“Who am I?” When confronted with a broad and open-ended question like "describe yourself," I find myself embarking on a reflective journey. I acknowledge the complexity of this question, as it prompts me to condense who I am at a given moment, yet I am ever evolving with each new life experience. To be candid, I don't believe I can fully answer this question because my passion lies in a continual pursuit of personal growth. At my core, I'm anchored in values instilled by my parents and loved ones. I believe in treating people as I wish to be treated and hold dear the principles of integrity, honesty, respect, and kindness. Growing up in a nurturing two-parent household has been a privilege that made me feel safe, loved, and protected. Nonetheless, I am still discovering who I am. I'm the middle child with two brothers, making me the only girl in my immediate family. Contrary to the "middle child syndrome," my experience has been unique. I've had the opportunity to share my life with my remarkable older brother, who happens to have special needs. My eldest brother, three and a half years my senior, is intellectually disabled. This family dynamic propelled me into an elder role early on. This experience has been the most significant influence in shaping my self-definition, and it continues to evolve. As for my hobbies and interests, I enjoy writing creative stories and spending quality time with family and friends.

    When asked such a vague yet all-encompassing question such as “describe yourself’, I can honestly admit that I find myself spiraling down a path because I know who I am but recognize that as I begin to increase my lived experiences, I would only be explaining the person I am at a point in time. In being truthful, I don’t believe I would ever be able to fully answer that question because of my passion to seek continued growth. I believe intrinsically that I know the core traits of who I am. I believe I know the foundational skills taught to me by my parents and loved ones. I know that I’m grounded in beliefs that I should treat people in the way in which I want to be treated. I know that I value the core ideals of integrity, honesty, respect, and kindness. I know that I have the privilege of growing up in a stable two-parent household where I feel safe, loved and protected. Yet, despite all of that, I’m still learning who I am. I have two siblings of which, I’m the middle child. I have two brothers so that makes me the only girl in my immediate family. Despite being a middle child, I’ve never experienced the dreaded “middle child” syndrome treatment. My story has been different because I’ve gotten to share, grow and learn from my amazing older brother who happens to have special needs. My eldest brother is intellectually disabled, but, that label does not define him, he’s so much more. My parents always instilled in both my siblings and I that we are each other’s “keeper” and that we are all in some way different, and not to confuse that with being deficient. This family dynamic allowed me to step into the elder role very early on. I learned at an early age how to be independent, responsible, reliable, and grounded. This familial experience is what I believe has had the most profound impact on how I define myself up to this point. It’s ever evolving. As a dedicated sister, I’ve also learned the value of empathy, patience, commitment, and advocacy. I’ve learned to balance the demands of school while providing support at home and as a result, I’ve learned to hone my time management and leadership skills while maintaining a nurturing and compassionate heart that seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me. It is because of my lived experience I’ve come to understand the significance of inclusion and the impact it can have on shaping lives. To my community, I have particpated in multiple easter events, babysitting, food drives, clothes drives, etc. I love putting a smile on other faces and appreciate everything I get. As a high school senior, understanding that “different” does not mean deficient is a source of strength for me. It has empowered me to rise above social and academic challenges and exceed expectations.     Dealing with moments of social anxiety as part of my mental health experience has both academic and personal implications during my time at school. While I value and often recharge through solitary activities, there are instances where it may impact my academic performance. There are moments when I feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of people surrounding me. The intensity of social interactions can become challenging, leading to a sense of being overwhelmed. During these times, I find it necessary to take a step back, seeking moments of solitude to recharge and regain a sense of balance. Recognizing and addressing these feelings allows me to navigate social environments more comfortably and maintain a healthier mental state. Failing to acknowledge these overwhelming feelings often leads me into moments of introversion. When confronted with a barrage of emotions that I find challenging to process, I instinctively retreat into the comfort of my own "shell." In this introspective space, I seek solace, distancing myself from external stimuli and social interactions. This retreat is a coping mechanism that allows me the time and mental space to grapple with the intensity of my emotions. During these moments of introversion, one of the noticeable shifts in my behavior is a deliberate withdrawal from verbal communication. I find myself compelled to stop talking, choosing silence as a shield against the external pressures that contribute to my feelings of being overwhelmed. The act of closing myself off from conversation becomes a means of self-preservation, granting me the opportunity to recalibrate and regain a sense of emotional equilibrium. While this inclination toward introversion serves its purpose in the short term, I recognize the importance of later addressing and processing these emotions to foster a healthier and more sustainable approach to navigating challenging situations. Introverted periods can lead to a preference for independent study, but it's essential to strike a balance, as collaborative learning and group projects are integral aspects of many academic environments.     Black Leaders Scholarship
    As a high school student, I've encountered various black leaders in history, each leaving a distinct impact on my daily life. However, one figure stands out prominently – Sojourner Truth. During my 11th-grade year, I was assigned to read one of her poems, "Ain't I a Woman?" Since then, I've found continuous inspiration from her remarkable story and powerful words .Her life story is a testament to resilience, courage, and unwavering advocacy for justice. Born into slavery, she overcame unimaginable hardships and emerged as a leading figure who championed the causes of equality and human dignity. Sojourner Truth became renowned for her powerful oratory skills. She was illiterate but possessed an extraordinary ability to speak with eloquence and conviction. Her speeches captivated audiences and highlighted the interconnected struggles of abolition and women's rights. In 1851, she delivered her famous "Ain't I a Woman?" speech at the Ohio Women's Rights Convention. In this speech, she challenged prevailing notions of racial and gender inferiority, asserting the strength and capability of black women. One of my favorite poems of hers. I want to encourge black women to go beyond the limits. To prove what is assumed wrong. Truth's speeches were not only persuasive but also deeply personal. She often drew on her experiences as a slave to illustrate the cruelties of the institution and to advocate for the humanity and rights of all people. Her ability to connect with diverse audiences, including those who might have been initially unsympathetic to her causes, made her a formidable advocate.     My go-to game for co-op mode is definitely 'One-Two Switch.' This game holds a special spot in my heart because it never fails to bring immense joy to my family and friends whenever we play. The endless variety of mini-games makes for an extremely fun time. Whether we're playing on the hardest or easiest mode, we have yet to conquer the hardest level, adding to the challenge and excitement. It's always the first game I pack when heading out because 'One-Two Switch' is such an easy-to-understand game that's accessible for people of all ages. We either play on the hardest or easiest mode, and we have yet to beat the hardest level. One of my most memorable moments has to be on New Year's Eve. We had just received the Switch for Christmas and were still getting the basics of the console. We decided to play 'One-Two Switch' because it was a game we could all enjoy, and it explained the rules as the game progressed. We split into teams, kids versus adults, and almost played every mini-game because we couldn't get enough of the fun and excitement it brought to our celebration.     October 22, 2019, altered my life – my Mema, the family’s matriarch, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Her courageous fight, detailed in a published article, ended on February 9, 2022. Life’s uncertainty hit hard and was a reminder to value each moment. Sitting frontline to endure my mother’s grief while simultaneously experiencing the loss myself, has taught me that the people you love never leave you and the loss doesn’t either, but it’s important to endure. In those quiet moments when it's just me and my thoughts, I can't help but ask, "Why?" Why did this happen to us? How did life go from “normal” to a total mess? Why isn't she here anymore? Why hasn’t my mother emptied out my Mema’s room yet? Wearing her perfumes reminds me of her presence. Is that normal? Some questions I realize I’ll never get the answers to and I’m learning to be okay with this. Even now, I haven’t been able to make it to Mema’s burial site. There’s this weird mix of wanting to be close to her, even if it’s just where she rests, and this fear that seeing the spot will make it all too real. I know I’ll get there eventually. I owe it to her and myself to have that moment, to say whatever I need to help me transition along this next journey. Her loss has helped me refocus my priorities and emphasized the importance of meaningful connections. Life is short, and we never know what's around the corner. From the first lines of code I clumsily typed into a computer to the countless hours spent unraveling the mysteries of algorithms, each step on this journey has fueled my passion for understanding the inner workings of the digital realm. My father, who is an IT director, is also a catalyst for pursuing a degree in computer science. Watching him work and incorporating me into some of his projects, made me fall in love with computer science. What excites me the most is the opportunities to network along the way. Making connections with my peers and building long term relationships. I also wanna serve as a figure to inspire younger generations to join the computer science field. I am not merely embracing a career; I am embarking on a journey of endless possibilities—a journey where every line of code is a brushstroke, painting the canvas of the future.

