeper into these areas and make a more significant impact in healthcare policy and management. Before starting my graduate studies. This experience helped me develop skills such as attention to detail and critical thinking, which have been essential in my work in public health. In addition to my academic pursuits, I am also actively involved in my community. I serve as a youth director and church secretary in my church, where I promote Christian social, emotional, and spiritual learning among the youth. Through this role, I have developed my leadership and interpersonal skills while making a positive impact on the lives of young people. Furthermore, I am committed to giving back to my community through volunteering. I have dedicated my time and skills to a local youth center, providing essential services to underserved community members. I have developed a strong sense of empathy and compassion, which has become an integral part of my approach to public health. As a first-generation graduate student, I faced many challenges, and one of the most significant was navigating the financial aspect of college. My parents' limited income meant that a lot of household bills fell on me, and I often struggled to make ends meet. Additionally, I have had to help pay for my father's medical and prescription bills, which has added to my financial responsibilities. The challenge of balancing school and work while managing my finances has been overwhelming at times. However, it has also taught me valuable lessons in budgeting, financial management, and resourcefulness. I have learned to prioritize my expenses and find creative ways to save money, such as cooking at home. These experiences have given me a greater appreciation for the value of money and hard work.
If I were to receive the money, I would use a portion of it to pay down my student loans. This would allow me to have more financial freedom and pursue other goals, such as investing in my future. Additionally, I would prioritize paying off all outstanding credit card debts and purchasing a new AC/heating unit for my parents' house, as they currently do not have central air and it can get extremely hot during the summer months and cold in the winter. I would also like to use some of the money to fund a trip to the museum for the youth center that I am involved with, as many of the youth we serve have never had the opportunity to experience these cultural attractions. By doing so, I would be able to make a positive impact on the youth that look up to me. While paying off my student loans has been a financial burden, I am grateful for the education and experiences that have led me to where I am today. The wines of the Scholarship will not only help me but will also help the others that I help guide.

Giving up alcohol was not easy, but it was a necessary step in improving my overall well-being. It helped me gain more control over my emotions and improved my sleep quality. Another lifestyle change I made was incorporating mindfulness practices, such as yoga and deep breathing exercises, into my daily routine. Perseverance to me means pushing passed life obstacles to reach my goals, I started working at a litigation law firm in 2015 as the office receptionist and moved my way up into the role of senior paralegal and office manager positions. Feeling this was one of my greatest life accomplishments after five years I found myself lacking drive and there were no growth opportunities available. After countless discussions with my boss, there was nothing more than pay raises that he could offer me. I needed more. I desired a better health benefits package and an opportunity that would not. During the pandemic, I suddenly found time to sit with myself and really evaluate what I wanted the next five years of my life to look like. I knew if I continued to work at the firm could not see myself supporting a family, getting better health benefits, and most importantly growing professionally and the answer was no. I knew I need to do more with my life. I needed to be in an environment that pushed for change that could provide a better life for myself and those around me. The pandemic shed light on the things I neglected within me. This was the push I need to go forward and apply for the graduate program at CUNY Public Health. Going back to school was one of the biggest steps I took in my life because I fought the idea for many years. Deep down I knew everything I’ve gone through in life was not by chance and everything happened for a reason. I know picking a school that focused on public health matters because while working full-time I volunteered in my church. I love community support work. All three positions work in connection with each other. I was able to teach the youth how to address public health issues within our community which provide them with another outlook on life. The risk management department taught me structure and organizational guidelines. The health department taught me how to reach out to community members and address their needs. This experience helped me to seek out jobs offering the same line of work. I came across many different public health organizations that all had one thing in common. They all required a master’s degree in public health. I started researching different schools and programs to see what the requirement was. I applied to 10 different schools in hopes of getting accepted. which school required an application fee, statement of purpose, and letter of recommendation. I submit complete application documents to all 10 schools and months later I started to receive rejection notices, either it was because of my undergraduate GPA, or because they claimed they reach their school capacity. I finally came across a school that provided certification programs that would bridge its students into the master's degree program once they complete it. I took the necessary steps to apply to CUNY School for Public Health. CUNY School for Public Health offers a master’s program in health policy and management. This degree will allow me to still use my legal background work experience and get educated on health policy and management still. I am motivated to complete the course and find a job that will best exercise my legal experience.

