    Zendaya Superfan Scholarship
It is very difficult to choose one aspect of her astounding career, given how talented she is. However, I would say the most impressive aspect of her fame is in the way she carries herself, specifically in a male-dominated field. Her grace, ambition, and humility has always been one of the reasons why I look up to her so much. I have admired her ever since I was a little girl watching her on Disney Channel, and now as a young woman it is even clearer to me why she has always served as such an inspirational role model. In the media, she holds herself to a degree that is profoundly down-to-earth, confident, and gracious. Her responses to questions that are blatantly sexist are precise and cool, and I admire her immensely for that. She isn't afraid to challenge people who treat her differently than her male counterparts- yet she challenges them in a way that isn't disgraceful or rude, but instead distinguished. She has navigated her career in a way that is incredibly stunning, all while growing up in the public eye (which certainly cannot be easy). I admire Zendaya for her talent, but above all for her womanhood. I am proud to see her on the big screen, paving the way for young women and girls all around the world. I am eternally grateful to have role models such as her to look up to, and I can't wait to see what the rest of her career brings.

Ever since I was young, writing has been my escape, my sanctuary. It allows me to release all of my inhibitions and let go of reality. I crave the challenge of pushing my creative boundaries through words and syntax, devising unique ways to say even the most simplistic of things. To write is to tell a story, to make others feel something. I didn't always want to be a writer, but as I've grown older I've realized that writing is what keeps me sane. It is the only thing I genuinely want to pursue for the rest of my life. The field of writing is incredibly intimidating, but it's a sacrifice that is worth the risk to me. I want to write something with meaning, that makes people laugh and cry and shakes them to their core. I want to write something relatable and witty and whimsical. There are so many possibilities when you have a pen and paper, they are limitless. Writing is arguably the only time you have complete control over the narrative. The world is in your hands, you decide what happens. The first "book" I wrote was in second grade, it was a biography about my late YiaYia. I wrote it before she died, unfurling her inspiring story of coming to America as a young woman and an immigrant, with so many things unknown. We had a program at my school where you could get your stories bound and laminated, and I was ecstatic to hold such an amazing woman's story in my hands. Years later, I revisited that story as a sixth grader. We had to write either an autobiography or a biography in English class, and I knew immediately that I wanted to write about my YiaYia. One of my last memories with her was when we went to Starbucks so I could interview her about the challenges she faced as a young immigrant. I remember being so worried that I wouldn't do justice to her life. A few months later, she passed away, and my paper was displayed for people to read at her funeral. I had people I didn't even know approach me with tears in their eyes, saying that my work was amazing and that I told my YiaYia's story beautifully. That was the first time I realized that my words could mean something to someone other than me. Ever since I found my passion for writing, I haven't been able to put my pen down. Whether it's journaling, exploring the beauty of poetry, or writing an argumentative paper about a subject I'm passionate about, I am constantly looking to improve my craft as a writer. Even if I don't find success as a writer, I will always continue to create with words. If I can reach even one person through my writing, that will be enough. Even if that person is only me.
