Hello, My name is Natalia Valderrama. I am currently a senior in High School. I have been born and raised in Iowa. My mother immigrated from Kraków, Poland when she was 11 years old and my father immigrated from Lima,Peru when he was 3 years old. Neither of them attended college full time but I would like to be the first. I would like to be a first generation college graduate in my family. My family raised me in a beautiful home giving me and my brother all the resources that they didn't have growing up, I am truly blessed. I would like to thank them and show them that I will live up to there hope and dreams by attending college. I hope to attend a 4 year college majoring in some type off business study to follow the steps of my parents. Thank you!

I want to pursue a career in a business-related field because I grew up in a business family. My father grew up in Peru and moved to Des Monies, Iowa when he was 3 years old he had 11 siblings and he grew up with a single mother in a low-income family. My father worked hard to make sure my brother and I never had to live the way he did when he grew up. My father was an entrepreneur and always told me to fight for what I wanted in life, my father grew many businesses before he passed in 2017 from a heart issue. My father would have wanted me to pursue a business career, he would tell me that I had the business eye. I wouldn't trade the days I worked with my dad for the world, he taught me to never give up on anything I did and to fight for what I want in life. I want to go to a 4-year university and pursue a degree in Business because I want to follow in my father's footsteps and fight for what I want in life. My life was hard after having my father pass but it made me grow up, I knew I had to be strong for my younger brother and my mom.
When I see the word success I see being in a career where you enjoy it so much you don't see it as work anymore, you're just doing something you love. I hope one day I can feel what success feels like, where working doesn't feel like work anymore. I want to have a successful career being a woman in the business industry, I would love to be a business analytics person for a company that holds the same values I have or to follow in my father's footsteps and be an entrepreneur and create a business. Which I know neither is easy but I have big goals in my life that I want to pursue and determined I will meet them.
I enjoy giving back to the community, I have been a part of my school's community service program for all 4 years. I have completed over 200 hours of community service around my community. My school's community service program (Silver Cord) is voluntary, no one requires you to be a part of it, and it's all student choice. I have loved being a part of a community service program in high school. Some of my favorite organizations that I have worked with over the 4 years were Meals of the Heartland, Children's Cancer Connections, AHeinz57 Animal Rescue, and our local church bible camp every summer. Even through COVID, I volunteered through at-home activities for local places just so I could still keep giving back to my community through that devastating time. I wouldn't have traded these 4 years volunteering for my community for the world, I have learned it's important to give back and to keep giving back even after high school ends.
Thank you so much for reading my essay I hope you consider me for this scholarship and how much it would mean to me to be considered.