The challenges I face going back to school deal with my finances, managing my time, and getting into the habit of typing papers and reading textbooks amongst other personal matters. I'm currently in school to obtain an advanced certificate and master's degree in public health in health policy and management. I gave been out of school for over nine years during that time I gained a lot of responsibilities. Making the decision to go back to school is my way of addressing one of my life goals/ concerns of being financially successful. Going back to school has caused a huge stain on my finances because I also take care of my parents and the household bills as well as all of my personal bills. after completing my first semester of school my computer caught a virus and I am in desperate need of a computer because I am taking my classes completely online. Taking online classes gives me the flexibility to work full-time and do my school work. When I started school I received a promotion at work I was waiting for after years of hard work. but once I started school trying to manage my new position and being in school was extremely hard for me. After speaking to my professor and boss I was able to work out a schedule that would get me the opportunity to give enough time to my professional work and school work. As far as managing my finances. I had to take the time to really lay out a budget so I can see how much I was actually spending compared to how much money I was actually making and add in my school fees. After completing my budget I was able to find areas in my spending habits where I can save money and use it towards my school fees ad other household bills. Managing my time became a lot easier after I cut out a lot of my procrastination moments and outdoor activities. Currently, I am facing a lot of hardships with my finances because my tuition fee has increased and the inflation of everyday living is also high. My family shares a car that is used for laundry, grocery shopping, doctor visit, and so much more. The maintenance and upkeep of a car is something I had no idea could cost so much. After graduating with my master's degree I know I will be able to land a higher-paying job that provides financial security. I've learned the importance of investing and creating generational wealth so that the mistakes my parents made will not happen to me. This scholarship will make a great impact on my desire of being financially successful. I plan to use the knowledge I've gained about the importance of managing your time and money to help others who may be in a similar situation.

With this degree, I will be able to qualify for the employment positions this best fit my prior work experiences. For the past seven years, I worked in a litigation law firm that primarily dealt with insurance defense cases. After the last two years working at the firm, I notice there was a lack of drive a purpose in my position. I started at the law firm as a receptionist and after four years I was promoted to senior paralegal shortly after I received the office manager position. I learned all other in and outs of that particular legal field. I knew I have a passion for helping other so obtaining a master's degree in public health is what I need in order to work in the healthcare field. My goal is to obtain a position in the legal affairs department at one of the larger healthcare organizations in my city. I want to use the valuable legal skills I've learned to help develop new skills to help those in need. The healthcare system's goal is to provide the highest quality healthcare services to all with compassion, dignity, and respect, and regardless of immigration status or ability to pay. Working in the legal affairs department I will be able to assist with assure that the healthcare system's business affairs are carried out in compliance with ethical standards and existing laws and regulations, and in a way that avoids or mitigates unnecessary exposure to business and reputational risk. The master's degree program will prepare me to plan and manage public health programs in a variety of urban settings, analyze the impact of health and non-health policies on population health, and advocate for policies that promote the health of populations. The program emphasizes intersectoral approaches to policy and management in urban settings and the economic dimensions of health policy. I intend to advocate for policies that promote the health of populations. I know I am on the right take to obtaining my future goal. However, I need assistance with paying for my studies while I am on the path. This scholarship will make a big impact on my dreams of graduating with my master's degree and putting my passion into purpose.
