An exploding cake, a green dog, and a failed taxicab business run by kids have made a significant impact on my life and taught me resilience. What I am referring to is a movie called “The Little Rascals Save the Day", a movie that brought me excitement every day as I came back from school. I would run to the couch and quickly pop the DVD into the disk, excited to see characters such as Darla, Alfalfa, and Buckwheat. Every time I watched this movie, I was amazed at the characters’ determination to help save their neighborhood bakery, through volunteering and trying every job they could manage to help the owner achieve her goal. Whether it be through trying to prepare a cake for a customer and failing, running a pet cleaning service and failing, or creating a makeshift taxi service that ended up getting sabotaged, these kids never gave up and continued to find a way to save the bakery. Overall, their resilience, even throughout their numerous failures, had rewarded them with achieving their goal in the end. I have watched many movies about trying even if you fail, but this movie related to me personally because these kids were of similar age to me and made me believe that if they could achieve all these amazing feats that I would be able to as well. The impact this movie had on me has continued to influence me to try again, even after I fail at achieving a goal I set, getting back up and taking an innovative approach. Whether it be not reaching an academic goal, not getting into the orchestra group I wanted to at first, or just going through a tough time, I did not give up and instead used those failures as motivation to keep going and continue to achieve those goals. As a result, I was able to achieve my academic goals, earned my place in my school’s non-varsity Camerata orchestra, and lifted myself even during those challenging times. The Little Rascals' resilience through failure motivated me and has taught me to realize that failure is not an invitation to give up, but to instead take initiative and continue trying your best to succeed in your goals; finding a new way to make them become a reality, even if the odds may be against you. I plan to use this resilience to continue trying and further my education, as well as continue to try and improve the field of pediatrics for multiple children in my community.
