FinalistBio
My name is Gabrielle, and I am deeply passionate about politics, my education, writing, and reading. Writing has played a pivotal role in my journey towards becoming a Political Journalist, allowing me to jump headfirst into the sea of politics and promote unbiased, ethical journalism. While I've enjoyed growing up in a small town in Arizona, I have recently relocated to Washington, DC to seek out and take advantage of new opportunities as I study Government and International Politics at George Mason University. One of my long-term career goals is to join the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
While shadowing Sabrina Rodriguez at the Washington Post for my senior project, we bonded effortlessly because of our small-town Hispanic backgrounds. Sabrina’s pride in being a strong, successful Hispanic woman was one of the main influences that convinced me to decide on a career in Journalism during college. With her help, I created the Transparent News Project: a media literacy campaign that has reached over 3,000 people and aims to combat fake news, rebuild trust in journalism, and promote media literacy. As part of the project, I created Latin Voices: interviews with Latina journalists to inspire Latina students at my high school to pursue their dreams in underrepresented fields.