Financial Literacy Importance Scholarship
It is important to manage my finances because I have a lot of responsibilities that require my finances to be stable. As an adult living in NYC, the cost I living is extremely high. I help my parents pay the mortgage and other utility bills. I also go grocery shopping for my family every two weeks. I currently have some personal debt that I am working on paying off. In addition to paying my school's tuition bill. With all of these monthly bills over my head is it important that I spean my money wisely and always back sure I have enough before I pay anything. In order to manage, my money wisely I created an excel budget sheet. I A budget helps me create financial stability. By tracking expenses and following a plan, a budget makes it easier to pay bills on time, build an emergency fund, and save for major expenses such as a car or home. Overall, a budget puts a person on a stronger financial footing for both the day-to-day and the long term. When done correctly, I can clearly see methods that can help me save money and understand where I spend it. However, that doesn’t mean that budgeting is easy and everything is favorable. I am a strong advocate for people creating a budget spreadsheet. I look at my budget weekly and monthly to check every single dollar I make and spend. I make it a point never to spend more than I can't pay back within two weeks. I wish I started budgeting back when I was in college and was introduced to credit cards. I probably would not be in the predicament I am in now. But now that know the benefits of creating a sticking to a budget plan I can allocate my money to all the things I need to stake care of. Unfortunately, I still don't have enough to pay off all my debt, and go going back to school is my plan to help fix that issue when I graduate with my Master's degree I will be able to qualify for higher-paying positions. I will I have what it takes to finish the course I just need additional financial support to pay for school and personal bills. getting a higher education will increase my career stability and satisfaction, and the ability to make an impact on your community. I currently work in the healthcare find and volunteer as a youth director in my church. I make it a point to always speak to the youth about how important is it to save and manage their money wisely and I use my situation as an example it is important to speak to the youth about finance for the same mistake does not repeat itself. With the help of this scholarship, I will be able to apply the award to my tuition bill and some toward getting myself a laptop because the lap time I have no longer works.
@normandiealise #GenWealth Scholarship
Generational wealth means living a life that has passive income based on all goals and business ventures. Having generational wealth provides a stable lifestyle for the children growing up in my family. Leaving them with a system of good work habits and businesses that will provide revenue to the family. To create generational wealth, a group of my first cousins got together and started an investment group. We set a goal to raise 100K within 5 years. Once we reach our goal well will begin investing. We all share the common goal to establish generational wealth. None of us have children yet, but we know within the next 5 years a lot can happen. We want to create a financial system to help pay for things that our parents could not take care of for us. Having a legacy that promotes our family name is our goal. We are all educated black scholars. We each have a different educational background. We all event to college and motivated each other when we felt like we couldn't make it. I am one of the few individuals within the group who is working on getting a master's degree. When I graduate with my master's degree I will qualify for a better-paying job and will be able to contribute more towards the family investment group and personal debts. I have dealt with a lot of financial hardships because I am the primary provider for my parents. My parents have reached the age of forceful retirement and did not plan efficiently on having a steady out-of-work income. Now that I am in a position to help I want to do everything I can to not continue with their financial mistakes. I plan on completing an advanced certificate in Fall 2023 and graduating with my master's degree in public health to qualify for top-paying positions at my job. When I was hired, HR informed me that I didn't qualify for top pay because I did not have a master's degree. When I complete both my certificate and degree I want to show them that have what it takes to go above and beyond what they need for the position. I live in NY where the cost of living is extremely high. gaining a position to provide for my family and myself is one of my life-long goals and with the help of this scholarship I will be on the right track to do so.

