Mathematics is what makes the world tick. Everything we see and touch has a mathematical component to it. I have always enjoyed Mathematics and in many ways, it has been easy for me. However, I love to be challenged and excel at new concepts and ideas. I am excited about going to college in order to be challenged to learn and grow. My goals in the future are primarily in government work (i.e. CIA, NASA, NSA, etc.). I hope to use my skills and growth to better aid the lives of others!
One of the most engaging things about mathematics is the ability to collaborate with others. I have had first-hand experience in the classroom helping others learn how to grasp challenging concepts and algebraic problems. It has also been an honor to aid the teachers at times, so as to help others better understand the importance of Mathematics in one's life.
I am pragmatic and stoic. I see the potential to succeed in my passions and not get distracted easily by the mundane things in life. I know what I want and I will not settle for less. My goal is to excel at the highest levels to grow personally and help others in this world.

My hope one day is to solve at least one of the "unsolvable" problems and win an award for doing so. Problems such as the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, Hodge conjecture, Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness, P versus NP, Riemann hypothesis., and the Yang–Mills existence and mass gap are just some of the problems I hope to research and apply my self to solving. It would be a wonderful achievement to win the Fields Medal, Nobel Prize, or Abel Prize in Mathematics. I am confident and hopeful that one day I will achieve these great feats.
There are many in the world who have had great success in Mathematics, and there are many who have missed out on opportunities to understand and grow in the field. I know that with a scholarship to pursue my passion in Mathematics, I can see my dream achieved. Without great scholarships to aid those pursuing their passions, it becomes harder to focus on what one loves, especially when burdened financially.

Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
Golf is a life lived in 4 challenging yet rewarding hours.
No game on this planet gives you more reasons to learn about yourself than golf. It pushes you beyond reason and brings you to the brink of insanity, only to do it all over again the next day. Is it that one-shot that brings you back? The thought of doing better next time? Or, is it the desire to excel at something greater, something that seems only attainable for the elite?
Golf has helped me strive to succeed. To push the envelope of self-determination. To just achieve a better score. NO! to know that your limits can be pushed as you challenge yourself daily to achieve your potential and then push past it. The score on the card is the line in the sand that you try to cross each day, knowing there is no limit to success; there is always something greater, more rewarding, and more to be learned.
This is life. Pushing one's limits to see the beauty and design of all that is around us. Then challenge it and see if you can't overcome the hazards and bad-lies in life. It is just you alone, and you have to overcome what lie you've been dealt. But it does not mean you cannot see the beauty that is before you.
My goal is to Double Major in Mathematics and Computer Science, then go on to get a Ph.D. in these fields. My hope is to work for the CIA, NSA, or NASA one day. To achieve this kind of success, I need to have the right set of tools in my bag to overcome the worst of lies. However, I also need the experience and practice on how to best use those tools, so I know how to overcome the obstacles that stand in my way. There will be times I am in a divot or buried under the lip of a sand trap, and it will be how I approach my situation. Not with disgust or disdain but with reverence for what has been handed to me. It is an opportunity to be creative and discover new ways to push through the most difficult of obstacles.
This is what the beautiful game of golf has taught me. Not to give up, not to just say, "this sucks," but to overcome and seek new ways and push through. We know life is not easy, but if everyone learned to play golf, then they would learn how to deal more effectively with adversity!