The hate you give discusses several themes providing both a way to inform and entertain readers. The themes of relevance to contemporary issues, empathy and undertsanding, and promotion of activism. The theme of relevance to contemporary issues adresss racism, police brutality, and systemic injustice, offering a lens through which readers can explore and better understand the pressing issues facing society today. Its relevance to current events fosters important conversations and encourages readers to critically examine the world around them. The theme of empathy and undertsanding provides a perspective that may be unfamiliar to some readers, fostering empathy and understanding.     Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
    October 22, 2019, altered my life – my Mema, the family’s matriarch, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Her courageous fight, detailed in a published article, ended on February 9, 2022. Life’s uncertainty hit hard and was a reminder to value each moment. Sitting frontline to endure my mother’s grief while simultaneously experiencing the loss myself, has taught me that the people you love never leave you and the loss doesn’t either, but it’s important to endure. In those quiet moments when it's just me and my thoughts, I can't help but ask, "Why?" Why did this happen to us? How did life go from “normal” to a total mess? Why isn't she here anymore? Why hasn’t my mother emptied my Mema’s room yet? Wearing her perfumes reminds me of her presence. Is that normal? Some questions I realize I’ll never get the answers to and I’m learning to be okay with this. Even now, I haven’t been able to make it to Mema’s burial site. There’s this weird mix of wanting to be close to her, even if it’s just where she rests, and this fear that seeing the spot will make it all too real. I know I’ll get there eventually. I owe it to her and myself to have that moment, to say whatever I need to help me transition along this next journey. Her loss has helped me refocus my priorities and emphasized the importance of meaningful connections. Life is short, and we never know what's around the corner. That's why it's vital to build strong bonds, to express love openly, and to create a network of support. As I prepare for the next phase of my life, I’m reminded that Mema’s legacy guides me to live intentionally, with passion, and to “FIGHT” for what truly matters. This scholarship is an investment in that journey – a chance to obtain a degree in computer science and to contribute in the advancement of technology to help science in a meaningful way.

    As a Black high school female, my unique identity and experiences have played a pivotal role in shaping my desire to pursue a STEM degree. Being underrepresented in the STEM fields, my journey is not only about personal passion but also about breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes. Growing up, I have often observed the lack of diversity in STEM classrooms and professions. This reality has fueled my determination to contribute to a shift in the narrative and to demonstrate that women of color, like myself, can excel and lead in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. My experiences have also made me acutely aware of the disparities in educational opportunities, mentorship, and resources. This awareness motivates me to not only pursue a STEM degree for my growth but also to actively engage in initiatives that promote inclusivity and close the gaps that exist. The motivation behind this initiative is not only to safeguard sensitive information within our educational network but also to cultivate a secure and conducive learning environment for all students. my goal is to fortify the digital resilience of our school district, ensuring that students and educators can focus on learning without the constant threat of malicious cyber activities disrupting the educational process. This financial support would alleviate the burden of educational expenses, providing me with the freedom to pursue higher education without the constraints of looming student debt.