Having friends is a vauleable relationship to have and one of the most important things that I've learned growing up that you MUST choose your friends wisely. Having the right friends is a perfect way to network. Having there support when you are going to through hard time, neeed advise and sometimes just need someone to vent to. The friends I have now are more than just friends I consider them apart of my family.During Covid I lost alot of family member and i didn't know how to deal with the losses becuase is felt like it was one day right after another. My friends were my strong support system they always called to check up on me and something just came over and brought food. They also brought games to help my get out of the sad depressive state that i was in. I met two of my friends during my high school days. I started playing volleyball in highschool. My friends were always so supportive and made a point to be at all of my games as possible. My coach allowed them to assist the team becuase they weren't really good player. Being on a volleyball team taugh me disiple and see who progress works when you really put your mind to something. When iI first started playing volleyball I was never able to serve over hand. With the help of my coach and teammates I was able to learn quick and easy techniques to score points when serving. Growing up I was always the talles girl in class. When i starting playing volleyball I gained a lot of confidence in being comfortable in skin and with my 5'11 height. Volleyball gain me skill sets I still use today. Teambuiling skill, trusting the people who are on your side really having you back and so much more. I love volleyball and so happy I was introduced to is at a young age. I still like to drive with my volleyball and net in my car just in case someone wants to play or i find myself at a park. Volleyball taugh me how to speak up for myself in times when someone has done me wrong. Volleyball builds character for success and I am a strong advocate for teens joining a team when they have the chance to. During the summer months i like to join city teams to keep my body in shape. Volleyball keeps me heathy by making sure I keep active so I can JUMP SERVE SPIKE!

Pursuing a graduate study degree is important to me at this point in my life because I found myself very stagnant and lacking ambition and purpose in my career. Before I got the Job with H+H I work at an insurance defense firm. This was my second law firm work experience after I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in law and Paralegal studies. I started working at the firm in 2015 as the office receptionist and moved my way up into the role of senior paralegal and office manager positions. Feeling this was one of my greatest life accomplishments after a couple of years I found myself lacking drive and there were no growth opportunities available. After countless discussions with my boss, there was nothing more than pay raises that he could offer me. I needed more. I desired a better health benefits package and an opportunity that would not. During the pandemic, I suddenly found time to sit with myself and really evaluate what I wanted the next five years of my life to look like. Figure out if continuing to work at the firm could I see me supporting a family, getting better health benefits, and most importantly growing professionally and the answer was no. As an active member for many years, it was inevitable I was given the task of being part of three of the most important departments within the church. Between 2017 -2019 I took on the position of youth director, assistant director of the risk management department, and secretary for the health department. When I was nominated for the positions, I thought the church leaders were crazy for assigning me to all these departments. What I didn’t know but later realized was that they saw something in me that I didn’t. They saw I passionate I was when someone needed help. I invest I became with I was given a task. Working in these departments allowed me to see my true potential. I love community support work. All three positions work in connection with each other. I was able to teach the youth how to address public health issues within our community which provide them with another outlook on life. The risk management department taught me structure and organizational guidelines. The health department taught me how to reach out community member and address their needs. This experience helped me to seek out jobs offered the same line of work. I came across many different public health organizations that all had one thing in common. They all required a master’s degree in public health. part about it I was still able to use the legal tools and skills I gain to used. I took the necessary steps and applied to CUNY School for Public Health.

My Goal is to complete an advanced certificate and master’s degree in health policy and management at CUN CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy. I worked in a law firm for many years and although it appeared to be a great career path for me, after seven years of working I found myself lacking purpose. I knew I did not want to be an attorney and knew I need to branch myself into another sector to find my capabilities. While working at the firm I saw firsthand what the quality of life would be in order to become a successful attorney. The family dynamic I hoped to create would be unrealistic given the job demand. As time went on the cost of living became more and more expensive and my job refused to provide a better insurance plan as I am a black woman in America, so I don’t have the leisure of being naive about my health. I am currently the youth director at my church. My job is to create programs to educate the youth by creating programs that enforce social, emotional, and Christian learning. While in this position I develop an interest in public health and found purpose. The obstacle you faced in your life while in this position is not able to connect this to the proper organization to help elevate them and find a career path. My current job cannot financially support my everyday life while I support my parents during this hard economic as inflation continues to increase and the cost of healthcare services rises. Being able to support my parents while going to school and working full time has its hardships but know my willingness to push through will prevail. Pursuing my degree will provide me with the education and network resources to accomplish my dream of finding my purpose and working in a field that will benefit me and all those who are influenced by me. I hope to learn new concepts, refine the knowledge I have, and be a part of a system that will positively impact my community.
